I guess really we can't use DA2 as an accurate representation of romance arcs/story arcs for DAI because the game had such a short development time that a lot of things were cut and everything was condensed, not to mention it was a lot shorter in length than DA:O.

True. I'm excited to see what a 3 year development period will give us.

Though there are things *cough* armor degrading *cough* that I feel they shouldn't of spent time on, in order to spend time on other things.

Agreed. I wouldn't care if my armor stays intact through the whole game if it meant we got a few extra bits of dialogue or another quest... or better hair.

Why even have degrading armor in the first place? I get the "giving us a challenge" thing, but when I get my Inquisitor looking just the way I like, I don't want the armor to drift away. I hope that's one of the things they cut. Even if it's complete. Cut it.

Hair would be an AWESOME area to spend time on. Just saying. So far none of our companions have long hair other than the warden.... and a third of them are flat out BALD!
This worries me!

I know, right? I feel like I had the wrong reaction when they revealed this "feature." I was like, I spend all this time finding, crafting, and customizing this armor and it's going to degrade and turn UGLY?! lol

I'm still really concerned about the hair issue. So far we haven't seen a companion with really nice long-ish hair. I'm hoping and praying it's just the last thing on their list, but it IS on their list.

Warden does I think. Can't really tell. If it turns out to be shortened (like Sera's), then all hope is lost.

I hope they've been listening to feedback during development. I'm trying to stay optimistic, but this feature still worries me.

My first reaction was much the same, except I liked the looks of the tarnished helmets better, because the non-tarnished helmets were like freakin' beacons with how shiny they looked. XD;

My second reaction was a 'meh, so I'm gonna be pouring coin into repairs ala WoW?'

Yeah, it's hard to tell. I think he does, though. But it's kind of slicked back? So it's still not a good example of free-flowing long hair.

I'm honestly not hoping for or expecting hair to move like it does in a hair commercial lol There just has to be something in between. The hair in Dragon's Dogma has a vibrancy to it that I'd like to see DA replicate. Ponytails swing back and forth, and the texture looks pretty good, too. And it's not exactly a high resolution game.

I'm somewhat ok if we can find materials to repair it or something, but I don't like having to spend coin on it.

I'm so sorry. This has nothing to do with the hair convo, but I just misread your sig as 'My Cullen x MLaidlaw ficlet' and had to do a double take. Thought you'd get a chuckle out of that...

In an attempt to make things more positive:

I just bought some organic lotion that makes me smell like a fruit rollup. I guess this is something my future husband, Price Harry, will enjoy ;)

All head canons aside, we don't know how long he's known her. What we do know is that he'd barely even spoken to her. If you pursue all the dialogue options you can have Amell/Surana say "who are you, again?" Suggesting that even if she does know his name they've not spoken enough to be friends or even close. If you pick the dialogue that says "I knew I would not fail my Harrowing" he says "you've always been so confident... er, or so I've heard" suggesting again that he's not had much interaction with her beyond admiring her from afar.

I dare say back then he thought he was in love with her, but he was very naive and inexperienced at the time with no real romantic experience to know what real love is. Hell, when I was young I thought I was in love with a few guys despite having hardly any interaction with them, it was just mere infatuation, just like Cullen experiences with Amell/Surana. In DA2 he remembers Amell (which also counts for Surana) fondly, some people consider that to be him still lusting after her, but to be honest I think he was just remembering her fondly tinged with a bit of melancholiness that he'd never met another woman (or potentially man) of the same caliber again... To me that sounded like an obvious hint that he was starting to open up to the idea of a relationship, even if it was only subconsciously, so it comes as no surprise that he's a love interest in DA:I, clearly our Inquisitor will be that caliber/type of woman/man that he likes.

I agree with the second part, but I think devs left us the option to determine how well Cullen and f!Mage knew each other. It's quite possible they knew each other for a long time, until one day Cullen noticed that, OMG, she's hot! :) And she loved him back, and she tried to find him after the Blight, but he was always one step ahead with his assignments, and she couldn't track him down. Or we can RP it like she doesn't give a damn about him, doesn't remember him when she returns to the Circle, and she's actually a horrible person, a blood mages who sacrifices children to demons, stabs innocent Chantry scholars, pisses on Andraste's ashes, and drinks dragon blood. But Cullen will still remember a beautiful and heroic young woman he saw in the Circle some time ago, because half of the things he loves he imagined himself, and the other half was rumors about The Hero of Ferelden. If we have an option to ask Cullen who he is, it doesn't indicate that it's impossible that our mage has never talked to him before, it's just an option left for a curious player, or for a player who wants to RP it like she and Cullen are complete strangers. After all, we have an option to greet him like a friend at the same time.

It's like with Gorim: if you act like you two are lovers, the game will react to your dialogue choices, and will aknowledge that. If you act like Gorim is just a friend, the game will respond to that too. Same with Cullen: he can be your templar friend, or a complete stranger, or even that creepy guy who you hate, because he embarrasses you.

Yes and No? I think it just feels that way because they're kind of marketing to the traditional hardcore straight white boy gamer lol So they're emphasizing combat, graphics, etc.

I'm a woman, and I'm a hardcore player when it comes to RPGs, tactical combat and all that stuff. I was scouting, setting up traps and ambushes in DAO all th time, just because it's fun for me :) I hated the fights in DAII, because it was chaos, with raining men, and stupid mages throwing themselves at the bosses, or rogues throwing themselves under the fireballs. So I'm very happy combat will now require thinking again. I don't think it means the game's focus will shift towards the combat, because it's BioWare, they tell stories, that's what they do. I think they talk about the combat so much just to indicate that they took into consideration our feedback about DAII, and they are going to make our battles more controllable. I also think battles won't be a problem if you lower the difficulty. Like in South Park, for example. It's quite fun to play on normal difficulty, but can become very challenging if you raise it to the nightmare. I think anyone will be able to find a difficulty level they can handle, no matter how casual or hardcore, just because making battles too hard for an average player means the loss of profit. So don't fret! :)

I'm also excited about huge maps, because I love to explore, and I don't want to rush through the game. I explored every single planet in Mass Effect on Mako, just because I loved the feeling of landing on all those cool planets and taking pictures of my Shep under the alien stars. :) And I bet we will hear something interesting from our companions when we find something unusual (like in DAO you could hear about Tal-Vashot only if you brought Sten into Brecilian forest).

Is anyone else concerned that DAI will be more focused on these combat encounters and it's dangerous open world than it's story and characters?

Yes, I'm starting to worry. :S

Either way, he obviously moves on from whatever it is people pick/RP/head canon for Cullen and the Amell/Surana because he's certainly romanceable in DAI. Perhaps he will address his past feelings for Amell/Surana and explain how well he knew her and whether it was love, or just a youthful infatuation that we've all experienced in our time.

As a personal preference I'd prefer him to say it was just a youthful crush/infatuation, it's all well and good looking back fondly, but if you're still hung up on someone you hardly knew after 10+ years and putting that person on a pedestal without really knowing them well/intimately then that's a bit weird and my Inquisitor shall be jumping ship onto the Dorian train! Cho-cho!

(My Warden would be horrified to learn such a thing, she's ALL about Alistair... and maybe Jowan, in her younger circle years, lol!)

I'm actually happy that Bioware are concentrating more on gameplay this time around. I found the gameplay in Dragon Age 2 to be tedious, unfulfilling and rather dull. The story was the only thing that kept me going to be honest. I hope they can strike a balance this time around, and i'm actually optimistic about what i've seen thus far.

Don't get me wrong, I don't think I could handle waves of spawning enemies again ala DA2, but I'm concerned that the devs and the game will concentrate so much on the combat, crafting and environments that the story aspects will suffer.

It is a worry, but if i'm being honest I don't think the storytelling was a strong point of Dragon Age 2 either. I'm fairly optimistic that they can't do much worse, so I envision an improvement in both areas of the game, which I feel can only be a good thing. Imo Dragon Age: Origins was superior in both aspects as well.

I'm actually more worried about multiplayer taking away from both the gameplay and the storytelling.
