Es is Unglück

Es ist nichts als Schmerz
sagt die Angst
Es ist aussichtslos

Es ist leichtsinnig

Oh hey, I suppose actual discussion of our choices is going on here a little bit. I should dabble. Discussion trumps all. Or even just... listing. Listing is also good.
I chose Thomas Campion's "When To Her Lute Corinna Sings" for its depiction of a woman who helps shape worlds through sorrow and joy. From what I've gathered of Josephine via reading, hearing, seeing, she seems intensely aware of the hardships of Thedas, but possessing of a kind streak and romantic heart diplomatic enough in and of itself to melt armies wayward of their march if necessary. "Her voice revives leaden strings," shining light on rough tides. "For when of pleasure she doth sing, My thoughts enjoy a sudden spring," as her ability to defuse a situation shall be emblematic of her approach as well as my own.
"But if she doth of sorrow speak, Ev'n from my heart the strings do break." Leliana befriended her; surely she must be wise. And so surely she is aware of what it takes to accomplish her goals. And through that sharp diplomatic tongue no doubt she can bend kings to realization and more forcefully dissuade their kingdoms from acts of foolish infighting.
Lastly, I find the imagery of Josephine in such musical metaphor quite fitting. Again, it's that connection with Leliana, almost as though the bard is singing the words herself.

If any poet is to win a Dragon Age related poetry contest it should be a Thedosian poet, so my humble entry is the bad poet who so valiantly yet unsuccesfully attempted to woo Isabela.
Your eyes are like bumblebees, flying into the window of my soul.
Your lips are like the wings of sparrows. Red ones. With no feathers.
Oh, speak! And send the plucked wings of your lips soaring.
Brings a tear to my eye every time.

Maybe Burns, I like it because it displays a tenderness and is about love growing greater over time and distance, and it is a poem that can be sung to traditional ballad music as well.
O my Luve's like a red, red rose
That's newly sprung in June;
O my Luve's like the melodie
That's sweetly played in tune.
As fair art thou, my bonnie lass,
So deep in luve am I;
And I will luve thee still, my dear,
Till a' the seas gang dry:
Till a' the seas gang dry, my dear,
And the rocks melt wi' the sun;
I will luve thee still, my dear,
While the sands o' life shall run.
And fare thee weel, my only Luve,
And fare thee weel awhile!
And I will come again, my Luve,
Tho' it ware ten thousand mile.
Scots translation= fair-beloved, bonnie lass-beautiful lady/girl, gang-going, a'-all, o'-of, though it ware-although it is, weel -well, wi'-with
or maybe E.A.Poe
I like this one because it talks about the woman he loves being like a river and to me that brings up images of purity, free spirited and sometimes fierce, elegant and beautiful and shows the person that loves her as being unsure about how he should approach her yet yearning for her, forbidden love maybe.
To the River -- By Edgar Allan Poe 1. Fair river! in thy bright, clear flow Of crystal, wandering water, Thou art an emblem of the glow Of beauty- the unhidden heart- The playful maziness of art In old Alberto's daughter; 2. But when within thy wave she looks- Which glistens then, and trembles- Why, then, the prettiest of brooks Her worshipper resembles; For in his heart, as in thy stream, Her image deeply lies- His heart which trembles at the beam Of her soul-searching eyes.

Woah, I just saw the announcements: Blackwall for the ladies and Cullen doesn't go for Dwarves or Qunari. A good part of the forums are going to be down in the dumps for the next few days. I'll stay safe here in the Josie thread.

For some reason I felt like I needed to change my signature tonight.
It's weird. I'm pretty indifferent about every romance except for Josephine, so it's an odd experience to read all of the reactions on the various romance announcements.

German and English, but not Italian poetry? Maybe some by Petrarch would be nice for Josephine:
Era il giorno ch'al sol si scoloraro
per la pietà del suo factore i rai,
quando i' fui preso, et non me ne guardai,
ché i be' vostr'occhi, donna, mi legaro.
Tempo non mi parea da far riparo
contra colpi d'Amor: però m'andai
secur, senza sospetto; onde i miei guai
nel commune dolor s'incominciaro.
Trovommi Amor del tutto disarmato
et aperta la via per gli occhi al core,
che di lagrime son fatti uscio et varco:
però al mio parer non li fu honore
ferir me de saetta in quello stato,
a voi armata non mostrar pur l'arco.
Translation:
It was on that day when the sun's ray
was darkened in pity for its Maker,
that I was captured, and did not defend myself,
because your lovely eyes had bound me, Lady.
It did not seem to me to be a time to guard myself
against Love's blows: so I went on
confident, unsuspecting; from that, my troubles
started, amongst the public sorrows.
Love discovered me all weaponless,
and opened the way to the heart through the eyes,
which are made the passageways and doors of tears:
so that it seems to me it does him little honour
to wound me with his arrow, in that state,
he not showing his bow at all to you who are armed.

You know, us Scribblers used to complain about how we got everything last regarding Josie's character: we found out her class, name and role later than any of the other characters, but we found out everything almost at once. Her portrait, character profile, name and romance availability came out all in close succession.
Now I kinda feel bad about complaining since so many people got sucker punched by those surprise announcements.
Still, part of me is glad that none of the gay/bi options are race gated.

I'm mostly indifferent on them all simply because I don't feel like I should feel otherwise until I play the game myself and get a handle on who they are, or in the cases of Cassandra and Cullen, who they are as of circa 9:41. (Or so. Ish. Right? Something like that.) But generally, I can be colored intrigued. I look forward to getting to know them all and seeing what I think of the in-game. This is also the first BioWare game I'm going into at launch that features swarms of new romance options, so it's a fun experience. I got into BioWare not long after ME2 came out, so I was obviously around for all the ME3 hype, but being that it's ME3, there weren't many new announcements in that department.
The exceptions have been Josephine and to a slightly lesser extent Sera. Somehow I've broken my rule of reserving any real reactions until my Inquisitor meets these people. Something about both women is quite instantly captivating to me.

Which seems to be the wisest thing to do. Most of the complaints I have seen center around the fact that people build expectations out of thin air, and then become angry that a character doesn't meet their expectations in some way. As a fan of BioWare's work first, but an avid gamer second, it sometimes irks me to see people complaining about romance options when most games don't even feature romance in the way BioWare does. Of course, BioWare should grow in the romance-department, but what some people want just has me a little annoyed.
May just be that this is the first BioWare game I'm closely following here on the BSN before it comes out. I too got into BW games after ME2 came out, on the PS3 to be precise, but somehow I skipepd the ME3 hype. I never even got that game until a few months ago, when I bought the entire trilogy for PC, which likely has to do with all the negative backlash surrounding its ending, and I finished my first playthrough of the game last week.
But to get back on topic, I feel like Josephine just can't disappoint me in terms of expectations. Call it a hunch.

We haven't had an innuendo storm in far too long here. So, here we go!
When DAI comes out, I will:
Go fishing for pearls in the Gulf of Montilyet.
Scale the Josepeaks.
Play the Antivan bongo drums.
Snack on carpaccio
Shuck some oysters

Yikes, I missed this somehow. They made some bizarre choices for gating romances this time around...Really thought they last two were going to be a bi Solas and bi Viv. I'm so glad everyone who wants can get Josephine at least. It almost makes it feel like not getting Varric at all is not so bad really.

From poking around the forums, I learned that Solas and Cullen were late additions to the romance pool, which is why they are gated so heavily. The one year delay allowed for them to be added in. The Cullenites are not complaining too much in light of that fact. They almost didn't get him at all!

I'm being a bit paranoid right now, so I do want to clarify that I have absolute sympathy for people who are currently disappointed in the latest romance reveals. I don't want to belittle their sadness and frustration (so long as they aren't attacking other fans), so I do apologize if I seemed a bit glib there. There is a lot of sadness right now, and I do hope that a few fans can perhaps find some joy in here.
If any fans decide to romance Josephine now as a result of today's announcement, I hope you love the romance. I'm biased, but it's really, really wonderful.
