On Rio where do you like to go to start the extraction wave (Wave 11)? It seems to me that it is actually simpler to hold the half of the map that has the LZ, especially if someone stands on the spawn point in the corner right across from the LZ.

I usually lock down the spawn that is right across from the LZ and let the other players do what they want.

When with a bad team I go to the box of shame area and stay there until about 30 or so seconds. When with friends or a really good team it's usually the center tower with an option to fall back to the box of shame area.

Pretty much this.

Box of shame till around 45 seconds remaining, then run like hell!
Unless I´m using the geth juggernaut. In this case, I will be on the medium section, or close to the extraction point, if the other players are nearby.

On Rio I spend extraction wave in the same place I do on every other map; wherever there happens to be the most things to kill ![]()

Happens very rarely with people doing that. But I think it's the best option, too.

I like holding the extraction zone. You gotta start there though or the enemies will.

To the extraction site, like a boss

On lolsilver or gold I tend to stay in the center. For whatever reason stuff tends to spawn on the LZ side rather than the box side if everyone is in the middle on extraction and there is some good RHA to take advantage of. If you start to get overrun or stuff does spawn behind you then fall back towards the box. Head to extraction at ~30 seconds. If it's platinum I hang out around the box the entire time before making a break for extraction.

In the area before the box of shame. I usually relax, have a snack, stretch, then run like mad!! My score is typically lower on Rio because I don't bother to kill almost anything on wave 11.

Rio's the only map where it gets really exciting during the extraction wave. More specifically, the mad dash everyone makes during the last 30 seconds if you were holding down the shame-box area. It usually starts with everyone pulling out missile launchers, then it's every mofo for themselves...screw reviving each other....I got a ride to catch! Love it ![]()

Yeah, I used to think that being on the far side was good, with the mad dash to the LZ at the end. But really I think spawn suppression on the LZ side is overall easier, and you have less distance to go to the LZ. The way the map is setup you can basically just keep the enemy funneling through the middle and if the team plays heads up, you should be able to hold them.
I started this thread because I dropped in a random game today on Rio Geth Gold and the host was unhappy that I stayed on the LZ side suppressing the corner spawn. Not that I care all that much at this juncture of my ME3 experience. I thought I would see what most people are doing these days.

Always run to the other side of the map and hang back, then make a mad dash for the LZ when the timer is nearly up.

I never tried that approach before. Actually, I never even thought of that approach...that'd be something I'd definitely try with friends. But since we're basically all mutes on PC, it'd be a mess to coordinate that with pugs.

This, though if I'm a mobile character who is fast or can charge or something, I'll zip around the whole time. Particularly around the...uhh, southern area? The area around the box of shame. Either around the box of shame or next to it with all those pillars. Useful for messing with Atlas.

I preffer to lock down the two spawns by the LZ but in pugs this usually isn't feasible because the other pugs see me head that way and then just camp extraction and don't come out to help with enemies funneling down the three paths (two platforms and center lowpoint). Then they get ticked at me for dying when I'm out of gel and they never bothered to gel the whole game, nor revive anyone. So with pugs I tend to put myself on that general half of the map to keep it clear but not so far over that the other players follow and camp the LZ.
