But on the subject of Dolce Stil Novo, YES. Dante got his start in love poetry, and didn't really get to working on La Divina Commedia until after he was exiled from Florence iirc. Prior to that, he wrote a lot of poetry about his lady love from afar/muse, Beatrice Portinari, who he totally met like twice and fell in love with at first sight. A lot of poetry from that period/style was inspired by these poets seeing a very beautiful woman on the street and basically writing a bunch of poems about how much he loves her even though they didn't talk to each other at all. There's a very creepy element of objectification to the style—sometimes they would get really angry and write about the women purposefully shunning them, and it's like, dude, Petrarch, you saw her on the street, stop being weird about her veil and trying to be the grass that she's resting on. You're weird. But it's still beautifully written, and the intense longing and introspection of the style would appeal to her greatly, the weird problematic elements less so. I feel like Josephine (particularly as a bi woman) would enjoy a Thedosian Stil Novo that was less male and heteronormative, and instead focused on all expressions of passion regardless of sexual orientation and gender identity. That's my headcanon.

 

Anyway. That's just me spitballing about a character I play in a video game and not something that was explicitly told to me by Sylvia or anyone else, so don't take it at face value. This is all just a big TL;DR about courtly lovey sigh sigh poems because I think she'd dig some of the Italian stuff I read at university XD

Hmm, it's certainly fine if you want to leave this thread so that people feel comfortable discussing Josephine without you looking over their shoulders. However, if I may say so myself, I'd love it if there were a thread we could post to once the game comes out where we could ask questions or get your impressions directly on certain parts of the game. Many of us here on the board operate on a limited travel budget- I live in the middle of the country, and getting to one of the major cons, generally held on one or the other coasts, is usually not in the cards. Many of us also congregate here because we don't use other outlets like Tumblr or Twitter or Facebook (which is why I really appreciate you posting codes directly to the thread earlier. Even though I didn't get one, it made me feel like I had an even shot). As a result, I personally have rarely had the opportunity to ask part of the producing or acting team the questions that occur to me halfway into the 12th giant spider fight, or the rousing pep-talk.

 

With that in mind, if you find yourself willing and able, please do consider having a place where people like me can ask questions, though I would, of course, completely understand if you preferred not to.

Aww, we love having you here! It's rare to see a voice actor so engaged in the fandom and community as you, and it's great. It elevates this already-awesome thread to greater heights because of that, and that's me not even meaning the insane amount of duck-related posts that I've totally had enough of and never want to see again because they're so not-awesome - I am joking, hint hint.

But I do see your point. So here's an idea: when Inquisition comes out we split the thread into two. We have Josephine-Discussion/Love-And-Some-Occasional-Criticism-Though-Mainly-On-The-Way-Others-Treat-Her-thread on the one hand, and on the other hand we have Awesome-Allegra-Clark-And-Josie-Fans-Virtual-Meetup-thread. How about that?

Not that we know of, no. I did a quick search on both Google and Tumblr and found nothing, the Dragon Age site also has no new images. Guess we'll have to wait on this one a little longer.

I wonder how much exposure Josephine has gotten with Dalish, Dwarven, and Vashoth, or whether the non-human protagonist who becomes Inquisitor will be the first time; I wouldn't be surprised if there's been some contact prior, since Antiva is supposed to have at least one clan of Dalish in Antiva City, there is likely be a dwarven presence in Antiva, and there are Qunari in nearby Rivain (and perhaps Tal-Vashoth have reached Antiva upon leaving the Qun).

I am guessing that there has been some exposure, which would make more sense from a developer's perspective as you can't have conversations with one race of Inquisitor be vastly different from another. But not a lot, to still give that feel that there's a cultural difference here. It'll be interesting to see exactly how much within the romance development changes based on race, be it limited to dialogue or even the way Josephine might communicate with an Inquisitor during romance scenes. Though as previously said, I don't think variation will be that high.

My concern with the Josephine romance is that it spreads to different genders so it might not be as focused or nicely touched as, for example, Cassandra's who is only into males.

 

Like, for example, Cassandra say things which would appropriately fits for female-male romance because she is meant for straight. But for Josephine, she is in both genders so her comments or talks maybe more unisex instead of male oriented or female oriented and therefore less captivating...

 

IF they didn't write and voiced lines for different genders of course.

I think I should move to a different timezone. The thread is always more active when I'm asleep. There are more codes then, too. Or is this on purpose? A conspiracy against me? What, me, paranoid? Pffff....
