Definitely not just you. I'm really anxious about this and I'm sure I'll fail miserably during my first playthrough. It just sounds so... Hard? And yes, complicated. I fear I'll be doing a lot of re-loading saves, which they said they didn't want people to have to do, but, yeah. I'm so not into hard combat.

I've gotten in the habit of buying the strategy guides w/ Bioware games (ME3 and DA2) it helps a boat load (plus the DA2 one looks wicked) I wish I would have had one w/ Origins, but by the time I thought of getting it I had already done 2+ playthroughs  So long as I avoid the temptation to flip ahead and read spoilers, it works out really well!

Yeah sorry. Can't type. Dorian.

I've actually got a fem!Amell kicking around in my head, but I'm reluctant to play her because she'd go for Al, spare Loghain and get Al killed. Someday I will figure out the magic RP combo.

Hmm, when I romance Al, I kill Loghain, sometimes I harden Al, and I do the DR...everytime. lol! And we run off to be wardens together.

I'm Reaaallly hoping that emotion/tone/dialogue wheel thing they're doing in DAI will give a more appropriate option---for me. I mean, if you're RPing the kinda woman that is as blunt abt her romantic life as FemShep was--at least in initial dialogue--she could get better after you cringed thru the first couple of opening lines-- then that's great. But it kinda breaks the spell if I'm cringing behind the controller.

Ironically, the romance lines between M!Shep and Kaidan in ME3 were pretty shy and tender LOL

In DA2, I think the romance lines were the same regardless of gender. I think it should've been based on personality... a diplomatic Hawke (regardless of gender... cause gender has nothing to do with how a person flirts) maybe has more gentle and considerate flirts. Sarcastic Hawke is blunt and kind of crude lol and so on.

Hopefully we will not get just the one flirt line again, no matter our quizzy's personality.

Hey all *waves*

It's been awhile but I have been checking this thread every day.. thanks for all the laughs!

So I solved the problem I had with my mother rolling her eyes at me whenever I gushed about DA/DA2.... I got her playing it lol

She is working on every origin in DA right through to a complete DA2 playthrough for each.

A few things I noticed about her pt's though...

1. She never romances Alistair, can't stand him actually heh

2. Loghain always survives the Landsmeet, sometimes gets killed on the Archdemon.

3. She always has Anora and Ali rules together, she just loves Anora.

4. Anders always gets the murder knife.

5. She has a thing for Fenris, except the one male playthrough where she romanced Isabella.

She doesn't roll her eyes anymore. She instead spends her days (and half the night) playing and raving on about DA's like I haven't played them a few hundred times myself haha Its pretty awesome to be honest. Oh, and she is really excited about Cullen being in DA:I, though she scared me a little while we were talking the other day - we agreed on this though...

The best way for Bioware to make (some, at least the ones in this thread) female gamers play male characters = make Cullen a m/m romance only. She's right, I'd only play guys.

(Please note... I hope that didn't cause offence, wasn't meant to belittle anyone that wants that)

I love this story abt your Mom. This is how it happens. She's a Renegade ain't she? lol! Although, tbh, I play male characters enough in most other games so I like it when I have the chance to play a female lead.

Is it weird tho having your mom be excited abt Cullen?

Diplomatic Hawke seems quite happy in a chaste marriage by Legacy. And I RP'd her as a devout Andrastian. I liked that his faith was more important than Hawke. Though I'll agree with you on Hawke's come-ons being dreadful. One of my big fears is actually that the marriage will be retconned or otherwise made irrelevent. I liked having a Chantry brother husband.

I always roll Snarky Hawkes, so I'll take your word since I've not done a diplomatic romance with Sebastian yet. I know that Bethany is obviously jealous if she's alive, but given that Sebastian was eye-humping her right back, you have to wonder why he rarely gives that sort of attention to Hawke?

And to answer the question from several pages back, that's my greatest fear for Cullen. That we'll end up in a Sebastian-esque romance which seemed rather short and limited compared to the others. I like Seb and his voice actor is great, but like most of the DLC companions, he ended up being rather under-developed imo.

And since everyone's going DHMG crazy, has it been confirmed yet whether he's actually from Tevinter? I've been wondering how our Dalish Inquisitor is going to react to him if he is? It always bugged me in Origins that our Dalish Warden couldn't flip out about the Tevinters and slap the City Elves upside the heads for being so blind to their own history that they had no idea they were dealing with the people who had enslaved them.

I'm not one of them--well abt the gender thing--just cuz it doesn't Feel the same for me. Like if I wanna romance Dorian, but he ends up being male only--me just rolling a dude to be w/him is not the same for me. Idk why, but it just doesn't quite hit the spot for me.

I'm the same way, except it's more reliant upon who I want that character to romance. Generally I feel more comfortable playing a guy, but I like playing as a woman sometimes, too. But if the person I want to romance can only be romanced by a guy, and I want to romance her with a woman (or vice versa, obviously, as may be the case with Cullen) then I just can't do it. Like I don't see myself ever having experienced the Isabela romance or the Fenris romance if they were both straight. Anders, I could've romanced with a woman.

So far for me I'm seeing...

Cullen -- guy

Sera -- guy or girl

Warden -- guy

Cass -- guy or girl

Yeah I'm coming around to romancing Cass; could be cute!

Were they? I think FemShep didn't get too weird w/Kaidan--iirc. FemShep in ME1 w/regards to LI seemed more down to earth and real. Regular convo that just built up to romantic content. She became a bit weirder in ME2.

As for DAI, I like that they're not doing the dominant tone thing cuz every situation does not call for the same attitude. Like I don't wanna be a b!tch to Isabela just cuz I was yelling at a bunch of bandits for an hour. lol!

So that's good news. To be able to pick your tone/emotion/dialogue according to the situation. And hopefully that will extend to the Romances! and give me more than one "let's do it! Let's do it NAOW! Rawr.." line to show my interest in a character.

My daughter doesn't, although we used to game together a lot before she got older and left home and stuff. She was the one that bought DA:O UE for me for a combo Mother's Day/Birthday gift. Best money she ever spent she tells me, since I'm still playing it from time to time. (And that was 3 years ago!)  ^_^

Same. I used to be very meh about romancing her, even with knowing Gaider was writing her. She was just...second best when Vivienne was dangling there, all ridiculously beautiful, sassy and passive aggressively perfect. But knowing she holds a knife to our throats has really sweetened the deal, (don't judge). I just hope to god she's not straight. Would I still rather go for the Viv? Definitely, but Cassandra is no longer just second best.

LOL I know what you mean. Overall, I'm in favor of the dominant tones and I'll miss them, but I agree 100% that it made role-playing difficult at times.

I'm not at all pessimistic about how DA:I will handle it though; I think third time's a charm, and they'll get our dialogue just perfect, finally.

LOL!!! Not gonna lie, but that scene is what made me reconsider, too!! I'd probably go human or dwarven female with her, possibly human male. Or she could be my qunari girl's romance!!

I'm remaining super pessimistic so it's not too painful if the worst is revealed. And if he IS revealed as bi, I'll probably start crying :)

I also hope Cass is bi, partially because so many people want to romance her... similar situation with Cullen.

"The Inquisition has three major facets, and each of those facets is led by a particular character," Lee says. "Each one of those facets essentially has its own talent tree, and through them you can unlock various benefits for you and the Inquisition." -- GameInformer June 2014 preview

Talent tree to unlock benefits for the Inquisitor, huh?  Honestly, this is all I can think of...

Military Cullen Talent Tree:

-- Stealthy Flirting: So subtle and awkward that you may not know he was flirting til it was too late.

-- Liquid Courage: Overcome fears of intimacy and fraternization within the Inquisition ranks.

-- Love of the Maker: Cullen sings and suddenly everyone's kissing everyone.

-- Cook's Night Off: Romantic candlelit dinner, so long as it's not also your turn to cook.

-- Templar Business: *fade to black*unless you've installed Sleep Until Dawn*

-- I Told You So: Automatic, 'get out of the doghouse free' card. Good for only one argument.

Glad I'm not a total weirdo!

If I do go for her it'll be with my human female.

Now I have a funny image of her having to crouch down to get the angle right for the dwarf Inquisitor in the sword scene! And on her tippy toes for the qunari! Ah, the ever continuing funniness from height differences.

I will be really disappointed if Cassandra is not bisexual. Unless of course Vivienne's available. But it's doubtful. (Damn you Scribbles, (unless you're Antivan then in which case get in my bed now))

But if I had to bet money on two sexualities, it'd be Cassandra is straight and DHMG is gay. Cullen's still up in the air as far as I'm concerned, being an NPC romance. I used to think he was straight and Scribbles was gay, but then I realised that that makes the two female exclusive romances would be NPCs. And that's not really fair.

Nah, not weird at all. She is seriously swooning over the guy that does the VO for Fenris  lol She just had her 61st birthday, she's been playing my copies so I decided on getting her the two games for herself as a late b-day present.

I don't know if this happens to anyone else - I'm playing a bunch of games at the moment out of sheer boredom waiting for DA:I and I am hearing the DA/ME/Bioware games VO's all over the place. Cullen, Fenris - I think those  were kingdom of amalur and Meredith in Skyrim - don't quote me on it I'm playing so much at one time hehe  (I think it was more but I can't remember them all)

I'm hearing voices :P

As for the romance with Cullen / npc.. To be honest I *am* sort of worried. I didn't really like it in ME3... I really like having the LI in my group and part of the party banter. The comments from other members about the romance - like Zevran to Alistair. I worry that the romance will feel diminished somehow because of that lack of banter while trudging all over the place. But that is just my personal feelings w/o knowing what it will be like - they have said that you will have to go back to base a lot in DA:I so maybe there will be a lot more interaction in "camp". I keep going back to the PAX? video where he announced Cas and Cullen as LI's - where it was said it's okay if Cullen is a little awkward.. I'm evil.. I'm really looking forward to him being awkward if he is.. like in DAO where he bolts if you flirt with him... that was just awesome. I liked the Seb interaction in DA2 because if how embarrassed he got haha So I would be a happy me if Cullen is all cute and shy at the start with romance and all assertive in his role as a leader.

As for how hard the game will be - I am.. worried.. a little. As someone who plays on easy-as-possible mode, unless I want to unlock and achievement, I'm sitting here, listening to them say how they wanted to make it challenging, and cringing. Really hoping my mother and I aren't too hopeless for DA:I lol Especially mum, she has bad arthritis in her hands so she is slower that the average younger gamer (she can't control her character with the keyboard she is mouse only for movement and clicking skills) ... too challenging can mean not enjoying herself and giving up. She finds ME impossible to play, she was loving the story but the controls, shooting, needing to use the keyboard, was too much for her.

Wow, I'm going to shut up now. Didn't realise I was typing so much.

Dayum, R2. You just roll in like, "PaPOW!"

And ooooh. Talent tree, eh? (it's kinda odd that we don't get o chose who leads these important facets of the Inquisition. I mean, really shouldn't the Inquisitor be the one delegating responsibilities---for better, or worse?).

Hmm, at any rate, sounds good. And I love the Cullen Talent Tree. I have a feeling I may need that "I Told You So" unlocked

The "which LI is which orientation" conversation kind of stresses me out every time it comes up. And it gets the chorus of this song stuck in my head.

*whoops*double post

[snip]

^ now that is a nice looking Templar.

And to add some content to this post, some possibly modestly entertaining commentary from my husband last week:

Husband: So how is the Cullen thread?
Me: Well, they said he's going to sing in the game, so that's the big news right now.
Him: What.
Me: No, the voice actor actually has a Broadway* resume and everything.
Him: Oh. That's... actually pretty cool. THEEE WARDENNN! I JUST MET A GIRL NAMED THE WARDENNNN!!!! ... THERE'S NO BUSINESS LIKE TEMPLAR BUSINESS [blah blah blah more singing Dad-jokes for a minute or two until] ... I, uh, wish I knew more than like two things about Dragon Age so I could keep going.
Me: That's perfectly fine, thanks.
