Oh, I'm not saying that Cullen is ready for the nursing home or anything. 
Considering he's approaching middle age and has been involved in physical combat for perhaps half his life at this point, though, the injuries could be piling up, and a touch of arthritis could be settling in at that age.
Not saying it's true, of course, just that it's possible.

Pre-alpha doesn't mean everything is uniformly incomplete. I think the people in that shot look pretty good all around and wouldn't have any real issues if that's the way that they looked.
All alpha really means is "are all the things we want to have in the game now in?" It doesn't mean done, but it means "exists." So more polish and bug fixing will continue on as we push closer to ship
Did you notice Cullen's sword belt? It looks like he's wearing the scabbard on the right, which means his sword arm must be left. I wonder if it's true or just a glitch.

I haven't really looked at it so zoomed in. I can see all the little leather straps, and it looks like the metal bits on his shoulders are a different colored metal. I like!

Oh ok, I knew there was polishing in Alpha, I just wasn't aware of the extent. I'm more than happy with the way everything looks now. Thanks for all the clarification Allan! You're a very valued Cullenite!

The green is following the line of the fabric. It could be two different things, but it lines up fairly well, so I'm thinking it's all one ribbon-esque decoration. Also, I'm not seeing a pommel in the outline of (maybe!)Cullen's jacket.

I agree with you. I spent the better part of yesterday staring at that picture (while working on my celebration pic) and I think it's a ribbon. You can see it coming back out from under his belt in his waist and then drooping over it in a loop. I wonder if it's just decorational though.

Don't lose hope! It could be just his casual/ inside outfit. Sort of like Hawke's home jacket. And it's not really that decorative when you think about it. It has about the same amount of fabric as a "normal" templar outfit, it's just used in a different way (draped over the torso/ his sides) and has added shoulder decorations. You can see heavy armor underneath so if he removed the vest thing his outfit would be appropriate for fighting.

Templar armor has protection for lower body, his new outfit doesn't. And he's wrapped in this highly decorative and impractical fabric, and I think it would get in the way if he started fencing. Cassandra's surcoat looks like she means business. And Cullen from the war room concept looked more practical. I'm not complaining, I just get neerdy when it comes to dressing Cullen
True I forgot about the lower part of the armor. Still he has a lot of/ pretty heavy upper body armor for just an advisor. That thing must weight a ton so would he really wear it just to hang around the base? Then again it could be because he is a military person and they needed his clothing to reflect that. Maybe it could also mean that he does some fighting at some point perhaps if our base is attacked. It would be such a waste not to have him fight with us :/

I thought we had all pretty much decided/accepted that he will be an NPC. The Last Supper pic was kind of a good thing for me in terms of confirmation because I think the NPC LIs have a better chance of being bi
However, I think it is still possible that he will at times be a temporary party member; perhaps during his rescue / recruitment / whatever mission, and perhaps during a templar-specific mission. And also don't forget Skyhold will probably at some point be attacked, and he'll surely join in then.
When we're not in the base/ the same place as a romanced Cullen I wonder if we'll get letters from him. I always liked how Hawke got letters from all sorts of people and it would make sense for our advisors to keep in touch even when we are on the field. Maybe if you romance him then his letters might get some extra content etc.
It's a common misconception that armor weights a lot. I swear to you, you wouldn't feel its weight if you put it on. The purpose of armor has always been to protect without giving a fighter a disadvantage. Being advisor is awesome too, but him being a companion would be simply amazing! Taking him to all the cool places, hearing his comments about things we see. Hearing his battle cries (I think he had them in Origins?). Freaking out when he's knocked out. Party banter! So, yeah, while there is still hope, I'll be hoping Not a big deal for me.
