I saw the link on FB and knew not to click it. It makes sense that at this point all released material is going to be considered canon (as far as events are concerned... NOT what our Hawke did or didn't do, etc.) so it's gonna be on the website.
A friend of mine wants to start our summer book club up again, and I said not right now, I'm busy reading a video game tie-in novel ![]()

Oh yes, they do...but if something were to happen that starts a flurry of excited posting, then we could be at 1000 in no time flat. I don't want to get caught with my likes down...er, in a manner of speaking. ![]()

Jeez, so they basically spoiled a decent bit of the Masked Empire.
I liked that even Dwarves in Orlais, still come across as Orlesian and have to stick it to the Fereldan's at every opportunity...
"In Ferelden, half the cities would be on fire" my foot! I'll kindly point to both the Blight and the Ferelden Civil War, only ten years prior, where that never happened at all, except for Redcliffe near the end of the game (which is constructed mostly of wood) and the Battle of Denerim, which had the full force of the horde descend upon it.
Damned Orlesian arrogance, is it wrong that I want the option in DAI to support neither side, perform a coup of my own, or simply sit around shooting the breeze when called to close the Tears in Orlais and let the demons wipe the entire country off the map?
Vivienne: Inquisitor, you must help! A Veil Tear has occurred in the heart of Val Royeaux, people are dying by the thousands!
Inquisitor: Orlesians, Viv, "Orlesians are dying by the thousands!"
Vivienne: Aren't you going to help?!
Inquisitor: *Puts on his scumbag hat* Nope!

They're so nice they might actually agree to it. Then I'd feel pretty bad lol That said I'm not reading my friend's awful depressing John Greene book. I hate depressing realistic YA fiction. Gimme fantasy! Gimme swords, queens, and elves!
re: Orlais, I'm a snob so I actually love noble characters and milieus
My Dalish quizzy won't much care what happens to shems, but it's the personal connections he'll make with humans (not shems) that will help open his eyes and encourage him to be more empathetic.

I plan on my first play through to be an elf that hates the Dalish after seeing them from the outside, which is just my personal opinion too. I hate them after TME.

Ooh. I hope the Orlesian dresses are as cool as that in-game. And I love that scene with the lions that's all reminiscent of the DA2 book style, too.
I can't be the only one hoping for a big disney style dress for our Inquisitor //// ? You know, as an optional outfit for parties and social events in the game. Can't see her waist deep in bog muck while wearing something so fancy ![]()

Inquisitor: Don't worry, I'm here to help! Elves and small children, come with us, we'll escort you to safety!
Orlesian Noble: What about the rest of us?
Inquisitor: What about you?
Orlesian Noble: What are we suppose to do against the demons?!
Inquisitor: I dunno? Do what you always do? Put on a mask, act arrogant, offer them some stinky cheeses... you never know, the amount of sheer pretension alone might prove to be as utterly lethal to them as any poison?
(If you can tell, I really don't like the Orlesians. Well, snobby Orlesians, but that seems to be their factory setting for the most part.)

I foresee a love-hate relationship with the Orlesians for me. I like the pomp and political intrigue, but I hate snobbishness.
My plan is to attend their parties, wear their pretty dresses and masks, dance in their ballrooms, eat their cheeses, get all the gossip and then politically outmaneuver those smug bastards and leave them to deal with whatever mess comes of it.

It's intriguing and probably quite fun to take part in for an evening but it's all too shallow and mean girl-esc for me to want to be a part of that sort of culture. My Inquisitor will likely roll her eyes and get right back to causing scandal and not giving a **** about how the nobles perceive her/the inquisition.
If i can't make atleast 1 orlesian (preferably several) faint by doing something wildly innapropriate i will be dissapointed.

Indeed, this was to be expected given how closely it's tied to the new game... and the spoilers that already appear in the Web site's timeline. At least they waited this long! LOL

This is pretty much how I feel about Orlais at the moment, even though I try to stay neutral with these sort of things because I may create a character who likes intrigues political schemes and is snobbish him/herself,I can't help but having a soft spot for all things Fereldan.
At the end of the day,It's my warden's and Hawke's home not to mention how many hours I spent, trying to save it from the blight.

Orlesian society seems copied word for word from 18th century court life in France, so that's probably why I love it. It reminds me of Liaisons Dangereuses or the pithy sayings of La Rouchfic... *googles* La Rouchefoucauld
I don't know a great deal about that era, but I love the intrigue. I also always loved fantasy novels that centered around court intrigue. One of my favorite novels as a girl was Summers at Castle Auburn, which takes place almost entirely at court.

Part of why I prefer Ferelden to Orlais is how down to earth the Fereldans are compared to the Orlesians, who seem to be all up in the clouds and oblivious to how insufferable they come across to everyone else.
I'm interested to going to Nevarra, as I imagine the Nevarrans are like Fereldans, only far more ruthless and pragmatic.
But my heart will always lie with the Free Marches. It's not the richest, nicest, or easiest place to live in Thedas, but it seems to be one of the more relatively "normal" places, where people are just trying to keep their heads down and make do with what they have. In that regard, it's got a certain charm to it.

If you exclude Kirkwall with it's paranoid templars and insane blood mages, then I agree the free Marches sound like a relatively nice place to live in,I'd also like to learn more about Starkhaven.
