Yeah, I am more interested in DAI just because it's coming out later this year but the next Mass Effect sounds exciting and I want to know more about it. Maybe a teaser at SDCC or Gamescon.

As for that poll... wow Solas is the most preferred right now?! I did not expect that. Cullen I'd understand, but I thought Josie would be a bit higher up.

And we don't even know if he's a romance yet! I bet on him not being one.

My gut-feeling says he is, but I could be very wrong. I'm actually more hoping for Blackwall being a LI, even though I'm a straight guy.

hello, how do you pronounce "Montilyet"? ![]()
Sort of like “mawn-til-YAY”, but with a French accent.
EDIT: Sylvia corrected me—it’s “mawn” like in “dawn”, not “moan”. Which is less funny, but there you go.

Hmmm.
So since Josephine has a French-sounding surname, does that mean she has some partial Orlesian ancestry? Actually the name Josephine is French as well.

Maybe she's deep undercover in Antiva for Leliana ![]()

She just might. Noble families intermarried all the time.

My personal name is Greek, my surname is German and some of my ancestors have French (Leroi) and Latinized Frisian (Petraeus) surnames. Names by themselves are not that informative; people move around and settle in other countries all the time. Personal names are often subject to fashion.

I don't think there is anything special about her last name meaning her ancestry is Orlais. After all, that's not even how you pronounce it in French.

Oh, it's clearly likely to be Orlesian; The weird spelling of French Montillet is an example of the 'changing one letter of a normal name and presto! fantasy name' rule. But the pronounciation is exactly right. So, Orlesian descent is rather likely (though not certain, that presupposes consistency), but in itself it doesn't have to mean anything. It's even possible Josephine's family is staunchly anti-Orlesian, perhaps the descendant of an aristocratic refugee.

Check out the vid posted above. The French-speaking commentator pronounces it exactly the way Sylvia stated Josephine's name is pronounced.

It sounds like how David originally thought it was said, with "moan" instead of "mawn" as the first syllable to me.

I believe her Father might be of Orlesian ancestry, and perhaps he taught her about Orlesian politics and such. Just a guess, we can ask her that once we get the game xD

I still think they just chose it because it sounded good. Theirin for example certainly doesn't sound English yet is used for the noble line of Ferelden which is DA's England.

I'd imagine that she'd have to have at least some Orlesian blood in her, if she was purely Antivan one would assume she couldn't get too far into the political arena because she would be seen as a foreigner trying to power grab. If she's partially Orlasian then it becomes far more palatable for her to get to the stage that she's at in the game.

She serves as an ambassador even before joining us, so while she knows how the game is played she doesn't play it since ambassadors are neutral. They are only there to represent their nation.
I'd rather her be full Antivan myself. Otherwise it starts getting too similar to Leliana.

Maybe her surname is a derived version of the surname Montoya?

Yeah, I want to know her VA at least so I can look her up on Youtube.
All we know about her is she was fun to work with and gave Josephine a cool accent and a sultry voice.
