Hopefully my Inquisitor will be more smooth than I am.
"Ma tendre demoiselle, la douceur de votre peau rendrait envieux un nouveau né. Votre beauté est telle que j'ose à peine vous regarder de peur d'être frappé de cécité. En vérité l'astre suprême lui-même ne posa son regard sur vous que le temps de vous revêtir d'une parure dorée."
How's that for smooth?

Spoiler
If you walk up to Josephine like that, there's a good chance she may be like:

Or she'll just think it's creepy, and do the classic 'backing away slowly'.

All this thread needs is Allegra(or Ms. Clark cause I don't know you like that and I'm from the south, ma'am) and sprinkle fairy dust like Tinkerbell...or something...

Tss. Philistine.
Well, to be honest that was part of my campaign against the other Scribblers to claim Josephine all for myself. Maybe I should try be more diplomatic about it, in honor of our Antivan gentildonna.

Seriously though, that kind of flowery language was in vogue in chivalric romances.
And shouldn't that be Bella donna? (yes, the toxic plant. It was used in cosmetics back in the day. As was lead. And arsenic was used in England as a dye. No wonder there are so many stories of insane aristocrats.)

I've seen gentildonna get translated as 'honorable lady'. I was trying to be nice to Josephine ![]()
Oh and yes, I know, but jealousy got the better of me when I saw what you were going to say to Josephine, as you'd have a pretty good chance with that, so I tried to dismiss it by saying she probably wouldn't like it. And to be fair, she probably wouldn't if approached with it at the wrong moment.

Oh? So you thought it was ok? (sensitive artistic pretensions were hurt...)
And there is no such thing as a wrong moment for sweet talking!!

Gentildonna = gentlewoman
Bella donna = beautiful woman
I hope this clears it up a bit. ^^

Indeed. Gentlewoman just seemed respectful enough
There's nothing wrong with bella donna, though. But it'd feel weird to call Josephine beautiful when talking about BC's 'smooth' comments, hehe.

Aye, I agree, "gentildonna" was just fine given the context of the sentence. ![]()
I wasn't trying to say you were wrong, and I apologize if it did come off that way, it wasn't my intention. I just wanted to clear things up a bit, I'm passionate about my language. My bad. ![]()

Oh no not at all. I welcome your comment, as I'm slowly trying to learn Italian. Mean to have a good grasp of the language before next summer, actually. So thank you ![]()

"My sweet lady, the softness of your skin-"
*splash*
"...would make a newborn jealous. Your beauty is such that I barely dare to-"
*splash*
"- to look at you for fear that I would be struck blind. The supreme star itself only looked at you-"
*splash*
"l-long enough to clothe you in golden fine- oh Andraste what is that awful smell?!"
I may have sunk to a new low. I do not apologize, for I like it.

Ah, thank you
I want to be able to speak the language when going on vacation to Italy again, as I love the country enough to want to go there many more times. Been to Italy about... 5 times already, 2 of which included a visit to beautiful Roma. And besides, a language like this is much better than the awful Germanic Dutch that I'm used to.

I have to admit, Germanic languages do sound a bit harsh when compared to others. I do admire those who manage to learn and speak them though, as I always found them quite challenging. I'm more of a romance languages myself. ^^

Ah, thanks.
With the French being posted I wasn't sure if it was said somewhere that her family was from Orlais. I wouldn't mind Leliana and Josephine having a conversation in Orlesian (French) though. ![]()
