Or the title could just be a hold over from when it was first used. Maybe they keep it as 'prince' regardless of gender or maybe they say 'princess' if a woman is in charge. It's hard to tell at this point.
Supposing Josephine is in line to inherit the title, does she actually want it? Maybe she'd rather be the 'power behind the throne' as it were. Let someone else have the big target painted on them while she lives the good life.
I must say, I don't know if this is the influence of TES's Daedric Princes, but a woman with the title of prince just screams 100% BAMF to me.
And it is an interesting question. Her skills as a diplomat would certainly make for a good, or at least stable, ruler, even if it turns out she lacks natural leadership qualities. But, she does seem at least somewhat naive at this point. Perhaps she doesn't realise how dangerous it sounds like it can be being a prominent figure in Antiva.
