I'm definitely hoping for something closer to Traynor than Liara. No, not a horribly awkward sex scene. But someone who was extremely capable and knew it and let that carry over into romance interaction. I want a partner, which is one reason I'm so excited by advisor romances generally.

I agree.
As a diplomat, I expect she'd have no obvious rough edges. She's smooth like a polished stone. She lacks obvious conflict or drama. There's little that seems extreme or out of the ordinary. She isn't a cunning assassin, a powerful warrior, or a flashy mage.
There's a humdrumness to her.
Which is a good quality in a diplomat, if you think about it. If she looked in any way threatening people would try to get rid of her rather than listen to her. It's the Inquisitor's job to be intimidating.

I don't know about ruthless, but driven certainly. The interview with the writer said that she is fanatically devoted to the inquisitor. That's one detail that caught my attention: she's devoted to the Inquisitor, not the Inquisition....
Is she going to ninja-mance us too? It would make sense considering who she is friends with...

I believe that's Vivienne's bone to chew.

Leliana: "In this game you play a diplomat for a powerful orginization and the leader is available for romance. You just have a few conversations, do some sidequests, and this raises their affection. They may randomly cheat on you or bug out and act like they're not your LI. Ignore that. Hopefully BioWare will release a patch to fix it."

I believe that's Vivienne's bone to chew.
With Vivienne it seems like it's on the surface.
But Josephine is a diplomat. An honest woman, perhaps, but one sent abroad to lie for her country. She seems nice, but that's kind of her job - and the rest of her job is more or less to find the right levers to pull on people.

Yep. That's what happens when you hover in the higher spheres of society: being genuine and honest is foolish at best and suicidal at worst. There's no being happy up there. You're too busy trying to stay there.

I'm really not worried that Josephine will be a boring. Varric and Aveline were both pretty normal, and they are my favorite characters in DA2. And she's written by Sylvia (loved everything she wrote in ME3).

Like i said before i like Josie the way she is now and i appreciate that she not another character to fix up , straighten out or toughen up. She seen like the only one without any visible issues and that is what makes her special across our madhouse called Inquisition. At least one person out there doesn't therapy.

Traits, like her sexy accent and alleged adorableness, will probably only be properly conveyed when we actually see her in action.
Confirmed adorableness. Both Patrick and Allan have called her such. ![]()

I think it was in the romance thread (can't remember), but one of the Devs said that the advisors will have 'keep banter'. Meaning they will walk around Skyhold and talk to each other and various NPCs. Gonna have some eavesdropping to do!
Here is what they said on the matter so far.
It's worth noting that the advisors do have what we may as well call "stronghold banter." They banter with each other and NPCs, reflecting their relationships and reactivity. You'll have plenty of opportunity to be around them to hear it.
It's different, because of other features we'll be talking about soon. Plus we were already abusing things in ways tech didn't quite expect. We want them talking as much as you guys.
You're not traveling as a party at the time, so there are logistical blah blah concerns you don't need to care about and I can barely explain. I came up with a reasonable workaround that lets everyone communicate in a way that makes sense for the setting. You'll know what people think of each other.

Well, pulling peoples levers certainly isn't very nice.
But I may be placing too much emphasis on what I think would be interesting, and what I think makes a good diplomat

I'd say pulling people's levers is nicer than killing them. Which is what the other two advisers and all the companions are quite good at doing.

From her interview on her diplomacy:
[DA]: As a noblewoman, she seems to bring a different set of skills to the Inquisition. What is her primary area of expertise?
[SF]: Diplomacy. Josephine has worked for years as an ambassador in the royal courts in Thedas. She’s very familiar with Orlesian politics, which comes in handy. She’s an excellent mediator and speaker. Crucially, she knows just how hard it can be to change people’s minds, and how much someone’s ego is tangled up in being “right”. Josephine prefers to gently steer people into agreement whenever possible, but she’ll take a stand when needed. There’s occasionally an iron fist beneath that velvet glove.

Vivienne ruthlessly seeks personal power.
One of these fits the connotations of 'ruthless' and one really doesn't.

I believe Sylvia was the one who took Liara from hapless architect who fainted when she touched your mind to the Shadow Broker. I am not worried.
That said, she may butter us up a bit.

I agree ruthless doesn't fit, but her character should be consistent with a capable diplomat. She shouldn't turn into a stammering or worshipful fool around the Inquisitor, for instance.

Ruthless means you lack compassion and are willing to do things that bring harm to others if it serves your goals.
You don't see this as being somewhat incompatible with seeking peace and compromise? There's no dissonance there at all?

About the Josephine is ruthless thing, David Gaider actually said she was ruthlessly efficient.
Her chief weapon is surprise. Surprise and fear. Surprise and fear and ruthless efficiency. Surprise and fear and ruthless efficiency and an almost fanatical devotion to the Inquisitor.
And the comfy chair.
That is different from just plain ruthlessness.
