Technically, if all we talked about was Cullen, there would be a lot less conversation pages (as we've sucked the Cullen topic dry) and more smutty fanart. Wouldn't that just feed the trolls? I like to come to this thread for all my updates, because people here are very friendly, unlike a lot of other threads. Anyway this is why I lurk. I'd prefer not to argue about it.

I think we should just probably keep our Cullen love contained in this thread
Because some dragon age confessions on tumblr gave me the impression that we are a proselytical sect, which declares an Exalted March on everyone who says they don't like Cullen. I've never seen anything like that from Cullenites, and those confessions don't get much attention, but they do spawn, and I wonder if people imagine things, or simply envy our happiness, or try to troll, or ruin our reputation.
I didn't see anything criminal in the marriage thread btw. I think it's just that after Fenabela hate this topic is a bit touchy, so some people overreact.
I haven't seen many positive Cullen confessions anyway. Maybe they're trying to avoid hate mail, but all the confessions have been middle-ground or dislike.
I don't mind if someone dislikes Cullen (for good reasons instead of "everyone likes him so I hate him"), but we need confessions from all sides.

Uh that sounds like there is serious friction going on underneath. I wonder why : <
Nah, not friction, I'd say. But the thread moves too fast for some people to keep up with. Others prefer to keep discussion related to Cullen and at least DA lore since it is the Cullen thread. Some don't like the vulgarity, and some who access the thread on old computers or on phones find it hard to navigate with all the gifs.
There's not much else to say, I guess; people are going to do what they want to do. Maybe eventually this thread will get shut down because it's just so wildly OT half the time.

I know. I'm seriously disappointed by the apparent undercurrent here. We really can't start doing this fighting amongst the ranks business. It makes us no better than anyone else here, and it's an insult to all of the people who come here constantly saying "I like this forum because we're a welcoming, open, super nice community."
Aaaaand then we see this...

Thread isn't moving all that fast in the past few weeks. Maybe like 10 pages a day at this rate. And I highly doubt that thread will be shut down just like that for something so trivial. Straight up pornographic and hate speeches? Yes. Discussions about the game and other things Cullen related? No. The thing that will get people to stop coming is the false implifications of being an open, welcoming group and then hashing out at people for having what little fun this thread does. Even going as splitting people between /new/ and /old/ fans, as though there is some caste system. Hence, why I have been more inclined to lurking the past few weeks.

I would submit a confession, but I have too many words in my head to put on a small picture, and they are mostly in a language very few can understand ![]()
Last time I tried to wrote down why I like Cullen so much, I was told I should take the black and join the builders on the Wall, because I've build a very impressive wall of text.
BTW, which page in WOT is about lyrium? This book is so difficult to navigate! I should probably use my vacation in July to just sit down and read it.

Well, I'm sure Cullen will be skeptical of him, seeing as he is a mage. IDK Dorian's personality to be precisely sure where it would stem from there.

I think we don't really know enough about him? If he's what his survey leak says he is, someone who wants to change the common perception of Tevinter magisters, then I think he will clash with Cullen very much. I don't think he'd ever be able to convince Cullen that the Tevinter way of doing things is the right way.
That said, I hope we don't have tons of hate between our companions the way we did in DA2. I really hated the hateful comments Anders would direct towards Fenris, or Fenris towards Merrill, or what have you.
I like that in the latest video the inquisitor says "Whatever we were before, we are now the inquisition." It's sort of like saying, please leave all your baggage at the door; this is serious business, people lol

No, nothing like that. There is a bunch of people who occasionally hang out in the 2.0 thread, including myself, but we don't talk much there, because we don't have any new info on Cullen. We also wanted to keep that thread spoiler-free to hide there from spoilers when the game comes out
And yes, this thread is difficult to read on mobile devices becase of gifs, and some of us find it difficult to keep up because 3.0 updates too fast. But no schism has happened, don't worry. We don't think we are better or anything ![]()

Definitely agree. Friction is one thing and can be quite an insight into character personalities. All out hatred that doesn't change or evolve through nearly ten years is just irritating.

Yeah, I like the chat and I've tried to use it as often as possible to show I support it. But it looks like the majority don't care if the thread is OT and moves too fast for some to keep up, and that's fine. Majority rules and all that! Plus with so many people in the thread now, it's almost impossible for it to not move at neck-breaking speed.

based on the no-info we have on DHMG's personality, I predict he will tease Cullen mercilessly, flirt with him outrageously (and the inquisitor!), and just generally exasperate him. Hoping for some serious conversations between them, and everyone, to find common ground and respect.

I hated how the hatred just escalated. Like there was no in betweens. It's like:
Anders-Fenris= Hate
Anders-Merril= Hate
Anders-Aveline= Bordering on snark on Ander's end
Anders-Carver= Hate
Fenris-Merril=Hate
Sebastian-Anders= Snark
Literally, like every other conversation was bathed in hate or snark. Half the time I wanted to throw my controller at the T.V.

I agree as well. DA2 was difficult in the sense that you never really had a team, just individuals that you would recruit as you saw fit. With DAO, they could at least get along...for the most part. Even the banter between Morrigan and Alistair was mostly playful. I think in DA2, it took away from the story, really, since you couldn't see your companions as part of a happy little motley crew.

I agree with you. I`m ok if companions have diferent kind of views but the hate was a bit too much... And i really love that phrase too. A group of people putting aside their diferences to achieve a common goal, i like it

It is, even though with some characters I could understand why they couldn't change their minds about certain issues. They had just been too traumatized. I was okay with that (and in fact Fenris is my favorite character in DA of all time), but it really put a damper on the perceived camaraderie of the companions. And in DA:O there was Morrigan constantly insulting Alistair. I really hope our companions are more understanding and more mature this go around. Again, I can't fault Fenris because he went through unimaginable and unforgivable torment, but I don't think I want to experience that again with a companion. And luckily I don't think Cullen is too similar; yes, he experienced torture at the hands of blood mages and demons, but I don't see him outright insulting someone like Dorian. I see him more just shaking his head at the man, perhaps pursing his lips to keep from saying something.

I've said my opinions in the old thread about off topic conversations, self-censoring, vulgarity etc.. Those I don't mind. Depending.
But I agree about the sometimes endless gifs or videos (they constantly freeze my PS3. People keep forgetting to *snip* things in replies, then you get 10 copies of the same gif/video on one page), or leaving and finding it's jumped 50 pages and it's mostly off topic.
I guess in the old thread there was a difference between 5 pages of off topic in 1 day, and 50 pages of off topic in 1 day. I'm skimming alot more than I used to. Sometimes gets too hyperactive and squee-fest for me, too. I'm not a perky positive person.. Imagine me as a Daria like member of the group. I don't like participating when it gets like that.
I've been trying to read more on here. I think it's because so many have de-lurked, and we've acquired many new folk.
So the pages jump more because more people are replying all at once. If we'd had more people in old thread, it might of been the same.
But yeah... the gifs and videos would be at the top of my list. If I have to hard reset one more time...

That's understable.. there is names I hate or have bad association with cause of someone I don't like ^^;
Fiona just reminds me of Shrek's Fiona so no problem for me there
Ah, that's why I always picture her with red hair, even though it's actually brown!
That and Alistair has red hair, at least on my screen.
I am wondering something, based on Until We Sleep spoilers...
I'm a little late on this, but since Cullen is (theoretically) leading the armies, I imagine him being close to wherever the Inquisitor is, rather than always waiting back at Skyhold. Is it possible we'll have temporary camps as we wander about the map, or drag our advisors to whatever base we visit? It makes more sense than arriving at a place, realizing that we need more than a handful of people, and saying "Just you wait until I bring in my army...after I go back and find them!" ![]()
(That and I want easy access to Cullen.
)
I think I've successfully talked myself out of hoping to get an Inquisitor's Edition copy of DAI, even though everything looks fabulous. I was prepared for $100, but I can't justify $170. I do hope they make the tarot cards available separately though! I wonder if there will be a separate package available through Amazon, or if the Deluxe Edition is it.
