Those tiles are going to look really good retextured.

Well, here's trial texture #1; hopefully you can see it okay. I changed the ceiling and columns to a nice marble block texture, which I made seamless, darkened slightly then tinted blue using the base tile palette. The floor and wall were set to the same texture as the remainder of the tile set, which will give it some consistency. It looks decent, I guess. The columns look more tree-like now, rather than serpentine. Any thoughts?

I like the floor, and the walls. I cant really tell about the columns.

Here's an earlier version that shows the columns and ceiling before I darkened the texture. It seemed too light, but perhaps I was mistaken. There was no remapping of the ceiling UV; it looked fine the way it was, at least to me.

Is that the same texture as the ceiling?

Posté 23 mai 2014 - 02:57
It's the same texture; the columns are just three times as dense. Guess I should scale them out,,,
Ed.: Okay, I just scaled the column UV map by 1/3 and it seemed to work all right. Here's a ceiling shot with the area lighting turned up. It's kind of eerie-looking actually. But I think I like it.

Or trying it with the normal ceiling texture in the gaps:

Looking at it, I think I like the first. It has something of a tree theme, with the dark blue parts as the sky, the columns as the trunks and the vaulted arches as the tree canopies. Very underground elvish... ![]()

I was struck by the same observation RJS. That set is so like an indoor Forrest it seems more elvish than drow in your textures.

Which makes it very cool. Now flip another texture to it that's all spiderwebbed, and you get something else entirely...

For now it doesn't sound like there are any significant gripes about the look, so I'll go with this and retexture the other tiles accordingly. But I'm going to redo this wall a little because I think the gold trim needs to be all along the top border between the dark marble and the blocks (so there is a better transition). Thanks for the feedback. ![]()

Yes, some glowy webbing would be really wicked. Unfortunately, I've discovered it's a little hard to map a web texture across a complex surface in a way that looks plausible. I wind up with too many spider threads ending in mid-air.

How is the NWN1 Drow conversion coming along? Did you start on the Beholder Caverns? I took a look at those and the Illithid Tileset in NWNExplorer.
I was thinking of trying to do some conversions myself, but I have forgotten so much about modeling... it would take time. ![]()

The NWN1 Drow set is all done. I was just going to see if I could fit in Baron's work, but the set was in a pretty early stage so I'm finding there's a lot of little tweaks needed.
I started looking at the Beholder caverns. For the first step I sort of committed myself to adding in the ceilings for all the tiles so they can use it in NWN; that's something I'll need to do anyway, so I figured I'd help out there.
I probably won't get to the Illithid set for a month or two, assuming I don't get diverted by something else in the meantime. ![]()
If you're interested, there's a ton of NWN models on the old and new Vaults that would make for nice conversions. It's just a matter of finding ones of comparable quality (to NWN2 models) that have the right use permissions. Or you could always do some conversions from sites like OpenGameArt, but that takes a little more work.

I switched the marble to the second roof color band, which is a vanilla grey. Below is a shot of the updated look. I was a little concerned that the ceiling might look too bland, but I guess it's all right. The module builders can always change the tint if they don't like it.

I've updated the set to version 1.1. This release includes the missing metatiles.2da file, fixes some texturing issues, and adds more tinting. Thanks go to Kamal_ and FaerzressSparkles for their helpful feedback.

Version 1.1: now with even more hideous color possibilities. ![]()
