Someone was thinking in the Twitter thread that it's Adamant Fortress, though...it seems kinda small for Adamant.
Maybe it's just part of it?

ah. okay. and the western approach is supposed to be a kinda suburbs/rural area of Tevinter...right? With the Ven..Venatori?
No, no. The Western Approach is a desert in Orlais. The Tevinter stuff would have been there from millenia ago, when the empire ruled the majority of Thedas.

I'm thinking more of an ex-Tevinter territory from the old Imperium, that is now part of the Orlesian empire.

It does look pretty small. Though the wiki says the fortress is built into the side of the chasm so I suppose you may just be seeing the tip top of it while the rest remains out of sight.... like an iceberg.

I was thinking pretty much the same, that maybe only a small part of the Fortress is depicted in this image.

Hmm. Maybe it's alot we aren't seeing? The only fort I know of so far in the Western Approach would be Adamant, but there are prolly more forts in that area, too.
I wonder what that smoke/dust stuff off to the left of the pic is about?

Possibly. Or it could just be a smaller fortress in the Approach lol
I think the official name is "Gate Guardian" or something like that.

Yeah it's all weird and confused. So I'm thinking there are just too many people with one idea which is different from another idea. I mean, a holy ancient relic has Hawke's companions in it? Come on. It being Varric's made sense consider her apparent contempt for his tale spinning ways in the beginning. He even looked kind of sad after she impaled it. But why would he have put Hawke's buddies' faces in the book? It would make it hard for him to continue writing if his readers could recognize every body he wrote about. Hawke is one thing but the others? It just seems unwise when you're exaggerating like he does for a living. So I'm not sold on the idea that it's his book either. Meh... I guess we'll find out.I really thought it was Hawke's journal, too. Especially with the way Cass treats it. Or maybe even Varric's book that he lost somehow, or they found and threw it at him like GumShoe Cops like to do.
Then dev/fans were like, "Nah." So, i was like, "oh. okay. nvm"
Wasn't it said that they had sightings of Gryphons in the Western Approach despite them being supposedly extinct? I forgot where I read that. Could've swore it was hinted somewhere which might mean we get to finally see one in Dragon Age. I know it was the sight of a great Blight battle.

I'm pretty sure gryphons are extinct. However, the Last Flight might proves us wrong.
For reference:
I saw this and immediately thought;
Hawke: Hey Isabela!
Isabela: What?
Hawke: Even the statues wear pants! Just saying...

Talking about the timeline in DotS and Kirkwall, it makes sense that they're talking about Threnhold's attempted kick out of the Templars in 9:21. We know that the Amell child coming into their powers caused as scandal that knocked their family out of the running to replace Threnhold as Viscount. If they were about the age of 8-12 when this happens - from Wynne's comment that she was a little girl and Cullen mentions most mages manifest "a dozen years" after birth - this would make the Human Mage Warden roughly 17 - 21 at the time of the Blight. This also fits as the Mage Warden is just undergoing their Harrowing at the start of their Origin, as Circle!Bethany underwent her Harrowing at 18 and Rhys mentions in Asunder that he underwent his at roughly 20.
There probably won't be any graboids, thresher maws or aggressive cacti, but I'd put my money on sandstalkers (they're in Leliana's Song) and darkspawn. In fact, Rhys encounters darkspawn in the Western Approach during Asunder.
I did it! I finally caught up! I --

...and that is even better in color! I'll just go ahead and save that.
Also, holy sh*t, we're very close to 1000 now!
Of all the beautiful things in that picture, you care most about the HAIR!?!?!?

I always believed that book at the beginning of DA2 was written by Varric, some kind of "Tales of the Champion" thing
... But i never seen DotS
I thought this too. I guess I need to see DotS. Is it worth buying? I don't suppose it's on Netflix...?
I thought this when I first played the game, too. On DotS, I personally enjoyed it... but this book handoff honesty has nothing to do with the plot of the movie. It's like one minute. So, IMHO, I wouldn't watch it just for that.
So, were the statues in the Gallows from the Tevinter times? Or..what were those supposed to be statues of in the Gallows that we had to fight? Anybody know the back story with those?
I always figured the slaves were left over from the Tevinter days and wondered if the big gate guardians were retrofitted a bit to be Andraste with her Andraste-like headband. Also how the camera pans over them when Cullen is talking about how the popular thought is to view the mages as the downtrod, etc... But having them all just be Tevinter byproducts probably makes more sense... esp since we know there are Venatori around those deserty parts around the Western Approach. The keep in the demo was around there, too (Griffon WIng Keep).

There were griffon weyrs in the cliffs at Adamant.

I LOVE YOU FOR CITING GRABOIDS!!!
I'm a little confused by this. We know from several sources, including codex and World of Thedas, that Threnhold did his thing in 9:21. I don't think that's a point of contention, is it? I guess I'm just not following how the various mage timelines connect here...?

Threnhold: yeah, he was trying to blockade and tax the heck out of the Orlesian's ships/goods that wanted to come in to Kirkwall. So, the Divine being a friend of the Empress sent the Templars to put the screws on him. That's when he fought back...and well...didn't go to well. Meredith launched an attack on him for killing the other knight commander. Then she appt. Dumar for Viscount . And sum rumors that dumar might have been behind Damien being arrested for smuggling and what not. Just to make sure any descendents didn't try and make a grab for it.
Either way, interesting stuff. And no one knows what ever happened to that Damian fellow. prolly lying in a ditch somewhere dead.
Ahem, R2, did you see the pretty Dorian on the past page? ![]()
btw: the DA wiki says adamant fort is made with jet dark stone

Help?
Nah, was just pointing out that the timeline of the potential Human Mage Warden fits with the Threnhold coup of 9:21 (although it makes that potential Warden rather young) as Leandra mentioned that the Amell child displaying magic is what caused the Amells to lose the running for Viscountcy to Dumar.
(I like to work out the timelines for various Wardens, although Leliana's Song and the City Elf having a mother implying they are still young, despite it only being 2 years before Origins, always throws me...)
you know, those statues look like they're holding a staff in their hand. and a scroll in the other hand.
