this is also my hope since it shows up in DAI. My unfortunate suspicion, however, is that the book in DotS is subject to the same hand wavy retcon as the Kirkwall mention and the Justinia-Beatrix mixup. My feeling is the the movie makers orig intended DotS to fall between 9:37-9:40, which is why the orig official production blog listed the Divine as Justinia (who only ascended in 9:34), referenced Kirkwall (!), and ended with Cass seemingly being sent on her quest to find Hawke. Something (!) made them change it.

So now I reckon the book is just some Book of Secrets that Cass's investigations get added to over time. :shrug: hopefully there's a more elegant explanation.

When I finally killed him it felt GOOOD. But then I was like "I kinda wanna kill him in a more painful manner.... can I get some man eating bugs or something? Bees? No? Oh well...." 

Yeah, I wanted to kill him in a more painful manner, too.   I did make it a point to use my Family Sword to do the job even though is was pretty low stat by then, but I didn't care. I was like you will die by this sword!

 

I did tell him that after I killed him, I was gonna kill his wife and son, too. I was lying, but he didn't know that...and tbh,I don't think he cared. Which sucked the oomph out of that particular bit of attempt at scary evil warden.

That makes me think that it's probably an Ancient Tevinter fortress repurposed for the Grey Wardens. It would make sense, since Kirkwall was a Tevinter slave city.

Those statues make me uneasy. I wonder if Cullen would have anything to say about them if he saw them? LOL! I bet Varric does!

Someone postulated in the Twitter thread that since it is in the Western Approach and it has GW symbols, then it might be the Adamant Fortress.

I thought Cass's book was actually Hawke's journal that she pilfered when exploring Hawke estate during her initial efforts of the investigation. The confirmation of that book being the same as some holy relic makes me think 3 things. One: there's miscommunication going on at Bioware - which we know is possible. Two: the book was a prophecy written ages ago by some holy figure - maybe Andraste herself (I mean she WAS a prophet) - and now that stuff is starting to come to pass as depicted, Cass is sent to forestall the catastrophe - hence why she says to Varric "how many lives WILL be lost". Of course this could just be dramatic proclamations on her part because war = a lotta people die, but it's fun to think she had a specific reason for saying that. And three: DoTS actually takes place right near DA2 and Cass looking so young in it is a difference in art design. Which I find hard to imagine if there are time stamps for when the movie takes place.

I'm inclined to think the devs are just making inconsistencies because they're so busy and don't pow-wow to get it al straight with each other before stuff is said. So I'm taking the Holy Book Mystery with a huge helping of iodized sodium chloride.

I really thought it was Hawke's journal, too. Especially with the way Cass treats it. Or maybe even Varric's book that he lost somehow, or they found and threw it at him like GumShoe Cops like to do.

 

Then dev/fans were like, "Nah." So, i was like, "oh. okay. nvm"

okay. those statues do look like the Meredith fight ones. And is she--whoever it is--holding a scroll in her left hand?

 

the bottom one looks like a baby dragon is nesting in that tree. lil sticking out. i mean, it could be tree branches, but  considering the question--

I don't think they're supposed to actually be statues of Meredith, they just have the same circlet on, lol.

I don't see a baby dragon but the way the sand dune has a wave to it down there, it looks like something could be moving underneath... which would give me nightmares. lol

Weren't those statues made by Tevinter magisters? I think one point Fenris points them out. There is statues like that as guards and then statues of suffering slaves in the Gallows. So maybe that place is somehow connected to Tevinter, like was once stronghold of magister?

I think the official name is "Gate Guardian" or something like that.
