Most, if not all, the Thedosian cultures incorporate elements of several medieval European originals. For example, Ferelden has an England/France relationship with Orlais (where both sides play both England and France, amusingly), many of its people have English, Scottish, and Welsh names, and it has a political system that looks like a mishmash of Merovingian Francia and turn-of-the-millennium Alba.

So while it's natural to look at the similarities between certain parts of Thedas and "corresponding" parts of Europe, it's a mistake to progress from that to assuming that Thedosian kingdoms are Expys of individual medieval European ones.

I never claimed it was a carbon copy, but considering you have Antivans speaking with Spanish accents and using the Spanish language in their dialogue, it's clear that it's influenced by the Spanish in that regard, while the developers said that Antiva itself was modeled after the medieval Italian city-states. In fact, "influenced" is precisely the word I used in the post you responded to. I'm not certain how you made the mistake of assuming I claimed that it was an exact equivalent of the Spanish.

One thing I'm really excited about romancing Josie is that I know my PC's VA won't ruin the romance for me. The male British sounds awesome!

In Mass Effect (as much as I really respect Mark Meer) but his dialouges with Samara lacked any kind of emotion when trying to romance her (she's my favorite LI in any bioware game so far) (I could also say Traynor but I never really played a female shepard). (I also just watched this tribute video for her but it was for a female shepard, Jen. Hale was incomparably better)

I imagine Josephine would have a Spanish accent, like the previous Antivans we have encountered before, including Zevran and Vincento; the two characters even used Spanish at times, including when Zevran would say "Si amor?" to his love interest, while Vincento exclaimed "maldicion" to Hawke.

I'm hoping her accent is Spanish as well, or if not Spanish...Italian. Spanish has been used for Antivan characters in the past, but Italian could work as well IMO. In Thedas it could also be a regional accent of Antiva.

If Antiva is based on both Spain and Italy... does it have a history with elephants?

Hennibaal, the great Qunari warlord who crossed the... the... something something mountain range.
Okay I'm kidding. :P

I'm holding out hope for an Italian accent, but the most likely seems to be Spanish. And that's okay :)

Come to think of it, have we had any characters have an Italian accent in Dragon Age? The country that is inspired by them have so far had only Spanish accents if I recall correctly.

Yeah, I don't believe there have been any characters in the series with an Italian accent.

Nope, no Italian. So far i think we've only had the British accents, Spanish, American, and French.

personally i really hope Josephine has a Spanish accent like all the Antivans we've met so far.

And Irish for the Dalish clan and Welsh for Merrill. And the fictional accent of Cassandra. :P

I wonder if Josephine might get one to, like Cassandra and Merrill, make her stand out verbally by having an unique accent.

Just posted this in the Vivienne thread, thought I'd post it here too :)

Spoiler

My favorite part, minus the Josephine reactions, is Cole's lack of caring on his face as he sides with Inquisitor.

Also, lol at Josephine and Vivienne eating at their own table.

I always love how everyone draws Cole in their comics.

I really hope he's gonna be lika that in the game as well :P

Well, I started reading the Girl Genius webcomic... Can't stay away! That stuff is even worse than TV Tropes! (even worse when you combine them...)

-There were a couple general questions on companions and advisors; the gist is that new characters and returning ones alike were developed with an eye to making it feel they have a life of their own-- e.g., Josephine is carrying on with her own life and interests, "getting up and having breakfast" even if you aren't there to see it.

Josephine:

-- Night owl or early riser?
-- Coffee or tea? (And how does she take it?)
-- Substantial, carby breakfast to get her through the day, or light snack breakfast?
-- Enjoys eating breakfast alone or with others?
-- Gets dressed and puts her face on before or after eating?

I don't know about the other ones but I bet she's up late and up early.
Oh and she gets dressed and puts her face on before eating.

Is she one of those ultra-efficient people who can subsist on five hours of sleep a night, wake up full of energy, work throughout the day, and manage to look great even after being up for 16 hours?

I hate her already. :/

I'd say: Early riser, dressed and polished before breakfast, eats something light (big meal for lunch), enjoys eating with others in the morning, and drinks tea with lots of cream and sugar.

I kind of expect that, yes. :P

Oh and your speculation on the rest sounds accurate, based on what we know of her.

That's what I'm expecting too and I'll probably feel quite jealous of her abilities. But as long as her high energy doesn't manifest as manic perkiness, she and my Inquisitor will get along just fine. Otherwise she should avoid the Inquisitor who hasn't had her morning coffee yet.  :P

Her profile does say she doesn't need much sleep.

[SYLVIA FEKETEKUTY]: Josephine is a people person. She’s optimistic, she likes finding solutions, and needs barely any sleep to work at full capacity. She misses the view of the sea from her bedroom in Antiva City (though she only brings that up with friends).

She's definitely a fan of espresso, I'd say.  Little cups of jet black, lava-hot Scribble-power.

Is it bad that I already want to give her a hug and make her feel at home (because she misses Antiva), even though I haven't even actually met her?

Naughty naughty....

Bad? No. Worrying? Yes. ;)

Sleazequisitor: You miss the sea? Well, come with me and I'll make waves for you, sweety.

Josephine: *slap*

Sleazequisitor: Worth it!

Now where does she slap him? THIS IS KEY.

Luckily I'm still able to see Josephine as a fictional character (I don't like calling her a 'videogame character' as that term sort of degrades the creative process behind her creation). So, I'm still sane, right? Right?!
