So to be clear... you DON'T like Orsino?

I didn't care for the fact that DA2 really was a Kobayashi Maru, no-win scenario. I mean the best out come is "well, you didn't die". I guess I can see why they did it that way (time constraints aside)... It does make a great catalyst for DA:I so the events are necessary and it leaves it all very grey. For me, DA2 will always be one of those filler episodes, sadly.

Yes.

Orsino and most of ACT 3 are my huge issues with DA2.     And I think its definitely due to the rushed production.

I also think I am overly triggered because some really gross Orsino/Meredith art came across my Tumblr dash.

In my opinion, he wasn't on enough to warrant a fandom...let a lone a creepy hate ship.

Hopefully the Developers have learned from Dragon Age 2's flaws and the character development is more balanced.

I am sure we don't need to worry too much about DAI's character development, etc. This game has been in the making since DA2 shipped so...three years or so? I have a feeling it will be pretty great. And with Cullen as a love interest, how can it not be better? Greg Ellis makes everything better for me.

I'm a moderate, but I side with the mages at the end of DAII. Deciding to kill all the mages because of the actions of one mage (whom is standing right in front of her) isn't exactly a compelling argument for me.

As for Anders, I was initially surprised at the scale of what he did to the chantry, but eventually became somewhat indifferent like the horrible person I am. The situation was awful, and if it wasn't Anders, someone would have eventually done something. The breaking point was inevitable.

Orsino... 6hq895.gif

This is probably another unpopular opinion...but I felt more for the people in Darktown.   The Chantry was seemed like an empty mausoleum. And yes what Anders did was wrong...I tend to not care.

I saw people who needed help in Darktown. I saw Chantry sisters soliciting poor people for donations.  It became obvious to me the Chantry strayed from its intended path and change is needed.

Wow, that is rather admirable thinking Melca! I share in this with you! :) The people of Darktown suffered the most out of everyone, imo.

Cool. Thanks for that. Hmm, I guess since DA:I has already been announced, then it would show up in one of these previews??

Yea I think so since BW is a division of EA they are pretty likely to show up on  the E3 broadcast channels even if it has been announced.. I mean last year they had games that have already been announced  and they still showed trailers for it like The Sims, or Call of duty, Titan Fall and all that stuff that EA  had cooking like EA sports such as NBA or NFS and stuff like that

This I've heard as well, I think pointing to the fact that most of Orsino's plot deficiencies are really a casualty of the limited development time for DA2.

Getting back to Cullen... This would be really interesting. Of course, I would love for him to be lyrium free, so this could be a cool, healthy way for him to be, erm, sidelined as an advisor. Plus, some fun issues for you to deal with in the romance, his midlife crisis of having lost his mojo. Heh.

I rated the game a 7.5  after I played. I can honestly say my score would have been higher if the game could have had a longer development cycle and a better 3rd ACT. So yeah...you're right.

Thanks for understanding. :)  I remember clicking on the random dialogue and it just made me feel bad.  And in the 3rd ACT there is this one npc dialogue that says "Where is the Chantry when you need them. Not here"

That alone sealed my feelings on the Chantry.

I own it, but haven't read it yet. Right now I am reading Patrick Weeke's book The Palace Job. So I can't read them both at the same time, or I will get sh*t confused.

Back to Cullen. David Gaider mentioned a couple of times that a romance must have some angst to be interesting. So I wonder what will it be with Cullen? His PTSD? Sense of guilt because he had to leave the templars? Shattered ideals?
I'm starting to think he indeed left them. I like how Evangeline explains this, and I think Cullen may feel the same way:
"I may not believe in the order, but that doesn't mean I stopped believing in what we stood for."
Maybe when templars broke away from the Chantry, people like Cullen couldn't stay with that order anymore, because there was no place for them there anymore. It must have been hard, because it's like losing your family, and your purpose, and your friends if they disagreed with you, or were too scared to agree with you. So we may find that while our General maintains the facade of this composed and experienced professional, he actually feels broken and lost.

Just saw a body swap challenge on Tumblr and made me think of DA. I wonder how certain characters would be if they were of the opposite gender.

Just a quick progress report for the Cullen mod I'm working on. So far, about half of the dialogues are written and tested in game and the scripting works for mages and rogues. Still working out the item usability kinks for warrior Hawkes. The premise is that Cullen joins Hawke (and optionally, Hawke's LI) for a brief dungeon crawl.

The head morphs are mine. I was going for a DA2 look using the DAO engine. The DA2 armor is courtesy of the generous amycus and the wonderful Kirkwall Exports mod.

tbh I dont really want Cullen to have too much  "angst"  as it makes me more to think it will be another Anders 2.0  like at 1st, his "mentality" might  be in the right place but when he takes action on stuff its just stupid like killing a bunch of innocent ppl just for the sake of  "proving a point" that to me does not excuse you,  of your intent if your action are just down right  stupid  to kill innocent ppl  In  order to prove a point.

I really hope it doesn't go that way... I mean even If Cullen is an addict to reD or bule lyrium I hope we don't have to go on a rampage in order to get what he wants just to satisfy his habits

Given that Gaider acknowledged that Fenris and Anders "occupy the same kind of 'romantic space,' the ‘oh, you musn’t love me’ man pain", I don't think it's unrealistic to hope that we'll have at least one male LI who isn't especially angsty this time around.

EDIT: Although I assume the relationships themselves will each have their angst to one extent or another.

I'm ok with angst, I just hope it won't be too much. Cullen had a lot of angst in DAO, but was doing great in DAII. Having a lot of angst again would feel like a regress. Of course, there are new reasons for that now, but he also got older, so I hope he won't be an emo :) Emo general would make me sad

In any event, I anticipate they'll have to address how templars who don't work for the Chantry are getting their lyrium. If Cullen is still on it and works for us... I wonder if it'll be an issue. Then again, given our alliance with the Seekers, Cass and Leliana, seems like we're still sort of Chantry friendly. Unless the Chantry writes us off after we form the Inquisition. Hmm... questionquestions.

And, BTW, welcome back!! :D

Thanks R2  : )

I was thinking maybe they're the "red templars" because they either can't get their hands on the regular stuff which is chantry regulated, or they specifically sought out the red lyrium because they heard it was more powerful? I mean, Meredith controlling those statues seemed essentially like magic to me. Where do they draw the line?

Interesting. Now I wonder if maybe Cullen is not a companion because he somehow got rid of lyrium addiction, and now he thinks he's useless in a fight, because he lost his abilities. But he still offers his strategic mind as an asset to the Inquisition.

Oh Cullen, you will never be useless to me, or to my Inquisitor!  ;)

I could definitely see that as a reason for Cullen not to be on the front lines - assuming you can get rid of a lyrium addiction, which I'm not sure of.
