None of the Mass Effect, Dragon Age: Origins, Dragon Age 2 backstories allowed for headcanon, why do you people care.

Strong, thought out background by developer > shaky headcanon by player

that said being forced to be dalish sucks but I'd never play a knife ear anyway

I just stick to personalities.   Personalities are easy.  Backgrounds are work.

Pretty much this. To add to that, I'm more interested in who the character will be than in who they were.

...You know when they give these backgrounds there's still a huge amount of space left for headcanon. What do you know going into the human noble origin? Your surname is Cousland, your nobility and high ranking at that.

This is your immediate family and... that's honestly about it. There's a good amount of blank space. Just work with what you have.

Besides building a whole backstory without knowing what would be set in stone is... Not the best idea.

The fact you've never left that city? The fact you're brought up to understand all that political intrigue?

There isn't much room for background leeway, which is good.

As the other person said, personality, not background.

We should get this thread back to being about Josephine. I didn't mean for my problems to sidetrack it.

Maybe how will Josephine see the Inquisitors on the various backgrounds?

Isn't she just a nice person? I can't imagine the Carta backgrounds will be popular with nobles/diplomats though.

In fact I can't imagine Carta backgrounds being anything but evil tbh, lel

I'm sure she'll be a true professional and show Inquisitors of all backgrounds the same courtesy, but I can see her expecting more knowledge of intricate details from the non-mage Human PC, being from a noble family and all.

Good question. Since we already know that she's willing to romance Inquisitors of all races and she has a very diplomatic personality, I think she'll definitely be able to get along with Inquisitors of all backgrounds but it is still interesting to think of how she might respond to Inquisitors from different backgrounds...I'm thinking she won't get along too well with any Inquisitors who are an aggressive type, but those who have a more thoughtful, appeasing kind of personality she'll get along with and she'd probably enjoy helping an Inquisitor with a rougher background to turn themselves around, so she may have some real sympathy for, say, the Dwarven Inquisitor if they want to move on from their past.

I'm sure she will like that "electricity thing" the mages can provide.

I can definitely see her being the character that vouches for us if there is like a meeting between the leaders about what to do with us.

I'm wondering how she survives the DA version of the Vallum blast personally.

What was the Vallum blast again? I know it is in Mass Effect, but that's all I remember.

It was where turian rebels used a ship as a weapon, it went into FTL and impacted Vallum, it leveled the city.

Picture a several megaton nuclear device going off i suppose.

Ah, okay. I remember that now.

As for Josephine, the reason she survives is simple: The Inquisition isn't at the peace conference when the explosion happened.

That's what I think. The Inquisition was heading there but by the time they arrive everyone is dead except for one person: us.

It depends, to the other castes the Carta are a bunch of thugs. But if you're a Duster, working for the Carta is one of the few ways you can put food on the table. Things on the surface aren't much better, caste might not mean much topside but there's not too much in the way of opportunity for those outside of the merchant or smith trades.

Inquisitor: We could try it my way.

Josephine: The "Nice keep you have here. It would be a shame if anything to it." tactic doesn't really work with the nobility.

Pity about all the Templars.

I doubt more than a small percentage of them were there. And I bet your boy Lambert, if still alive, refused to go.

But I agree, it's sad that those who wanted peace on both sides are wiped out, but then that's kind of the point huh.

perhaps she may have heard of a rogue or Warrior Human, or at least their family? A mage was probably too out of the way.

I think she may be ...cautious? of the Qunari Quizzy she knows they are a mercenary and may be mentally prepared to "butt heads" lol

She doesn't seem too snobish and a carta thug can still bargain just a different kind, and from the sounds of it dwarves are mostly smugglers. It could go either way.
And Josephine seems like she would be clueless about Elves on the most part, especially Dalish, also up in the air?

Actually, see may have some mixed feelings on the Dalish since the ones in Antiva are really hostile to outsiders. But I expect her to see us as a person rather than as part of a group.

From a really well done prompt about what Solas sees in the dreams of the companions:

"Josephine’s is a ball.  She feels free when she dances and is spun round and round.  Sometimes Solas is her dance partner, and for a brief moment he feels the fleeting glee of a perfect spin."
