On Rio where do you like to go to start the extraction wave (Wave 11)?  It seems to me that it is actually simpler to hold the half of the map that has the LZ, especially if someone stands on the spawn point in the corner right across from the LZ.

I thought so too, but when I've tried it the other players have run around in the crates/pillars at the other end of the map, and the enemies have started spawning on top of me.

Wherever the enemies are. Those spawns aren't going to nuke themselves.

Box of Shame and I usually just watch everyone run to the LZ die over and over again trying to hold it. I then rush head over around the 30 seconds mark in style.

Yeah, I used to think that being on the far side was good, with the mad dash to the LZ at the end.  But really I think spawn suppression on the LZ side is overall easier, and you have less distance to go to the LZ.  The way the map is setup you can basically just keep the enemy funneling through the middle and if the team plays heads up, you should be able to hold them.

I started this thread because I dropped in a random game today on Rio Geth Gold and the host was unhappy that I stayed on the LZ side suppressing the corner spawn.  Not that I care all that much at this juncture of my ME3 experience.  I thought I would see what most people are doing these days.

I think this is one of the few maps where this is actually a viable way to go, if you have a halfway competent team. Usually when I play Rio (which isn't that often, unless I want to play a game with infinite grenades and am sick of White) we end up holding the back half of the map (Box o' Shame area) and then making the mad dash towards the LZ with 30 seconds left or whatever. But with the bottleneck in the center of the map, that can be difficult sometimes, especially if you're out of missiles.

Yeah because the map is so narrow, the 30 second dash on Rio can really get you in trouble unless you have all of your rockets left.  I tend to be of the opinion that two people holding down the spawns at the LZ on giant isn't a bad idea either but on that map what I do rather depends on what my squad does.

Around the box of shame until the timer is at 35/40s, then I run like a maniac toward the LZ.

Near the box of shame until there are 30s left.

The center area is an awful place, you can get surrounded by four different paths and get shot across the map by everything. Never understood why most people stay here. I don't use the box of shame either, but it's easier to play around the boxes and trick the ennemies in that labyrinth.

Usually on the far side of the map, dashing in with 30 secs left and nuking any big stuff blocking the way. With a good team, holding the LZ side while suppressing the spawn is a good option indeed as already mentioned above.

I lurk by the pillars, and like on most maps I'll always try to sprint back to the LZ so I cross the line with 1 sec to spare. It's generates a last bit of excitement to the game ^_^

Extraction area where they usually spawn, it is a lot easier defending a fort only than defending a fort AND running a gauntlet, especially with primes around  ;)

On silver I'd block the LZ spawns and hold that end, on gold I hold the boxes end, and then leg it with 30 seconds to go.

Crates or pillars and with about 35 seconds left we call a path out and missile as we go.

Amazing thread. All I read on BSN is how ME3MP is just too easy and it should be harder.

And then it turns out no one just camps and holds the extraction zone like a boss.

Bunch of wimps.

:D

I always try to be close to the LZ at the end of wave 10,or at least get there asap.I like to get in the corner opposite of the LZ and face the extraction zone , Screw holding the far side of a map that seems about a mile long, with next to no cover. And have to possibly go through the enemy, no thanks.

Always run to the other side of the map and hang back, then make a mad dash for the LZ when the timer is nearly up.

Yup. I hide in the crate maze, or the fenced area, and RHA all the things.

That's the only way to roll tbh.

......I dunno!

I never am smart enough to block the spawn by the LZ so I just kinda run around and try to stay alive til about 20 seconds, then I run for it.

Kinda like every other map.

Gah, why is everyone here so cowardly on extraction waves. Seriously, when extraction comes screw tactics and strategy, just get in there and kill all the things damn it :P

Well, perhaps if you weren't always being so cowardly I would have no need to rage gel in the first place

I usually lock down the spawn that is right across from the LZ and let the other players do what they want.

This is what I do too.  It doesn't matter what they want to do at that point, if they want to camp the LZ, run to the middle of the map and shoot stuff, or sit at the other end, etc.  Sometimes, I can sit on that spawn point and do pretty much nothing for the entire extraction wave.
