I know it has been a decade since DAO, but man, if the wardens really are involved in all this crazy crap, I wonder how Alistair is going to deal with it? He had such a rose colored view of them in Origins.

He was so young and naive then though. He's ten years older and, what, now in his thirties? It might disappoint him but I doubt it would totally devastate him.

My Alistair became king and forgot about the grey wardens, so it won't bother him if the wardens are behind the red lyrium. Also, if I don't find out what happened to my Warden-Commander Queen, I'ma be pissed >:3

I think some of the Templars who saw what happened to Meredith just yolo'd and tried it for themselves.

Note to self: Never say Yolo'd again

My first thought is "Grey Wardens", since we do know they have an interest and mounted and expedition to the thaig Hawke went to. Plus we kinda already know they're into some weird **** in DAI. There was also a behemoth in the latest trailer at the warden fortress, so it could be possible the first behemoths were grey wardens, not templars. Or it was a templar. /shrug.

From there, I don't exactly know how/why templars could have gotten their hands on the stuff. The First Warden seems like an iffy sort of guy, but I don't know if he'd be making deals with the templars.

I could see the wardens bringing some back for study and it ending up growing like wildfire on the surface. They could easily huff the stuff, but that seems a little meh.

It struck me that Meredith knew a lot more about what was going on in Kirkwall, despite her mania, so it wouldn't surprise me if she threatened to interfere with wardens traipsing through "her realm" unless they shared something of what they discovered in the thaig, red lyrium being of key interest, given we know she got a hold of the idol sometime between act 1 and act 2, so definitely early enough to dig her fingers into finding more and slowly begin siphoning it through the ranks. Or she may have been involved with initial procurement, but it was after her demise that a Templar loyal to her/of similar beliefs started actually using the wretched stuff.

...lord, I hope they weren't using the red-lyrium-Meredith-statue as a raw source of material. Bleh.

I really like this theory,I think if somebody would oppose the red templars so openly apart from the inquisition, that somebody in my opinion would be Cullen and perhaps several other loyal templars, who happened to be present during the Kirkwall incident and witness insane-petrified Meredith.

Maybe the red fists, were formed with the purpose of eliminating the red templars(either by the divine or by Cullen)as you suggested, where I suppose they could gradually became a more diverse military group that not only consists of loyal templars but also of people who either survived an attack by the red templars or simply want to prevent their homes from being burnt or for whatever reason, thus decided to take up arms and join up.Also gives a very good explanation about why they would join up with the inquisition, considering that we're actively fighting the red templars as well.

So a large part of our army(if not whole) consists of the red fists, possibly led by Cullen...Hmm,it would seem that we'll be far more dependant on our advisers than I thought.

Wardens have 30 years from the joining to live yes? When abouts do they start to go insane? I've always wondered if it affects them differently and some start to go say at year 20 while others are fine up until year 30. It's been 10 years since DA:O so it's been about 11 or so years since Allistar and Warden have joined. Will they seem different at all from that? Seem more worn out perhaps. I hope not, but it would be interesting.

Oh man... Ick.

That final scene where the one Templar rushes forward and tries to touch Meredith always makes me sad for some reason.

I think the red lyrium seems to latch onto a weakness, which in Meredith's instance looks like a need for absolute power and control. If that's the case, I doubt she'd share it with her troops. I can see it being exploited after she's dead though, certainly.  :)

Using Mereidth's corpse as a raw source of material made me giggle because I can hear it now: "Ok, everyone... line up! Line up to lick Meredith!"

Did Meredith know there was a difference between the idol and regular lyrium though? I mean on a rational level. She obviously had the idol melted down and somehow fused with her sword (I'm assuming she didn't take it into her body in any way.) The idol made Bartrand mad with jealousy, and he wanted it back from Meredith. Would she have freely and willingly distributed it amongst the Templars?

Would she have recognized it as lyrium? I definitely think so. Meredith was many wretched things, but I didn't really account her as stupid, ya know? Given her own regular use of lyrium for years and the need to understand something of the stuff both for its use for Templars and those "dastardly" mages I think she could easily have surmised something of its link to lyrium in general.

Would she distribute it? Well I can certainly see her doing so by Act 3 as she's gone bloody well loony/megalomaniacal by that point. If she hadn't already started doing so, I could see her setting up the process and some loyal acolyte taking up where she left off.

I dunno if she wouldn't share it, though. I don't think she'd do it out of generosity or some sense of equality, of course, but when she freaks out at the end and calls Cullen and all the Templars weak whereas she is not? I think her weakness was less a need for control and more her own ego, her own trumped up sense of being one if the few with a clear vision of how the "sad sickness of magic" must be overcome. She's a zealot... In some ways a counterpoint to Anders/Vengeances zealotry. She truly believes magic to be a downfall and danger... Would a person like that at least consider giving her troops red lyrium to make them stronger - like herself as she perceives it - and better able to aid in her twisted crusade? Yes, I can definitely see that.

Hmm I looked It up and found this description from Goodreads:

"It has been centuries since the fall of the ten consecrated orders known as the Knights Radiant, but their Shardblades and Shardplate remain: mystical swords and suits of armor that transform ordinary men into near-invincible warriors. Men trade kingdoms for Shardblades. Wars were fought for them, and won by them.

One such war rages on a ruined landscape called the Shattered Plains. There, Kaladin, who traded his medical apprenticeship for a spear to protect his little brother, has been reduced to slavery. In a war that makes no sense, where ten armies fight separately against a single foe, he struggles to save his men and to fathom the leaders who consider them expendable."

Men, men, men , men! Am I missing something here? I'm looking for a fantasy world maybe with female soldiers, where female soldiers are normal, you know? That sort of thing.

Jesus, never mind then. Was just trying to recommend a good book. Forget I said anything. <_<

Not counting on it :/

In TME, Michel sees some soldiers training, and only "one or two" (lol like he's not sure?) are women. Later in another fight scene, none of the soldiers are women. Hell even during a courtly hunt only "some" of the women ride!

My inquisitor is so decimating Orlais if given the chance lol

I've wondered if it's possible that Meredith started slipping Red Lyrium to select Templars, fancying it a greater source of righteous power to rid thedas of its "illness" of magic. Perhaps even brokering a deal with the Wardens, since we know Nate (()) was looking for the primeval thaig and Stroud/Warden!Alistair were passing through Kirkwall for super-secret-warden-things, to bypass the need for lyrium oversight. Just a theory.

edit:  'd

Do you think she was chipping away from the sword? Seemed whole to me the last I played.

I've been pondering over the possibility of Meredith's remains whispering to passers by - especially to loyal templars who might be tending her grave/statue. Whispers that lead back to the thaig, because the red lyrium wants to be found.

This I like.  :D Sentient lyrium is something I would not mind seeing.

I do hope someone at least draped  a cloth over her. Last thing we need are red lyrium addled pigeons.

A level of sentience similar to the One Ring?

Don't they burn bodies in most of the Thedas? Can't remember if it's true or just my HC.
