What are you seeing in Cullen I am not seeing?  Granted I usually play a mage, in DAO he seemed crazy and paranoid- do not give him any power and in DA2 not much better, but in both he didn't have a very large role.  Frankly, I'm surprised to hear he made the cut in DAI.  So please, tell me what I am missing, because having him close to my party with what I know makes me uncomfortable.

Well the first part of this would be me asking if you went out of your way to talk to a lot in DA2, because if you didn't you might have missed some dialog that really shows more impressive aspects of Cullen's character. He comes off much more level headed and reasonable and expresses some concerns about his organization. Also did you ever play the da2 templar ending?

Eric was talking about Knights of the Old Republic, not the Old Republic. If we are talking about TOR, I TOTALLY AGREE. SITH INQUISITOR IS THE COOLEST, HANDS DOWN!

Starting it now. Had to come up with the ridiculous username of Chhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhu before it'd let me through lol!

Blonde bad-ass sith inquisitor is about to be created!

I saw him stand against Meredith, that was cool.  I didn't talk to him much outside of the quest with the corrupted Templars.  I'm not trying to start a fight.  I'm seriously interested.  He didn't seem to play much of a role and wanted to kill all the circle mages in DAO, and then ALL mages.  There are over 700 pages in this thread, so he's popular; I want to know why.  Is it his appearance?

Different characters appeal to different people. There are characters that other fans adore that I'm not fond of, and that's fine. Why not just give him a chance in DAI, and if you still don't warm to him, oh well. We don't all have to like the same characters, and I'm not sure it's possible to talk someone into enjoying a character who didn't naturally gain their interest.  :)

I won't lie. He's hot. But so are a crap ton of people in the Dragon Age games. His personality appeals to us, as well as his characterization. Again, it doesn't have to make sense to you at all. You are not required to like him in the least.

You really think we could go on about just that for 700 pages?  ;)

I'm not judging. I have loved almost all the companions in the games (I won't speak of Oghren or DA2 Anders). What in his character appeals to you?

Well, at least we will surpass 1000 celebration hype prior to E3

Has Bioware gave an ETA on when they'll announce the "uber edition"? I haven't done a pre-order yet because of that.

I like that Cullen is a character who has been through an incredible amount but still attempts to do the right thing and still cares about other people. I like that he's flawed. He's human and he screws up, but he keeps trying. I admire how far he's come, how he's healing and how much more open his mind is now than it was before. I like his willingness to stick up for what he thinks is right even in a very difficult situation and at great personal cost.

As we've said, though, if he doesn't appeal to you, I'm not sure we can talk you into it.

I generally feel weird posting art of people I know chill on the forums but:

templars_exist_to_protect_by_galagraphia
Source: Galagraphia on deviantart

Because though, yes, he was calling for the right of annulment after watching flesh grow on walls and everyone he ever sat down to lunch with effectively die, Cullen is not just the subject of military brainwashing - he seems to want to believe in the good in people (not wanting to kill Hawke, not wanting killing those mages who surrender if you side with the templars at the end of DAII, etc.) and generally that would imply that he has a good heart. I didn't get a stalker vibe from him, but a young man who didn't know how to react to a crush. I'm guessing that now he's not older than 33, maybe not more than 28 (after their 7 year timeline for DAII). Besides that, he's interesting, and there's a lot we don't know. He has a great voice, strong morals ... who doesn't like a man in uniform? (Mind you, a man without a uniform isn't so bad either (meant to be taken in both contexts that rogues like Varric and ... otherwise))

If you don't want to romance him, then I would also point out that they've said that DAII showed the worst of the mages / templars / etc. and that DA:I will show the best of these groups - yay that Cullen is making the cut. He's bound to be good fun, even if you find him to be a wet blanket.

It's funny that you should ask that!

We were discussing that exact same subject about twenty pages ago...and pretty much sporadically and frequently all throughout the pages. We all have so many reasons that it would be impossible for us to put it on one clear, general statement that applies to the masses. Personally, I like how he stands for what he believes in. We've gotten to see a lot of Cullen putting his foot down, calling the shots and making sure that he doesn't compromise his character. In a series where we call the shots, it's nice to see an NPC who is so firm in his beliefs.

Zippo, unfortunately. Probably closer to E3.

Nobody's about to fight you, so you can rest easy about that. It's a bit of several things, really; his appearance, flaws, personality, character growth (however little of it we've gotten to see due to his minor roles so far), it can be a bit different for each person, but that's the general gist of it.

I'm gonna go ahead and guess we may hear it after E3 hits, perhaps.

What appeals to me personally is his will. The fact that he survived the torture in the Ferelden Circle for however long is astounding when other templars - seasoned templars, perished. His character potential is also a big factor, he can go nearly any direction in the next game.

I will also say that he is a rather good looking chap with an adorable stutter. XD

Thank you for your responses.  I might be a little less wary of him now.  He does not seem to be in his Templar armor in the Last Supper screenshot.  Is that significant?

Does anybody have a link to a video of Cullen arguing that the surrendered mages should be spared and talking about the duties of a templar? (It's in the templar ending.) I think it's his shining moment, but I can't find a clip of it for some reason!
