*sigh* Well, my plans for the Inquisitors who will romance her were shot to oblivion.  :crying:

Aww...that's terrible. Who were you planning on romancing Josephine with?

You were planning with Female Qunari, no?

What happened?

The backstories don't match the personalities I had planned for my character at all, so they are useless now.

I understand. I pretty much decided against being Dalish as well... Thankfully the back story I wanted for my human but was pretty skeptical about turned out to be a really good match to what I had in mind.

What Inquisitor did you want to use? Maybe there's still a way.

Do you mean things like what race race or what kind of personality?

I suppose personality. It was something to fit a romance with Josephine, wasn't it? At least that was what I understood. What is the problem with the current backstories?

:/ *hugs*

I guess the backstories don't bother me at all? Probably because I haven't done any planning about backstories and all that.

And I still haven't decided who I should use for a Josie romance. :P

I suspect all those who had made up even vague concepts for characters without knowing what the in-game backstories would be (and how they would inevitably clash) are in the same very large and very leaky boat right now.  It's sad, but sadly not unexpected.  Good day/bad day all round.  Even my "um... tomb raiding rogue?" concept barely hangs together any more!

Well, my first one was going to be a Female Qunari who wanted to show the world there was more to her race than the stereotypes, but being a mercenary like all Tal-Vashoth demolishes that.

You were smart. Or lucky. Or both.

Was it very detailed? Because if it's just that concept, it's easy to implement. Just take the mercenary thing as a job that your character doesn't want to do, but has to because there aren't many job offers for Tal-Vashoth in Thedosian lands. Maybe the conclave was an excellent opportunity to earn good, honest gold and save some money to do the thing she always wanted to! (whatever it is).

The job your character does to feed herself doesn't have to be what defines her. It might just be the easiest way she found to have employment, because really, how many Qunari bakers are going to set up shop in the local market? If your Qunari wants to show the world not all Qunari are the same, it's possible she could do so by way of conversations and choices made in the game. Playing in to the mercenary idea as having defined the character is following the stereotype, rather than seeking to subvert it. And I'd be very surprised if options are not available to be something other than rawr ruthless mercenary.

Yeah, I think it is still definitely workable (and its a nice concept too, BTW! I always love playing characters like that). A lot of it is going to depend on exactly how specific they are going to be with our Inquisitors' backgrounds and how much Bioware is going to determine what those backgrounds are without our input. I mean, at this point we don't know how long you've been in this mercenary company or exactly what you do for them. All a mercenary is is a warrior who fights for a paycheck rather than a nation or lord, guard duty fits in that and its a more or less respectable job, especially for a qunari who has few other options. What I'm hoping is either Bioware we'll leave the specifics of the background open to us to imagine whatever we please or we'll even have different options presented to us in dialogue, so each qunari inquisitor might still have a bit of a different background. We'll just have to wait and see at this point.

Honestly, I have totally forgotten to think about what the new background would mean for the peace-loving, diplomatic Adaar who I want to play and will probably romance Josephine with...All I've thought about is the consequences for my Cadash so far. I think I'll find some way to handwave somehow.

Well, imagine what the conclave looks like to a wannabe diplomat. So many people, envoys, ambassadors, the largest meeting ever held since probably the Llomerryn Accords.

I mean, if I were there, I would be impressed and want to be a diplomat too. Of course, my mercenary companions would laugh at me, but, hey, it looks more constructive than crushing heads and breaking bones. When the Inquisition is set up, I would keep asking Josephine to know more about it.

hah hah. That's perfect really, when you phrase it that way. My Vashoth mercenary will have just secretly harbored a desire to be a diplomat for years and this appears to be the perfect opportunity to realize her dreams...and then she meets Josephine and falls madly in love.

Not necessarily.

Maybe your Tal Vashoth had started to become disillusioned with the mercenary lifestyle, and began wondering if there was more to life than just fighting for credits.  Maybe the mission at the start of DA:I was supposed to be your last job. Que the veil tears, the green glowy hand, and the mission to save the world. Maybe that helps the Tal Vashoth finds something to care about besides fighting for coin.

Congrats, you're now Wrex in the DA universe.  B)

If my time playing D&D and Shadowrun has taught me anything, it's that you're not going to get very far as a mercenary unless you know how to negotiate. Josephine's line of work isn't all that different, there's just less bloodshed involved.

Not necessarily.

You can be a Mercenary and still want to be a Female Qunari who wants to show the wo... blah blah.

Qunari are large powerful humanoids, and the other races fear them. It's pretty logical to assume that they would be forced into mercenary work, just to survive.

Qunari gotta eat.

Becoming the head of the Inquisition seems like the perfect opportunity to prove that there is more to Qunari than the Stereotypes.

I think you are putting way too much thought into the backstories I mean they will only be mentioned a few times

so your characters motivations/personality can still change what if she always wanted to show the world that there was more to her race than stereotypes but

didn't get the chance (because she was poor etc.) and now at the peace summit after the explosion she gets

this power with which she can save the world

Sounds fitting with your ideas in my opinion at least

I just stick to personalities.   Personalities are easy.  Backgrounds are work.
