Just that they are old friends.

Personally I am headcanoning that they met as young children when Josephine's mother brought her on her trips to Orlais and met with Lady Cecillie. So why those two talked, Leliana and Josephine would play. :)

Josephine: Let's play a game, Leliana!
Leliana: What shall we play?
Josephine: Here. You climb in this wardrobe and be as quiet as possible. If I hear you, you've lost.
Leliana: *does so*
Josephine: *reads her book, eats all the cookies, drinks tea*
Josephine: *finishes book and opens the door* Okay, the game is over. You've won!
Leliana: Yaaah!

It doesn't have to be a negative manipulation.

For example, sooner or later the Inquisitor will have to deal with courts and candidates to the throne. Or that rumoured ball quest with an assassin included. Josephine looks like the prime suspect to get us an invitation. Not to talk about giving quests. After all, it shouldn't be always General "Inquisitor, we need to take that keep" Cullen or Spymaster "Inquisitor, you need to kill that enemy" Leliana.

Of course, if there's a ball, maybe the Inquisitor could take Josephine to it? I liked that in the Citadel DLC of ME3 you could take whoever you wanted to the casino party, including Shepard's love interest.

Hmm. Yeah, okay, good point!

And I'd love that.

I think in the writer interview you can get clues about the friendship route, also "Finding a voice for her, finding the ways she fit into the world. Writing the scenes where she becomes friends with the PC."

I am actually kinda hoping for her to have a more manipulative side, since she sounds like an ENFJ. It would be funny for the PC or companions getting in situations that she puts in motions.

I'm not sure 'manipulative' is the right word since it implies a lack of scruples and controlling people for selfish purposes. I think a better word would be 'persuasive'.

From the writer's interview:

Crucially, she knows just how hard it can be to change people’s minds, and how much someone’s ego is tangled up in being “right”. Josephine prefers to gently steer people into agreement whenever possible, but she’ll take a stand when needed.[...] She prides herself on having the Inquisitor’s back (for example, making deals with the right people, or heading off power plays by other nobles) so the Inquisitor is free to make the decisions that actually shape the world.

That doesn't sound like someone who would stir up trouble to further her own ends. If anything, she sounds like she'll have to clean up the messes we make.

And in comes bluedrake and perfectly describes why I felt 'manipulative' would be out of character without me even fully thinking of it in this way. I think I just assumed 'manipulative' as meaning the very negative sense of the word, in this case.

I just blame it on it being a Friday aftern- oh, quack. 1 AM on a Saturday-Sunday night, then! :P

I have an imagine in my head of Jose throwing a shoe at the Inquisitor.

That's what you get for coming into her room without knocking first.

I wonder if Leliana met Josephine during one of her many sexy-sexy adventures with my Warden and Zevran.

I think the only way to get Josephine's sexy adventures out of her is to steal her journal, or have Varric write one up.

If she's an LI and not Vivienne, I will explode.

If not, I'll welcome her with open arms.

I almost think this was my first post... it was on page 3.. way back when

I like Josephine so much more now :D

My second inquisitor was going to romance Josie, but I don't know if I can wait. Maybe they'll become my first playthrough. Or maybe I'll play two inquisitors at the same time...

Inquisitor: (rubs forehead) I forgot you're not fond of surprises.

Josephine: At least it wasn't my quill again.

Inquisitor: To be fair, I shouldn't have hugged you from behind while you were working.

Josephine: You know, "hello love" works just fine as a greeting.

Inquisitor: Hello love.

Josephine: Welcome home mi amore. (kisses Inquisitor)

Alright, quick question. What do you think Josephine's favorite flower would be?

I plan to romance her with my Qunari inquisitor. Though I don't know if it will be my first or second playthrough.

Spoiler

The Nardo or Tuberose.  Simple, elegant, smells fantastic (especially during the night since they're a night blooming plant)

I have these in my living room and every night their fragrance wafts into the entire apartment  ^_^

I know a lot of people in the forums are excited about the romances, but do you think that Josephine and the other advisors will have a meaningful friendship route? After playing ME2, I value what friendship dialogues can provide much more than before.

I have no doubt that she, as well as all the other followers, will have meaningful friendship routes.

I'm of the same mind. She sounds a bit too nice and helpful. Hope that she has some more aggressive attitude and a darker side. I like to think of her more as a fixer and less as a diplomat.

What comes to me as Scribbles favourite flower would be white lilies, even when they're often associated with dead

I'm going to disagree with that. It would make a nice change to have a character who is genuinely nice and who doesn't mess things up for the PC. I'm trying to think of companions/allies who did not cause trouble for the Warden or Hawke in some way and I can't really think of anyone besides Wynne (unless you count her lecturing as causing trouble).

As opposed to aggressive, I'd rather see determined and firm. We already have Cassandra to supply aggression. The key thing about Josephine is that she tries to get everyone to get along in spite of their differences. Remember that some of the members of the Inquisition will not get along: Sera hates Cole, Varric has trouble with Cassandra, Dorian and Vivienne don't like Solas, who reciprocates, and the Inquisitor him/herself may have a problem working with Cassandra and Leliana after they kept him/her prisoner and coerced him/her into working with them.

Josephine being aggressive would just undermine her goals of getting the Inquisition to work as a unified force.

I can see Josephine being sort of like professor McGonnagal, except more openly friendly.

I still think her "iron fist" moments will be like Bakara in Mass Effect 3.

I agree with this.
Though the interview mentioned she might get angry with Cullen. I want to see that :P.
Wait, where did they say Dorian has a problem with Solas?

Perfect! :D

I think people who want Josie to have a 'dark side' are afraid that she's going to be a doormat because she's nice. Here's another example of someone being awesome without throwing stuff around or even raising his voice.

For those not familiar with GTA 5, the guy being taken to school is Trevor: drug and arms dealer, murderer, cannibal and general psychopath.

Both Dorian and Vivienne are disdainful of Solas for having no 'formal' education. I'll try to find the relevant info, but it might take a while.

Edit: Can't find it. Maybe it's just a fan theory. Although I'm pretty sure Vivienne will look down on everyone. :D

Never thought I'd see a GTA V video here in the Josephine thread. Completely forgot about that man.

I hope Josephine can be that nice woman that doesn't necessarily have a darker side, as it would be quite refreshing to have such a character who is also close to the player, within a Dragon Age game... and I think that concept can work really well in this setting.

Rockstar can pull off understated badassery. Who would have thought? :D

But yeah, Josephine would provide an interesting contrast to other women we've worked with in previous games: optimistic without being naive and strong without being a battle hardened badass.
