This reminds me of the love triangle in Mass Effect where you can have either Kaidan and Liara or Ash and Liara confronting Shepard. The human love interest calls it quits if Shepard isn't ready to be with just one love interest but Liara seems to just want to be with Shepard no matter what. So Cullen would propably have a reaction similar to the Kaidan/Ash and act much as you suggested.

Do you think that breaking up with him could lead to bigger consequences later on? Like him switching sides or not trusting the pc when it would be vital that he did?

I don't think he'd be that petty, but it could lead to him getting killed in combat at the end or something if you maybe broke it off (more-so if the story dictates it for whatever reason), like perhaps his mind is distracted and/or if you didn't complete certain tasks etc it causes him to not fight as focused as usual thus getting killed.

That being said, if he was to die in DAI it most likely wouldn't be due to the romance arc, and more to do with his main story arc/stuff the Inquisitor didn't complete/do properly, lol.

I don't think breaking up would alone let bigger consequences since I think Cullen is very bound with duty and his morals so I don't see him betraying Inquisitor just for break-up, I think quizzy would need something that's very against his morals. However I think his approval might drop and low approval could lead to bigger consequences ^^;

That's presuming the npc-romance(s) have an approval system of some sorts.

I have to do so many saves! D:

For possibilities like this I hate going blind in BW games. I didn't know Bethany or Carver doesn't have to die.. they both died in my both playthroughs. In ME2 I didn't know there was possibility to make all survive from suicide mission nor how I could do that so I ended up losing Miranda and Tali : ( I can't stand if I lose Cullen too cause of mistake, I can't just let that happen! :(

Hadn't thought about his npc romance status affecting the approval scoring. Then he might not get party banter either as we can't take him with us :( That's too bad the banters are one of my favorite part. But maybe he'll have dialoque or even cut scenes with various companions and other NPC in the inquisitor base? Like in Skyhold we might stumble on him talking to Varric/ Leliana about how to get the pc's attention and that's how we find out more about his personality/ romantic history (outside actual conversations with him ofcourse).

Yeah the suicide mission was a nightmare to play for the first time! And then I kept getting that bug where Mordin and/or Thane kept dying for no reason.

Well I surely hope they have... I would hope they could also question your decisions, maybe in a planning meeting etc. if you have done something they don't approve or positively react too. I'd just want Cullen to be active character instead of passive who just needs right words to be happily in romance. I think I just like approval system much more than ME's system since I'm not sure where I stand with them in ME.

This!

JediBeagle, I am hoping that similar to on the Normandy in ME3, at Skyhold in DAI your companions/advisor NPCs will move around the base over time and as you walk by you can witness them having conversations with one another about different topics. It would also be great if you could interject into these conversations and perhaps give the Quizzy's opinion on things.

BTW finished The Stolen Throne today, moving onto The Calling :D

Yes! I liked the fact that even the NPCs on the ship walked around and did their thing and some even saluted Shepard when he/she walked by. And with the new type of conversation style where the Inquisitor can walk in and out of conversations talking to characters will probably feel even more realistic.

Well, at least we know that his relationship will be acknowledged and recognised since he's not being thrown in as a DLC romance or anything *cough* Sebastian *cough*. I just hope they handle it better than ME3 did with Cortez and Traynor.

I've always wondered what his reaction will be once you've bedded him and then be like: "yeah, I'm not interested/this was a one off" sort of thing? Presumably he wouldn't shag you without real feelings being there (unless we're incredibly wrong about his personality, lol), so I can't imagine he'd be best pleased. I don't think he'd threaten the Inquisitor like Anders does with Hawke: "you'll regret this", though.

I suspect he'd have a really sad pained look on his face, close his eyes for a moment and then go right back into professional mode trying to control his voice and emotions: "As you wish. From now on it would be better if you only approach me regarding professional matters, Inquisitor." But the whole time he'd have his back to her/him so that she/he couldn't see the gutted expression on his face. Poor baby.

(I'd never take that option btw. I'd have to watch it on YouTube or make a really god awful looking Inquisitor to do all the horrible stuff for "lols".)

Oh GOD! Heart. Is. Broken. LOL. Poor Cullen!!

So true about Sebastian, Lola! That romance aggravated me. Since we are building bases and the devs have talked about how we can unlock new aspects for bases through our adviser NPCS, I hope that means that the advisers will be more integrated into the storyline therefore have a more concrete influence on the relationships they develop with the Quizzy and other companions. I am hoping that there are events at the Skyhold base that can happen over time, throughout the game, and will included the advisers joining in on any festivities etc with the companions and Quizzy.

This is a good point. All I can think is there must be some kind of approval system that tracks whether or not he likes you, regardless of whether you can see it. Then again... maybe he's even more of a sure thing as an NPC, and he'll like you no matter what...? :crying:

How did you get Cortez and Traynor to like you?

I'm also hoping that Cullen will still have some sort of loyal quest thingy as part of his story arc. I'd like to be able to take him out in the field at least once or twice... I feel like the whole Red Templar thing is something his story should heavily be part of, and as such I'd want him to be there for some of the related quests.

I had forgotten this. I wonder if NPC's and companions will get angry with you if you leave in the middle of their words XD I think Skye would do this, she would just start suddenly think something else and start walking out..

I'm not sure with Cortez but with Traynor she just initates things with you regardless of how you talk to her. She comes up to play chess, sees that you have a shower, asks to use it and then she makes a hint about fancying "a certain lady", Shepard plays dumb and then you can either join her in the shower or stay put, if you stay put then she takes the hint, LOL!

I used to love that in Fable 3, if you walked away they'd be like: "Oi, I wasn't finished yet! How rude!"

All I'm saying is Leliana (or any other companion/npc) better keep their claws out whilst my Inquisitor is dating him!

I know that's right! *clicks tongue*

Lol @ the person in that one thread who jumped all over me because I apparently offended him by saying id kick scribbles in the face if she thought about touching Cullen. I believe they called Cullen my "bang bait" or some such nonsense. I was joking, of course, but no I wasn't joking. I'd kick her in the face twice, mmmkay.

Guuuuurl *clicks fingers*, what's funny is that it's really no different to having a partner in real life. You wouldn't want some random bint coming onto your boyfriend/girlfriend (unless you're into that), the same rule applies in-game for the protagonist, LOL!

Nothing wrong with that. It is all digital and NOT the real world. So you can be how you want in your own imaginative world. No one hits on Socks' man!

I'm more amused when someone hits on my boyfriend. He's so oblivious, it's hilarious.

Doubly amusing when he gets the ones who act like I am invisible.  Only had one that annoyed me, but that was because she was extremely passive aggressive. It wasn't cute anymore after the 2nd time of being referred to as "Hey, girl."

Anyway, I doubt the DA LIs will be this horrible. We've gotten snark, but nothing outright cringe worthy that feels like it should be in some teen drama crap.

I don't mind if they don't realise that you've/they've got a partner, but if they continue to do so once they're aware then it's beating time!

Yep this though how I actually would react in game would depend in my quizzy. Skye wouldn't even notice but Tamarin would plotting of sending that companion or advisor in the suicide mission XD

Mmm... this does not sound promising for a multi-dimensional romance, I must admit. *musthavefaith*musthavefaith*musthavefaithinthewriters*
