I don't understand how this character can provoke such intense interest. Likely she'll just be like one of the advisors in Awakening or maybe like Gabby and Kenneth in ME2. You would think leaving her for last would bring home the message that she's not very important (and don't tell me "the last place is the place of honor" or anything like that because we all already know who the most important people in the inquisition are, and it isn't the advisors).

Honestly curious here.

I don't hate transgenders but I'd prefer all female romance options be actual women. Assuming scribbles is an LI.

agree that would probably ruin the romance

I think that's sad that you think that.

As much as I adore Cassandra, I feel she probably put a lot of thought into Cullen's position, let Leliana do whatever she wanted, and then added a more diplomatic or financial adviser as an afterthought.

I'm going to guess she got lucky or someone recommended Scribbles, because it doesn't seem like an area where Cassandra would know a good candidate from a bad one.

I don't think Scribbles is an afterthought selection, Gaider said she had a an almost fanatical devotion to the Inquisitor which suggest she is there because she believes in the cause, as opposed to be a random hired diplomat.

I seriously doubt, in that case, that she'd have been presented in the beginning at all.

Agreed. It's wrong undermining their gender identification because you don't feel they're a "real" woman in my opinion.

That being said, I don't think Scribbles is transsexual.

well seeing as she'll get about the same amount of content as companions, i doubt she'll just be there for decoration and only have a quest or two and with random bits of dialogue

A closer comparison would be Joker and EDI in Mass Effect 2, with three characters that roughly have their level of important in the form of Leliana, Cullen and Scribbles. It seems like these three advisors are going to have quite a big impact, otherwise they wouldn't be so frequently mentioned.

I think, "Freaks and Geeks" handles that topic very well with Ken and Amy's story.

Well, we don't know. She could be!

I'll ignore that for the time being and assume you meant biologically female, in which case... eh. It'd likely be revealed beforehand, so you can back out if that's a dealbreaker.

I don't care if Scribbles is a transgender or not, but I don't think there's nothing wrong in someone not being comfortable in romancing a transgender woman. The part about the women part might've been phrased better though.

I've not heard of it, but I will check it out!

She could be! I wouldn't mind it (and would still romance her if she was an option!).

Yes, enormously. As for comfort levels... while there are some who may need specific physical characteristics that not all transwomen will possess, being squicked by a post-op one feels rather ridiculous to me.

She won't. She has the same role as Leliana and Cullen, with the same budget (according to the devs) as the followers.
For what reason do you think they'll make one advisor less important then the others?
Edit: actually advisors seem to have a bigger role in the organization then the followers. On one level, they're more important.

We don't know if in Thedas there are post-op transgenders Though. From what I know about Mae, she's not post-op.

I know, that was a further clarification for more IRL matters. But if there was a way to achieve that in Thedas, it might have to do with blood magic.

Indeed. Unless the Qun are more advanced then we think (but I don't see them being interested in research this particular field).

All I have to say is the only way I'd find a transgender character to be awkward is if the first one we ever meet is a romance. It would seem a touch... sexualised, as though that feature is introduced solely for the purpose of romance and pandering.

But really, it isn't a big issue at all and it certainly wouldn't be a deal-breaker. Any and all genders should be welcome in this game!

I wouldn't be too certain about that. According to the Qun, gender roles are very fixed and specific - women for industrial and agricultural and artisan roles, men for military roles and both for religious roles. So perhaps if they identify a military prodigy who is 'unfortunately' female, they might show interest in trying to redefine her gender and try to shape her into being effectively male, so she is able to fit into the role.

It seems very much like the Qunari to bend and shape individuals to fit the Qun's vision, after all.

I dunno how the transgender thing came into the discussion but that would ruin the character for some people, myself included. We built a lot of interest in this thread yesterday so maybe instead of chasing people off with this particular topic we can switch to something else?

Wait, ruin the whole character, not just the romance?

Well, presumably from other players who try to explore a romantic path with the character. No way of knowing until release though.

Some people have their preconceptions, you can't expect to change them. All you can hope to do is just agree to disagree and try not to care about others' opinions on something as controversial as this.

One would think the controversy, or even the fact that it is controversy, is a perfect reason to care.
