It is a worry, but if i'm being honest I don't think the storytelling was a strong point of Dragon Age 2 either. I'm fairly optimistic that they can't do much worse, so I envision an improvement in both areas of the game, which I feel can only be a good thing. Imo Dragon Age: Origins was superior in both aspects as well.

I'm actually more worried about multiplayer taking away from both the gameplay and the storytelling.

To be fair DA2 had such a short development time that it's probably not really an accurate representation for aspects of DAI, lol. If they go about the story, quests and character development the same way they don't DA:O then I'd be quite happy with that. I just don't want it to be all combat and trekking around Thedas fighting, crafting and capturing Keeps 24/7.

Have they mentioned anything else about multiplayer? They've stayed very tight lipped on that one.

Not that i'm aware of, but for me multiplayer will always remain a bigger worry than improved gameplay.

Agreed with everything you said regarding Dragon Age 2. Hopefully a longer development cycle and increased budget will allow Bioware to improve upon ALL aspects of the game. I just can't really see them neglecting the story/character side of things, as it's historically been what Bioware is known for.

Ok, will be on the road most of the day.  You wouldn't do 100 pages today, would you?  I mean, nothing Cullen related would happen today, right?  It's Saturday. Of course not.  I'm not worried. Really, I'm not.

On Adamant, it really seem that it is the same fortress in the PAX demo (it'd be weird if they made two fortress in the WA very similar). I wonder if the named it Gryffon wing in the demo becuase the didn't want to reveal its real name? Or maybe the name changed after we took it?

This is exactly my thought. It's very clearly the same keep. It's also very clearly called Griffon Wing Keep. Given the fanfare on the official page this week about Adamant, my guess would be they were just keeping it hushhush... despite having already shown us that there's a quest at "Adamant" in the GI vids last summer. But, I think they underestimate the zeal of CSI BSN sometimes.  ^_^

I know. My comment was nothing more than a passive-aggressive jab at the devs for wanting people to mod but not giving them the tools to do it.

I see. I guess it just seems to me that they philosophically support modding, just don't have the resources to invest in creating a toolset for the new engine. Don't despair! If anyone can figure out how to mod DA:I, despite Frostbite complications, is the DA modding community!

Have they mentioned anything else about multiplayer? They've stayed very tight lipped on that one.

Didn't MLaw address it directly at PAX, saying something like no plans at this time?

Either way, I guess Cullen's brave enough to start flirting back at some point because his voice actor tweeted about recording flirty, sexy, romantic and "raunchy" dialogue in the recording booth a couple of weeks ago. Apparently the guy even sings in the game, so he's clearly not that shy, lol!

You know... if I'd never played DA:O and never overexamined  his role from that... I would never remotely call Cullen shy in DA2. I honestly don't really see that in his personality. He never seems unconfident or un-authoritative during the game. He's just getting sh!t done. He stammers once about the "lovely ladies" from the Rose, but that more likely, to my mind, is because he's trying to be delicate and not call them something unseemly. So, I'd hate to see his DAI character turn into a sort of caricature of his most commonly remembered traits, truth  be told.

R2: I'm in 100% agreement! I hope they haven't made him ridiculous.

I think Mike was referring to someone asking about an MMO.

Hmm, that could be.

On the stammering... I didn't think GE said Cullen would stutter/stammer in DA:I. I thought he just answered littlenikki's question about who came up with the stuttering from previous games.

I kinda love the idea that Cullen was stopping himself using a slang term for the Blooming Rose workers. I've always figured that he's probably got a bit of a potty mouth simply because he's a soldier in a military setting surrounded by men and tough women, but at the same time tries to avoid swearing when talking to the general public or dealing with people outside the Order in a professional manner.

I wouldn't mind hearing him come out with some real clangers when he forgets himself for a moment, or have him tell a crude story/laugh at a crude story told by Sera or something. Above all else, I hope he isn't always super serious or a bit of a wet lettuce, lol.

I think there was two. The one I'm referring to is where he says "ooh good one, just enough in my opinion" in regards to Cullen blushing/stuttering in DAI.

I love this. I would love to see how his professional exterior does have a rougher side that he doesn't always share when "on duty." I'm always struck by how freaking overdiplomatic he is during DA2 Act 2, giving very careful answers from the Order's PR department. "they say" "that's the common thought" For once I'd like to hear him say something like, "Well, the Order would say... blahblah... But to be frank, I'd say... *sheepish grin* bollocks to that."

Agree. I guess I hope that there are little, appropriate moments like that that give rise to GE's comments about 'raunchy' and such, and not that Cullen's out there constantly giving Sera a run for her money in the crude joke department, you know?

About the armour 'degrading' they remained vague when explained, so I can't be sure, but in my opinion it won't work in the way that armour and weapons will degrade and you have to repair them, but they'll only look 'used' the more time you spend outside (and maybe based on the weather/enviroments) and that you can retain their polished look when you return to one of our keeps, but I doubt we'll have to pay for it.
And I don't think that this feature could affect the writing part of the game. It can affect other features in the same field like more option in the CC, i guess.

From what I can tell it's only armour and weapons that degrade over time and get covered in crap. I think the clothing just gets muddy/wet/dusty when traipsing around Thedas. Whether or not you'd have to clean those, or if all the crap just fades off as you get out of the dirty/wet area is anyone's guess.

TBH, over the normal course of the game... I don't really care if my clothes get dirty or my armor get tarnished. I'm not terribly interested in RPing my laundromat experience. I think it was more an issue for DA2 when nothing every changed over seven freakin' years. But I would be surprised if DAI lasted even close to that length of time.

I reckon it'll run the course to a year, maybe two at a push. Can't say I care if my Inquisitor gets covered in crap either, so long as I can change up my outfits to suit the situation (like we always could) then I'm golden. I think I'd be more interested in being able to change our hair/makeup/general appearance via the mirror of transformation or something similar.

Yeah, they didn't really explain how the system works or how you remove the crap that covers your equipment.
I just doubt we'll have to pay for it.

I want the mirror because I'd like to change my hair/beard during the game (even if it won't be as long as DA2 it'll be one-two year long as you said). Plus, if we can have scars in the CC I'd like to add the during the game for showing the danger we face.

My guess is that rather than an item snapping and breaking completely, it probably just becomes less effective, looks a bit rough and needs a fix up at a blacksmiths or something. The armor will probably just give us less protection and look a bit tatty in places.
