After seeing Amethyst Dragon's roof addition for the Drow tileset in HotU, I was curious to see if there was a similar tileset for NWN2. Surprisingly, I couldn't find one... although I may have missed it somewhere. Anyway, in my odd moments I did a trial balloon of a few tiles to see how it looked.

Here's a couple of sample shots. What do you think?

The texturing conversion was a little tricky, but I have it working now. Most of the textures are of decent quality, although the grill needs a rework.

I'm getting some moiré patterning from the floor tiles in the first image. Not sure what settings fix that; I already have the graphics close to maxed out.

This is a conversion of the NWN1 tileset, or a remake?

Do the normals have mipmaps?

It's a conversion.

You mean in the .dds files? I haven't been adding them, but I could give it a try.

It looks very cool indeed. It's going to be a useful addition.

On that note is it possible to have a small tile set of Adobe interiors. Plain sand walls and simple stone floors. I was wondering how I might do it with placeables but a small tile set would be better.

Yes that does help. Thanks. :) I need to go back and fix that on the Jungle Ruins set.

Yup, I can do that.

I wonder if using sandstone/adobe type textures from my tile pack (maybe the exterior desert textures)  with the barrow tileset would give an appropriate look. rjshae already set that tileset for retexturing and my pack supports it.

That might do it yes. I have not downloaded the tile set yet. Is it in your pack?

The wall surfaces wouldn't be smooth and somewhat flat like an adobe wall; there's a lot of curved surfaces.

Good, good.  Textures should always have mipmaps.  Otherwise, the engine can't optimise the texture memory/processing by lowering the resolution of textures that are far away, slowing things down.

Then I would very much appreciate a small tile set :)

I did not know if your barrow set was uneven or just had 3d textures.

This set is working out pretty nicely, which is a little surprising to me given that it was built for NWN.There are 2-3 decent-sized metatiles as well, including a drow temple. I'm going to go ahead and finish this off, in between working on other stuff. I cracked open the NWN editor last night and found several more tile sets that might be worth converting, such as an Illithid set.

Its nice to have a mix of projects in order to avoid burnout. :) Underdark, here I come...

For tonight's viewing enjoyment, I present several Drow placeables by Hinnish Pastry from the April 2013 CCC; here ported to NWN2. It consists of a bed, two tables, a chair, and a dias:

To me they look really nice. The dias texture is stretched out a bit, so I'd probably scale it down a little. :)

The surroundings are Drow tiles with floor tinting implemented.

Love that bed.  The table's nice, too.

Here's a little more eye candy and something I've been looking forward to seeing in the game: the Drow temple metatile. It's got a few problems I still need to fix, but I think it looks pretty decent.

I'd like to tear that metatile apart for placeables to decorate a normal cave.

Yeah that statue is nice. There's another, similar statue with the wall pieces, but unfortunately it is missing the back face. The mosaic texture is pretty decent as well.

Thanks, guys.

I'm with Tchos, the stair behind the dias is very nice indeed.

The drow items were a good find especially those chairs as the are not as specifically non human/elf/gnome ... etc.

Just a quick screen shot to show that progress is being made. At bottom center is a jail cell with a grating floor; to the top is a 1x2 metatile room.

After checking in the NWN toolset, I found out I had some of the textures lined up wrong. So those are all corrected now. The trickiest part is getting the mosaic floor lined up right. It's still not quite perfect, but maybe it's good enough. What do you expect from Drow slave labor?  ;)  Pardon the ghastly color combinations--that's just my making sure that the tile tinting works properly.

You know that certain neighbor who you wish would just move away?

NWN2_SS_050514_163025_zpsf14ff53a.jpg

Here I've added a little integration with the Dark Ruins tileset. More to come, if I can get a certain texture to work...

Okay, here's my addition: two web bridge tiles for all those creepy Llolth cavern adventures.  :bandit:  The stock texture could be better, but it does the job.
