I know right!!!
The varric one made me go "THIS IS REAL"
Does that make Hawke analogous to John the Baptist then?
Both are (possible) cousins of a messianic figure (Jesus/Human Mage Warden), both had followers who later went onto join a messiah (Jesus/Inquistor), both were content to live a relatively simple life and both could be seen as "cleansing" people of their past;
Hawke helping Fenris finally be free of Danarius, helping or dissuading Merrill from the Eluvian and Blood Magic, being a "bad influence" on Isabela and making her return to face the music at the end of Act 2 (and believe in love if romanced), helping Sebastian avenge his family's murder, trying to free Anders from Justice (even if it did go horribly wrong), helping Aveline find new purpose as Guard-Captain and new love with Donnic, and persuading Varric to either mercy kill or spare Bartrand.
And if Hawke's role was ultimately to help set the stage for the Inquistion by being involved in some of the events that lead to the old world order having come crashing down, that makes them the herald for the Inquisitor, much like John was for Jesus.
Let's just hope that Hawke doesn't end up with his/her head on a plate though, eh? I really like Hawke!
