I believe that the idol might have been the remnants of another woman (perhaps a female dwarf from the Primeval Thaig) who had been petrified by red lyrium.
Just noticed that the lyrium idol looks surprisingly like Meredith...

If Cullen became ill, would he have to "Cullen sick?"
And if you had to use magic to see what might be wrong inside him, would that be considered a "Cullen-oscopy?"
Don't worry. I'm not here all week.

I worked with young kids for a long time, so I saw similar mannerisms in Cole. That's why I too was surprised anyone wanted to romance him. I don't think anyone is a pedophile though - people see things differently.
Maybe it's the people who didn't read the book, and they just saw that picture, where he's pretty hot. and thought, "Ooooh! Can I have that guy?"
I kind of feel bad when I think we will be taking Cole on dangerous missions with us and make him kill people. But that's probably because I'm still a new mom, and I think with motherly hormones instead of my brains
I know he's dangerous, and strong, and pretty tough, but just because he acts like a child most of the time, I want to protect him.
Have a Cullen.

As far as Cole---I'm beginning to think that maybe not seeing him as having the mentality of child through his mannerisms etc, and wanting to romance him may just be more of an age/generational thing? Like sum are closer and indeed younger than the technical age of Cole...soooo they may not be viewing him in the same way as a person that's in their 30's for example?
*more broad sweeping generalizations incoming!*
Indeed, I have a suspicion that sum of the split on Tallis' character may be related to age differences and the diff perceptions that come along with that. Not that it's just females that don't like Tallis because [insert your fav. unfair, stereotypical misrepresentation of women here] that David insinuated (which I felt was really unfair and quite beneath him). There are quite a few guys that don't care for the character, either.
Younger ppl may relate and empathize more with Tallis--and the way she talks and her mannerisms/ways of saying things, more than sum of the older players which might just find it grating.
I know it's broad generalization, and I mean no offense to folks that like her character.
Broad generalization often lead us on the path to more specific conclusions in our research ![]()
As for me though... I'm 33, so I don't think the age thing as it relates to Cole qualifies for me. Cole acts the same way many teenagers in the YA books I read act, so to me he was just a teenager-ish aged character... perfectly fine for a romance. DG saying that Cole "obviously" has the mind of a child made me want to say, "Well, obviously not 'obvious' enough, my friend." The situation would be less off-putting if he'd said in a nicer way, but he just seems incapable of putting things nicely when speaking to fans, so it's not surprise. (Don't get me wrong; I still admire him and he's totally my writer-hero, but... the man's rude sometimes, and that's that lol)
As for Tallis... I did not like the way her face looked (it's weird... it didn't come out right; Felicia is so beautiful, and it just didn't... mold right... to the elven face lol), but way more importantly, the voice acting wasn't very good (imo obviously). I didn't know who FD was before playing MOTA, but when I played the DLC, I could literally imagine a woman standing in the studio reading the lines. I didn't buy that Tallis was a person and this was her voice. Tallis was clealry a "character" and there was a human actor somewhere reading lines. And it's not her American accent amidst a sea of Brits; Varric's accent is American and I never picture a voice actor when he speaks. I just see Varric.

Could be. I know I like Felicia Day a lot and really didn't like Tallis at all. And though I'm *older*, I like to think I'm still hep with the kids and all
You should see me doing the macarena.....
Oh and regarding Cole - I have a 12 year old son with dirty blond hair that hangs in his eyes, and it's him I picture when I read about Cole. So yeah, it's a mothering vibe I felt for the most part. Though also creeped out a bit at the end (my son does not creep me out however!)

@rapscallioness, to be honest, I never understood why Tallis, and by extension, Felicia Day, got so much hate. I really liked Tallis.
Tallis grates my nerves, but Felicia Day I don't understand why anyone would have a problem with her. In fact, most posts I've seen have gone out of their way to say that it's not abt Fellicia Day.
I didn't even know who she was when I originally played MoTA. Now that I do, I have nothing but respect for her. She's a go getter (and I actually like her Guild series that was on).

funny you mention protectiveness. at first, I was...not thrilled w/Cole as a character/companion. He creeped me out. But then there was that Bible/12 apostles analogy thing where it looked like Cole could be the "judas". Now, it was all supreme and merely for enetrtainment speculation, but it got me thinking. I started wondering IF that happened, what would be the reason for Cole to do something like that?
Then it struck me that IF Cole still has that naivete and childlike mind, someone may very well try and take advantage of him. Then this fire just kinda flared up in my chest at the idea that someone would take advantage of him. And the whole feeling completely shifted how I feel abt the character. Completely. Now I feel very protective of him. ![]()

yes, but who were they consciously, or unconsciously, writing it for? Her demographics do swing toward the younger male side. And may be that's why the visual artists also thought put in a judiciously placed Tallis bum shot in her intro.

lol Did they? That's hilarious. And her gravity-defying top *snort* But, honestly, even though I myself am an ancient crone in her 30s, I didn't find any of Tallis' speech "too hip" and "young" for me to understand or get. It was pretty normal speech.

I don't give a damn about what anyone thinks about why I like Cullen
I like him because a lot of reasons. Didn't mean to generalize, however, was only considering a possibility that it may be the reason why some people want to bang Cole. The age difference hypothesis looks plausible to me too.
Anyway, it's confirmed that Cole is not a romance option, so I'll drop this topic.

Agreed. Gaider posted saying that he made it "explicit" that Cole had no concept of what sex even was. I damn near sniped back to tell him that clearly it wasn't explicit enough if so many people were confused. And yup, the man can be a total ass at times.Broad generalization often lead us on the path to more specific conclusions in our research

Well, to try to see it objectively, that is why some people decide that they like Cullen initially. It's the same with people deciding they don't like a character based solely on their appearance. However, if someone makes that claim about all his fans, or chooses not to read our actual discussions, it's likely they've just come to troll, or they're choosing to be willfully ignorant. I'm not a particular fan of gross generalizations, but like you said, it helps people start to form specific conclusions. Think of all the cool people in here who started at "he's hot" and then found out how much depth and character potential he had when they joined the Cullen thread : )
I'm going to read Asunder in the near future and I'm looking forward to discovering Cole's character for myself.

Interesting, and perhaps! In my case - a 24 year old literature degree student - I find Tallis' character lacking a bit. I feel like I've seen her a dozen times before. Of course, we don't know her entire back story. We can assume since Tallis is based of Felicia Day's City Elf, but we are given no real explanation. We know she's a smart-ass, a flirt, and a generally good person. Flaws? She lied? Holds a grudge against humans, perhaps? Headstrong and may ignore authority but always for the right reasons. And what about her back story? We have a sneaking suspicion as to why she joined the Qun, but that's it.
However, we do know for a fact that she doubts her own religion. She can't find that peace everyone else seems to possess. I think we all can relate to that when we want to find out way in life, and in our own religion.
I would love to know more about her.
BTW I think Felicia Day is freakin' adorable and I just want to hug her. XD

As far as Cullen and ppl liking him initially cuz he's handsome to sum ppl:
I think it's unrealistic to expect ppl not form a base of attraction because of a character's, or a real life person's, looks. It does start somewhere. Now if it's only abt that, then something is being missed. But generally speaking humans are hardwired to "inspect" another person's looks to basically--and unconsciously--judge if that person would be good mating material.
Overall, it's an assessment of health. Down to if they have clear eyes; a nice flush to the cheeks--not too pale and sickly looking. If a person looks sickly something deep down in us does not want to Get w/Them.

Spoiler
I think the looks always play some part in attraction, usually big one too. But I don't think it can only be diminished to that like some seems to do. I remember this thread here asking why people like Cullen and someone just answered: they are fangirls and they think they are handsome. Well there is fangirls who think he's handsome of cource but it's not all about that, personality and character traits and flaws plays a huge part. It was somehow insulting just diminishing cullenites love to only drooling over him when Cullen is much more complex, intresting and gray character.
