I personally don't think we do enough joking! Lol I don't see why this issue needs to be brought to light at all as there are hardly a lot of jokes being tossed around. I've seen more serious conversations and, quite frankly, I could care less what others think! Most of them will think that if they're getting to you and annoying you, they're winning and they will jab at you more and more. Fact of life. But, yeah, utlimately, this thread is really serous with its discussions so unless you want absolutely no lightheartedness, I can't see how you'd be able to tone it down at all. 

 

Well maybe the NSFW jokes could be toned down a little? XD I actually feel akward reading it, I mean it's okay for me but I'm kind of.. well ... umm.. not used to it so much. Otherwise I think the jokes are just fun. Off-topic conversation could be taken into chat though since it's easier to talk about it there and well I don't know what mod think of it.

I personally love all the jokes and whatnot.....if I wanted some super serious conversations I'd go talk to my dad :3 The reason I still lurk in this thread is that its not really a Cullen thread, its more of a safe haven for people who like Cullen, where they can talk to other people who like Cullen without being judged, and its nice to have that.

*But on the note of what Socks said, I honestly think if she replaced "Cullen" with, well, anyone no one would have made a big deal about it.

I just had a dream that I was at Disneyland with Christina from Grey's Anatomy and we were being chased by demonic garden gnomes..... I should probably get my head examined. 

 

Oh, your head is just fine. Your dream actually reminded me of a friend's dream: she dreamt that she was at an amusement park and at some point a very demonic version of myself shows up and starts chasing her around. Also, there was something about me eating babies. I don't even know.

Because some of us, many of us, would like to occasionally leave the thread and have discussions about things other than Cullen without being harassed. I may want to discuss gameplay, or Cassandra, or romance, or the dialogue system, and so I go to those appropriate threads, and maybe I want to just meet different people and feel as if I'm part of this overall community of fellow BioWare fans. I would like to be greeted with respect, "Oh, you're a Cullen fan? Cool, I'm a Solas fan." Simple as that! 

 

Now to some degree this feels like blaming the victim; "Don't act silly or the bullies will catch you and make fun of you." Yes, I agree; that's not fair, and it's lame to blame ourselves for the way rude people treat us. But I do think there's a happy middle ground we can all shoot for

 

I'm glad you see that kind of like blaming the victim, too. And like I said, I totally hear you and respect what you have to say. It's really weird to me that anyone would figure out that you're a Cullenite anyway, then proceed to harass you for it. I admittedly don't play outside of this forum so that's probably why I haven't seen it, but that really happens? Talk about insane behavior....

Ogres are hardest to fight against but nightmares.. not enough. And emissaries just reminds me of the Architect     And hurlocks reminds me of Disciplines

The Broodmother herself doesn't exactly scare me. Just the entire little section leading up to her, with Hespith telling all about it, still unnerves me *shudder*

 

The Children, however, are a whole different story. Those f*ckers were closer to nightmarish levels for me.

Sure, it's okay to go OT here and there. We are a community after all. But to say this isn't a thread to discuss Cullen but just a place to hang out I think is a little misleading, and is the sort of thinking that results in ten pages of nonsensical OT chit chat.

I just love the old darkspawn design! They were so cute! Turning into a Mother didn't seem like such a big deal when the babies were so cute  Maybe it's a Fereldan thing - everything is better in Ferelden, even the darkspawn are cute.

I think we should just probably keep our Cullen love contained in this thread  Because some dragon age confessions on tumblr gave me the impression that we are a proselytical sect, which declares an Exalted March on everyone who says they don't like Cullen. I've never seen anything like that from Cullenites, and those confessions don't get much attention, but they do spawn, and I wonder if people imagine things, or simply envy our happiness, or try to troll, or ruin our reputation.

I didn't see anything criminal in the marriage thread btw. I think it's just that after Fenabela hate this topic is a bit touchy, so some people overreact.

That's the thing, though. I don't think *any* of us have seen the type of vitriol we get accused of (of which we get accused? /grammarnogud), I feel that it gets trotted out as justification for the crappiness that gets thrown at us.  And I kinda hate that we have to be all "If you go out there, make yourself as small as possible, so not to be a target.", but I guess that's the nature of this message board. 

 

We're Alistair and they're all Morrigan, I suppose.  

(I can't say enough how much I love this thread, though. There are a lot of different opinions about a lot of different things, and no one has to be an ass*hole about it. *group hugs* )

Also, that little incident is part of the reason why I, personally, would prefer to keep the silly, crazy talk in the thread to a minimum. Because people enter this thread, just to poke around and see what we're up to, and if we're going on seven pages of gifs and penis jokes, people come away from the thread believing everything they ever heard about us: Cullen fans really are insane people not to be trusted, etc. etc. 

 

There shouldn't be a reason for why a person makes a harmless joke and then gets jumped all over for it. Except here on the BSN, that's pretty normal if everyone figures out you're a Cullen fan. You're obviously insane, so it's everyone's right to pick on you.

I've found that to be pretty normal behaviour even if they -don't- figure out you're a Cullen fan. Outside of here there are several groups of catty, vicious, rage nerds that seem pretty miserable, period.

 

The way I see it, only when it seems cause to get us in trouble with devs and what-not should that stuff really be toned down. But don't do it to change the minds of those people, or to prevent misconceptions from being believed. 'Cuz I doubt any amount of good behaviour on our part would alter some of their opinions. They've already made up their minds, and I just don't find them worth the effort.
