I read that as the companions giving Inquisitor grief about the LI. Like Varric gave Hawke "the talk" in DA2. Doesn't matter where the LI is in that case.

Oh, I expect this to happen as well. Specifically, I was remembering the conversations from DAO (even more specifically, the conversation between Shale and Zevran) where all your companions have something to say to your LI. It should be noted that this is entirely possible to do just this within our main base of operations, so I was mostly being facetious.

But he was wearing templar regalia in the survey leak. Weak... but there you go.

That could have just been so that people could better identify him. I mean, how many people have poked us and said that the blond in the War Room image probably wasn't Cullen? But while it is interesting to ponder, it probably has no greater meaning than the fact that Solus has long hair.  :D

Asunder and Masked Empire actually occur at the same time pretty much but in different locations.

Thank you so much!

Depending when you played the game, that dialogue might've been bugged. Before the patch came out you can see it only with Anders.

AH! I never romanced Anders. :)

Yeah, my point being that we've seen hints of Cullen in concept with and without the templar regalia... meaning it tells us a whole lot of nothing.  :D

Exactly. It's a bit like chasing your tail, at the end you just end up dizzy, but in the meantime you're doing something!  :P

I see we didn't learn much in the Cullen-related department from the panel today, still good to hear that banter is still around and that it seems like they'll have more re-activity to our LI choices  :D And welcome to the delurkers and newcomers!

I am excited about the banter stuff. Given their reactivity to LI and what MLaw said on Friday about how the companions are also very reactive to the environment, it sounds like we'll get a lot of ... color from the companions. This is always what I had hoped to get from Leliana every time I could ask her about wherever we were.

So I've been thinking about something, and I'm wondering: as far as like "loyalty quests" go in this game, I'm sure we'll have them for our companions. But what about romanceable NPC's(which, heaven forbid, Cullen might be)? I always felt that loyalty quests were kind of a large part in initiating romance with the companions, but if you're romancing someone that's not a companion will there be some kind of fetch quest for them or something? Thoughts?

ooh, I haven't thought about that. It seems like they use the loyalty quests as a trigger/marker for the levels of romance that you can initiate at one time. I have no idea how it would be handled w/ a NPC LI, maybe it's just like w/ Traynor and Cortez where you just have to get to a certain point in the story/main questline and then have enough conversations w/ them?

Hmm, good question. DG has said that the romance dialogue balance will be closer to DA:O than DA2, so less of it will be in quests. Since you can only have real conversations at home base, it  probably means that those conversations will only happen at "home" anyway. I wonder if you could still do a quest for an NPC, like Cullen's Wilmod quest, and get, erm, points with him. (yes, I hate calling them points... but you know what I mean. approval/favor/whatever)

Hmmm...

My first thought is that there is a quest you have to do for them, but you do it without them. I'm imagining Varric being chirpy about how badly the Inquisitor wants in NPC's pants the entire time. This could work, but it does have a bit of an empty feel to it. Of course, the benefit of Cullen is that he is a warrior in his own right, so perhaps he could tag along. Temporary companion, or the fifth-wheel NPC spot.

Or, like in ME3, just talking to Cullen often and picking the right dialogue choices would be enough to trigger it. Perhaps there are optional dialogues that can be had, but only if you poke around the base for where Cullen is lurking.

Perhaps it has more to do with his advisory skills. Maybe getting the military agents up will open more dialogues with Cullen, including a romance?

All the NPC romance stuff will be new to DA. I don't even know how they're going to handle the approval system, never mind a quest where you can't even bring them along. I suppose it's not so bad for Cullen, he could just be a NPC who fights alongside the party, but what about Scribe Girl? If she's a romance, she'll probably get lumped with a boring ol' fetch quest, or hell, even a dreaded protection quest!

Unless Scribe Girl is a Bard. Did someone say Deceptive Wax Fruit?

i hope there will be a loyalty quest for every NPC/advisor/whatever period. i'm assuming Leliana/scribe girl are in the same group. i don't want those to be obtainable only if you romance certain char. that would be cruel

Certainly wouldn't mind that. But then why is she leading the Golden Keys and not the Purple Crows?

What about gift system? I wonder how the gifting NPC's goes. Similar as in DA2? That you need to find exaxt item to give it I guess and not just throw flowers and gold to everyone.
