I'm generally pro-circle but I had to side with the mages at the end of DA2. Meredith just wasn't justified in calling for the right of annulment. Anders blew up the chantry, not the circle.

I'll shed no tears for Orsino though, he was everything Meredith was accusing him of. Weak willed, corrupt, and he WAS hiding blood mages. He should have just let the templars search the tower, much of this could have been avoided.

This is probably an unpopular opinion but I thought Orsino was the worst developed character in the game. We barely saw him.  And his introduction in Fenyriel's Fade Dream was too jarring.

He needed a BETTER introduction. At least we saw a glimpse Meredith in the beginning and there was a sense of forboding.

We did not get that with Orsino.

Also...we should have known about Orsino's connection to Quentin for mage Hawkes.

The fact they made a Orsino a 2nd Boss fight was also a huge turn off.

Also.. just a reminder since reading some of the threads....Meredith always HATED the mages even before being corrupted.  The red lyrium just made her more paranoid.

I always found Orsino kinda creepy, dunno why.

He is the worst developed character of both Dragon Age Games.

Will always hate him.  I also hate how made half the players assume that all mages were evil blood mages.

I don't think he could pull that out without knowledge and planning, probaply even training.. I think he might have had information from Leandra's killer since I think Orsino some part said that he didn't turn him in because of knowledge he could need?

That only happened because they wanted a second boss fight at the end of the game.

This.

The first time I played through and went into the Fade I just sat there like "Who..? Who is this guy?" My brother informed me then of who he was :P It's like we missed a whole mini side quest about him.

I don't think Meredith ever really hated mages. She was a hardliner and paranoid to the extreme. But she never really demonstrated pure, unbridled hate. She was clearly traumatised by what happened with her sister. She even stated that she hated what they were doing to the mages, that it was breaking her heart, even though she felt it must be done.

If she hated mages then why did she turn down Alrik's tranquil solution?

In many ways I actually see Meredith as a rather tragic character, she was broken. Even before the idol, and should have never been in a position to lead, yet I can't help but pity her.

I think it's unfair to claim that she felt hatred for mages.

yea, I think the only thing  to "blame" here is the Idol that just made her go nuts , and also what caused her to call up the right of annulment

Has there been a lineup schedule posted for E3 yet? I'd like to kinda know what time Bioware's stuff will be presented. Or do they not ever give us a schedule?

So to be clear... you DON'T like Orsino?

I didn't care for the fact that DA2 really was a Kobayashi Maru, no-win scenario. I mean the best out come is "well, you didn't die". I guess I can see why they did it that way (time constraints aside)... It does make a great catalyst for DA:I so the events are necessary and it leaves it all very grey. For me, DA2 will always be one of those filler episodes, sadly.

I don't think it was the only factor. But I think it was the element needed to finally push her over the edge. It was the final ingredient needed in an already volatile concoction, with disastrous results.

I feel this way, too. Meredith had compassion at one time, but she wasn't as strong as Cullen, basically. She adopted a "by any means necessary" attitude and that's why things at the gallows got out of hand, I think. Yes the mages were driven to desperation, but Orsino was such a let down for me ... I would have loved to know more of his story, but in the end it came off as "I'm the reasonable one. No, wait, that was a lie, I AM a secret blood mage who totally let your mother get killed! So, even though Hawke's totally wiping the floor with the templars in this battle, I'm going to kill/absorb the remaining mages in a fit of ... (not quite sure) and attack everyone." I guess I didn't even get enough of Orsino to pity him. I just felt kinda frustrated about it  : (

I feel it would have been okay, though a bit of a downer, to have a no win scenario for DA2 if they'd had enough time to complete it properly. It just felt so unfinished in so many ways. There's so much to love about the game though. Thank goodness they put Cullen in (with plot armour) and let him get some character development. I'm still kind of shocked that he's actually a LI in inquisition XD

True.. in a weird kinda way i see her  kind of as Cullen (regarding the past) as in they both had bad experiences regarding mages...  but she had a bit more of a personal one then Cullen did tho.. so I guess she took it mor to heart....

I suppose the only difference is that SHE was in command and she had more "power" over what was going on...  some of her methods  are not really great but I suppose that's how she saw things as being "right" and try to keep order among the mages... I don't think she meant to be evil at the beginning I think she was tying to prevent other mages from becoming into what her sister did...

I think Meredith was pretty Type A to begin with. Nothing throws a person like that into a tizzy faster than the feeling of losing control. No, I don't think she was evil to begin with. The idol surely tipped the scales for her.

I guess that's one small bonus about not having Cullen as a companion, I'll be more inclined to switch the companions up rather than dragging Cullen around everywhere, lol.

... Unless I take a big liking to one of the companions, lol.

SO true, I would always drag my love interest everywhere in Origins and ask them what they thought of  every place we went to. Also, spontaneous kisses/reactions from the rest of the party. lol

yea , I think that the more ppl who went against her  the more she wanted to revolt and make ppl see that mages *could* be a thread if not "contained"  I think it might have been one of the reasons why she might have decided to take red lyrium in the 1st place, She probably might have thought that the red lyrium might give her more power(witch it did)  and perhaps she thought it might "help her control things better"...

I think she was pretty  "obsessed"  about maybe getting the mages to the  "right path" as in not resort to blood magic and become abominations,  she wanted to control more things at once and that clearly ended up biting her in the arse.. as she didnt really knew how to handle it right... thats my take on it atleast ....

I always took Zevran everywhere with me, even though there's absolutely no romantic content outside the camp whatsoever (you can't even kiss him). Hell, considering how much he flirts with pretty much all the female companions, it almost made me want to LEAVE him behind instead of bring him... but he's so cute, I couldn't resist xD

Just out of curiosity, do any of you get games from G.O.G. dot com? They had a sale last week that had some good stuff on, but more importantly, There was a great vibe on the forum. It reminded me of here. Just a lot of cool, fun and generous people. FYI, this is the only forum I spend time in that isn't work related because ... well this is the best place to be, frankly. You all make me smile : D

But, now back to Cullen!

Wow, really? I'd forgotten that. How unfair! It's been too long since I played Origins ... I mostly loved Alistair's and Morrigan's reactions since they were always so offended by each other : p

I'm a moderate, but I side with the mages at the end of DAII. Deciding to kill all the mages because of the actions of one mage (whom is standing right in front of her) isn't exactly a compelling argument for me.

As for Anders, I was initially surprised at the scale of what he did to the chantry, but eventually became somewhat indifferent like the horrible person I am. The situation was awful, and if it wasn't Anders, someone would have eventually done something. The breaking point was inevitable.

Just started my first Dalish Elf playthrough and the stuff with Tamlen and the mirror happened way faster than I expected and then when Duncan told me it was hopeless and I'd never find him I STARTED CRYING AND FELT CRAZY.

Do you guys ever cry playing video games? :(

The only time I've cried over content in a game was when Hawke's mother was murdered and then some. I'm super close with my mom so it really punched me in the feels.

I know the first time I cried was the ME3 ending. God that was heartbreaking. We're talking full on disgusting sobs, too.

After that, I played the whole trilogy and got to know guys like Thane, Legion, and Mordin. ME3 spoilers:

Spoiler

Then I of course cried once again for the ending, even though Shep lived this time

Call me crazy but if I was romancing Zev, I never brought any female companions with me.
His banter with Wynne was especially odd, to me. It's like if it had T&A, he was trying to get at it. Of course, that's only my prerogative because I didn't romance Zevran as a male warden, only female. So my view may be colored a bit. I could barely even do those playthroughs, in part because Alistair always made me puddy in his hands, and also because Zevran didn't acknowledge my warden in DA2 and I'm weird about that. It bugged me big time that Alistair called my warden "an old friend" if he stayed with the wardens even though I've watched the video where he acknowledges the warden as "the love of his life", I've never seen him say that in any of my playthroughs where she romanced him and they built up the wardens together.

Their sarcastic banter is one of the reasons I love DAO. To give sarcastic remarks and then get them thrown right back at you is one of my favorite things! :) I still snicker when Alistair says "Can you go crawl into a bush somewhere and die? That's be great, thanks" to Morrigan even though I know it's coming and have heard it a million times.
