Of course, it wouldn't be her if the dress did not have the ruffles in the sleeves. How else is she to protect her delicate arms. We need those if the Inquisition is to survive.

Oh? I assumed the ruffles were for storing extra quills, the occasional confidential correspondence, and a jewel-encrusted letter opener that looks suspiciously like a throwing knife. Her lovely arms are equally worthy of protection, though.

Here, this should make you feel better:

Actually, sleeve pockets are not that far fetched. It would be hilarious if she whipped out a quill and paper from there.

When I first heard about that movie, I wasn't all that interested, but then I learned Willem Dafoe was in it. He makes any movie worthwhile!

Idea: Josie leads the Crows and her legendary letters, which cause the strongest of opponents to quake in fear at the thought of even receiving one, are coded kill instructions to assassins hidden in their staff.

So Josephine is a Yakuza Princess?

...

I like it!

Advisorwise, I want to see Josephine.

Companionwise you're in for a treat because I'm pretty sure I see Blackwall and Solas in the teaser pic Cameron posted on twitter :

nah i think Yakuza princess would be more accurate since she was born into a noble family.

What difference does it make? *genuinely curious*

As I understand it, they follow different codes of conduct that have some similarities but many differences.  They operate in quite different ways and, uh, do different crimes.  I think.

The differences are mainly cultural and subtle, so hard to explain.

The yakuza sprang from the lower classes of Japanese feudal society. The Mafia from militias that turned to extortion.

Neither of them are proper nobility or even landed gentry.

I was just going by what was described in the link you provided, not the actual differences between the Mafia and Yakuza.

Indeed. It looks to me like the figure in the distance is wearing a large floppy hat.

Didn't Antivans have spanish accents? Or are there a few different accents? Just curious why Josephine has an Italian accent.

There are Antivans with Italian accents too. The one that immediately comes to mind for me is Ignacio.

yeah i'm curious about this too, having two different accent's implies they speak two different languages in Antiva...nevermind, just caught my own mistake~  but it definately implies a split culture xP

Bioware accents make no sense.  Do not think about them too much

Yeah... just... youknow... you can kind of take it as them making Antiva into, "every exotic accent ever" and that irks me. most of the accents for the different places have been sounding consistent for the most part (yeah, they changed Dalish but it's still consistently Welsh and Irish) even though you get people from Antiva or Orlais who have english accents lol which can be for a reason... BUT ORIANA COUSLAND. NO REASON GIVEN.

See, I did think about this before I made this comment. Dan Hildebrand is a versatile dude. I can't say I'd be confident in that accent being Italian. It does sound like it. I'd like to be sure, though.

I wouldn't overthink it too much.  Hoping for a detailed breakdown as to why people speak with particular accents, as opposed to them being used simply to provide some flair, is a risky venture IMO.

Unless a writer wants to interject to countermand this, my understanding is that the people of Thedas tend to all speak the same language.

Most of them use the common tongue (or the King's Tongue as it's also known, that was invented by the dwarves centuries ago to help facilitate trade), but there are native languages among the people from where they came from: Elvish is spoken by the Dalish, Tevene is spoken in Tevinter, Orlesian is spoken in Orlais (and I'm wondering to myself if the player will actually encounter anyone speaking Orlesian, which could be French), Ander is spoken in the Anderfels, Antivan is spoken in Antiva, and Qunlat is spoken by the Qunari. Gaider mentioned the Tevinter speaking Tevene in the Fenris thread, but the Dragon Age tabletop RPG mentions some of the others.

I do agree with Lucius Glitterius that as the conflicting accents of Antiva are a little... off, to me.

Fair enough.

I'll openly admit you likely follow the lore of the game a lot more closely than I.

My point was more that analyzing it from the context of how the accents developed on Earth may not bear much, if any, fruit.  As for Orlesian being "French," wouldn't that be somewhat equivalent to Ferelden being "English?"  Do you think it would work as well for a player that played the game natively in French (a language we support both for text and audio)?

I think that you're right, it's likely not comparable. As for Orlesian, I'm honestly not sure how it would translate to for French players, as I was thinking it might be a similar situation to Antivan, where some Spanish words are used as a substitute for the 'fictional' language of Antvan spoken in bits by Zevran and Vincento; it was mere speculation due to Orlesians having French accents (and Leliana's VA being French), nothing more.

You just don't get any accent at all in the French version.

Zevran has no spanish accent for example .

But I'm pretty sure the bugdet for Voice actor for the English version and for the French version are not the same.

You just can't expect the same quality and having actors being able to have multiple accents etc...
