Aye, but it might be common knowledge that Grey Wardens don't tend to have a lot of kids, since Carver mentions this fact himself if he becomes one, joking that's why he's started sleeping around a lot. He never mentions the Taint however, so simply telling people that becoming a Grey Warden makes having children more difficult, doesn't seem to be against the rules.

True, true!

It might also be that over the years everyone noticed that the Grey Wardens never had kids so it became a myth or rumour that they can't have any if they become a Warden. Who knows :P

When someone asked DG whether or not female Wardens should avoid going into the Deep Roads for their Calling, because of the potential broodmother thing, he admitted he hadn't thought about that... the whole exchange suggesting that, yes, it is a danger for them, but that it would be unfair to deny them the honor.

Screw that honour. My female warden would rather commit Seppuku than risk broodmotherhood.

They don't force Wardens to the Deep Roads do they? I can't remember. But now I'm imagining of some the new recruits having to drag an older Warden into the Deep Roads o__o

He's inconsistent about that. There was another time were he said something like "it is good thing Grey Wardens are infertile then", when someone asked about if they could become broodmothers.

Same, the men should also be instructed to try and mercy kill any women that the Darkspawn try to drag off. Or just give the women a slow acting poison before they enter the Deep Roads, so they'll probably be dead long before the Darkspawn can do anything to them.

No. They go of their own accord, because they know what would happen were they to stay.

No, no, it's their choice.

Mmm, good point. :throws up hands:

(edit: altho... erm.... do they um, really use those, um, parts for the broodmother thing...? NEVERMINDNEVERMINDDON'TWANTTOKNOW)

(edit2: But they're not infertile, right? It's hard but not impossible...? )

No. They go of their own accord.

I thought so, but I often miss random bits of information. It's much better that they go on their own.

All this lore/info talk makes me really want a "World of Thedas" coffee table book. c__c That way we could have the official information.

Well, I think the Darkspawn can circumvent that. And wouldn't it be easier for female GWs to become broodmothers cause they already have the Taint within them?

*wheezes*

This is made even better by the fact it was my male city elf who romanced him.

Edit: though I think he does say it's an earring he took from his first mark or something like that, doesn't he?

Alas, he does say that it's an earring.

ZEVRAN: Here... it seems an appropriate moment to give you this.

WARDEN: Is that an earring?

ZEVRAN: I acquired it on my very first job for the Crows. A Rivaini merchant prince, and he was wearing a single, jeweled earring when I killed him. In fact, that's about all he was wearing.

Um... I think he meant this... right?  You can have the official information. All at your fingertips and on your coffee table.  Many of us already do... (but it doesn't talk about female Grey Warden Broodmothers...)

In fact, I honestly recommend people to buy it, cause it is an easy reference guide, plus some really cool pictures.

I don't think they're infertile. Otherwise the Dark Ritual wouldn't work, right? And would the kid be born with the taint?

the joining stops the taint from progressing. or whatever it does. i don't really get that. how would darkspawn be able to turn a grey warden into a broodmother?

I don't think the taint makes much sense. Like for one thing it's suppose to make grey wardens infertile or near it. The Warden's mabari is tainted, he's like a Grey Warden, too. However he goes on to father a bunch of pupies.

Right. IIRC, DG said that two GWs together would be impossible, but with just one, it's just hard.

The first printing had errors that were later corrected. There's also a blog page with the errata. (it had an error in a particularly important date: Alistair's birth year, so this was a big deal. ;)  )
