Crap. It is all back to where it was. Game is not loading again. Damn, what could have changed? I have updated bios and CPU drivers, DirectX, Videocard drivers, C++ redist. , PhysX, and tried to change some graphic settings, tried to start game with ME1 saves and with new character. ITs all the same. My hardware: Athlon 3700+ (2.21 Ghz), 1 Gb DDR1, Geforce 8600 GTX (256 mb). Windows XP sp3.
PS. Rinken its exactly the same as on your screen.

I think the main issue you are having is not that the game itself does not support a single core processor as much as your single core processor is not large enough to handle the job.

Let me explain.
                    ME2

PC MINIMUM System Requirements
OS = Windows XP SP3 / Windows Vista SP1 / Windows 7
Processor = 1.8GHz Intel Core 2 Duo or equivalent AMD CPU

a 1.8 Ghz Core 2 Duo processor is the equivalent of a 3.6Ghz single core processor for AMD the numbers are going to be roughly the same. So your 2.21Ghz CPU is maxing out and overloading during Cut scenes and heavy useage as it cannot handle the information the game is trying to give to you. I hope that was not to confusing.Posted Image

This is dissapointing.. I have 2.41 ghz, AMD Athlon 4000+ Singlecore I guess

I have dragon age and it runs fine.

Do I have to buy a new computer now?

Lags problems are caused by messed up video.
If you already can go through loading screen, but still have lag problem, here what you can try:
1. Start game.
2. Wait till "Press any key screen appear"
3. DO NOT PRESS ANYTHING. Wait for intro movie to load, watch it till the end.
4. DO NOT PRESS ANYTHING. Wait for intro movie second time and watch it till the end again.
5. Now when the movie is over and cursor loaded - press any key.
6. Main menu can lag, but when you load game - it should not.

I have trouble believing it, but this method actually got me further along. The sample game trailer that plays when you don't touch anything plays just fine. After allowing the trailer to play out twice, I started a new game and ME2 did not freeze immediately after the new game option, I got to watch the intro sequence, then was able to create my character's custom appearance.

Everything ran nice and fast, no hiccups, no choppy framerates. However, after confirming my choices, the game froze again on the screen that follows character customization.

Not prepared to shell out for a new mobo, CPU, RAM and PSU.  Going to pursue the no-BIK files option mentioned earlier in the thread.

EDIT FOR FOLLOWUP: replacing the loading screen BIK files makes the game acceptable playable for me. See more here:

no more info than not only does it "hang" with my variously tried BIOS settings including turning all memory error reads to "disable" and the boot sector virus scanner off it hasn't loaded past the menu screen for me either, in fact, I select a new fresh character "male/female" not an import, same result, flustered as hell waited a month and preorderd from Amazon.com got it today(26 Janurary 2010 at about 4:00 pm) shipped maybe last night.(not a market, from Amazon direct!)

Dragon Ages Collector's Ed works, Mass Effect 1 works, why not this? turned my heater in home to 62 farenheight and maxed the PC fans, no avail. Updated NV 7800 GS and SB Xtreme Fedality. use 1 AMD core, 2GHz(3200) and 2 GB PC400. tried clocking "limit" to 400, not auto 200/and up also CLKs to lowest setting, not auto. did NOT overclock as it hung enough. surfaced/defraged and cleaned up temp/local settings ect. Lowered game settings before entering game. BIOS at max update(K8Vdeluxe stopped support years ago) called Falcon NW single core, K8VD no support now. ect. ect. people who accuse are odviously guilty, not the party they accuse. like a good nieghbor, I am indifferent to their comments. I assume either 1 core is archaic or EA will/maybe update to correct this issue.

It's a temporary solution but you'll find yourself in freezings from time to time after small cinematics. All you can do is wait , quick save and quick load. :\\

For most folks that have the black screen at launch and then crash BEFORE any videos play, the uninstall then reinstall works. It looks like something in the installer is not correct.

The problem is in cinematic cutscenes. if they would release a patch to fix the cinematics people with single core processor wouldn't have any problem running ME2 because I could even run it on my junk PC with Celeron D 440 @ 2.0 on default video options rofl and I could play with 40-50 fps o.0, Im tellin you tis all in the cinematics.

The game crashes after selecting new char even with quadcore so I guess we have to wait for a patch. GG for releasing a game that hasn't been fully tested.

yep, I can run Dragon Age with maxed out glamour on my single core "arcaic"(and no AA) my PC had better potential than I thought. Full action with all effects and disiplins on screen at once. Same with all "these settings are for Next Generation PC's" type games. Bugs in Knights of Old Republic never got fixed for ATI video drivers(a supierior card everywhere else!) and I hated having the upgrade/downgrade/upgrade crapola then too! I hope we get this all hunky dorie before they "finalize" it.

I am in the same boat. I can play DA with no problems at near max settings. I can play Crysis at near max setting for crying out loud. This

I like bioware a lot. I have most of there game accept but MDK, Sonic, and Shattered steel. I understand wanting to make a great looking game, but many of the buyers cannot afford a new machine at this time but are willing to through down 50 to 60 bucks on there games. So, do you abandon the low end user or have a game with that can handle low end PCs as well as high end PCs?

Read the comments, replace the bad files. Worked great for me finished the game without bugs or freezing.

I bought a legal copy at Best Buy, it doesn't work on my PC. So I wish people would shut up about the piracy thing or Cerebus being blocked. That is most certainly not the problem. But I also have a 1.8 Ghz Celeron processor and know I am at the low end of the spec requirements. I'm going to try the unofficial patch, but if the only reason it can't run the game is the cinema; which I suspect is the case. This is incredibly stupid. If I can run Dragon Age I should be able to run this.

Used the "no-movies" fix and everything runs fine, even on my low end system with the settings nearly maxed. It's a great game, but since when do cinema screens have higher system requirements then fully rendered cut screens? This is obviously a bug and an incredible disappointment. While I try to support Bioware by buying the games they make and encouraging my friends to do the same; this was a disappointment after just finishing DragonAge...if Best Buy took back products such as this I would have returned it before wasting so much time trying to resolve the issue. This should have been an easy patch, just a matter of releasing the cinema screens in a different, lower resolution, format.
