You can hear the pronounciation here:

*snip*

(five seconds in)

Actually, Montillet and Montilyet are not exactly de same, Montillet is "montiyay" where Montilyet is more "montiliay"; two "l" before after a "i" change the pronounciation

Yeah, I want to know her VA at least so I can look her up on Youtube.

All we know about her is she was fun to work with and gave Josephine a cool accent and a sultry voice.

Spanish + Sultry = Weak Knees

I am going to have to fight my impulses in every playthrough I don't romance her.

I still think they just chose it because it sounded good. Theirin for example certainly doesn't sound English yet is used for the noble line of Ferelden which is DA's England.

Linguistic consistency is not Bio's forte, true.

That was not the point; it is that apparently - according to Gaider & Co -  Montilyet's name is pronounced like French Montillet; the name is, in terms of pronounciation, exactly identical, Bio just changed the French spelling with one letter but kept the pronounciation.

And - I posted this some time ago - Carole Montillet is quite well known, and has participated several times in the world cup in Lake Louis, Alberta.

Fantasy writers (and DM's) do this all the time, taking normal names and changing them just a little. Most common trick is changing one letter - leaving them out, adding one, or just changing one. That's how you end up with names like Eddard or Jon. As for inspiration, heck, they take names from the news, a phone book, a pizzeria, a French alpine skier, whatever they like. Sometimes they even don't change the name at all, if it's uncommon enough. Even Tolkien did this.

Where did they say it was based off the French name Montillet? All I've ever seen was them showing how it is said via syllable pronunciation.

I've noticed the same thing. However, I don't view it negatively since there are already variations of names depending on language/culture (eg. Anthony, Anton, Antonio, Antoine)

I know that the "mon" pronounciation is different from french, however the "tilyet" pronounciation is the same, and that is different from "montillet"

I actually prefer Italian accents but this is pretty accurate for me nonetheless.
Anything Mediterranean works.

As an Italian major and someone who speaks it as a second language, I approve of this sentiment.

And yeah, the Mediterranean on the whole has the "alluring accent" market cornered.

That would be neat. Somehow the credits get leaked.

It'd be a totally harmless leak! But I doubt anyone would go through the effort just to get the credits leaked lol.

Is it just me, or does anyone else think that Josephine might wind up having shades of Kelly Chambers from Mass Effect in her personality? They seem to have more than a little in common (diplomatic, not gated by race or gender for romance, deeply invested in the importance of human interaction, adorable), and it wouldn't be a bad thing at all, because Kelly was fantastic.

I normally don't really care much for accents, but I do adore Australian/British accents ( I don't like male australian accents however.. they're weird). But if I were to guess, I'd say Josie will have an Italian accent.

I see what you mean, and wouldn't mind that at all. I love Kelly Chambers.

Yeah, the only people who would really even want to leak the credits is Bioware.

I second this, although I might add Irish and Scottish to your list. Living in a place that many people feel has the least amount of accent around I tend to drool :) over these accents.

Edit: What can I say I just got back from the dentist so I have drooling on my mind lol

The pronunciation of her surname in the game is close enough to French. The name Josephine has French origins as well. Both the character's first and last names are quite obviously based on French names, whether or not the character ends up having partial Orlesian origins in the game.

If Josie ends up being like Kelly Chambers, does that mean we'll get a sexy dance from her in our chambers? I hope so  :P

I imagine Josephine would have a Spanish accent, like the previous Antivans we have encountered before, including Zevran and Vincento; the two characters even used Spanish at times, including when Zevran would say "Si amor?" to his love interest, while Vincento exclaimed "maldicion" to Hawke.
