I think there's something wrong with me. My first thought when I saw this picture was, "That's dangerous! Those shoes won't protect his feet!"
If Cullen now switched to left hand, I hope it doesn't mean his right arm was injured.
This was exactly what I wondered when you pointed that out. Maybe his right arm was injured (fighting Meredith? fighting Red Templars?) and he switched to his left.
An injury could be part of why he has an adviser role, too - although I think his leadership experience and possibly the fact that he's not as young as he used to be are sufficient explanation without that.

But he's younger than Cassandra, and Varric, and the Grey Warden Bearded God, and Red... I mean Iron Bull. He must be somewhere between 35 and 40, and this is when your skills are usually the finest
