Aww, Basement Cat, I wish I saw your post before I woke up my ill Languages friend so she could translate a word for me and then got slapped by my ill Languages friend for waking her up for translation duty. It wasn't even that important anyway...

Funny because I'm also a Languages person who happens to be ill. Coincidence? I think not! Anyway, i was having fun with a numerology name calculator and I put in Josephine Montilyet. Here are the results:

Santa is also an anagram of Satan. That is no coincidence either. *plays the Twilight Zone theme tune*
Oh and there there. I'm a bit ill too, but she's much worse than I am. Fresher's flu, ugh. I'm no Languages expert, but my B in GCSE French meant I was surprisingly good at translating most of that article without her help.

The "She said idealistic, persuasive and competent" I find this kinda strange especially the idealistic and competent part, mostly because idealism is about priority over ideas, values and principles outside reality which can make one very incompetent.

Since Josephine is suppose to be competent this means that maybe she sometimes does things that are against her moral code, which gives a certain human side to the character. I really want to see how are they planning to put that two qualities side to side.

Here is the whole interview translated:

Interview with Allegra Clark ruled in France for Dragon Age!
image.png

Very friendly Allegra Clark is the voice actress who has lent his voice to the character of Josephine Montilyet , one of three members who will support you in Dragon Age: Inquisition . Besides, if it is common to call this work "doubling" it is important to note that this term actually means "replace the voice of someone else." Now, here is the original voice Allegra, it therefore calls his work "voice-acting." In contrast, the French who will be responsible for VF is indeed a dubber.

Allegra Clark, therefore, will be the voice of our future diplomatic advisor in the Inquisition. Also known for his - excellent - cosplays Isabela (our favorite pirate in Dragon Age II ), Allegra is a true fan of the first hour, and he kindly agreed to give us some of his valuable time to answer our questions as well as those of our customer (s).

Questions Dragon Age France:
[General Questions & Personal]

Dragon Age France - Hello, Allegra, and thank you again for agreeing to this interview. How long are you a fan of the Dragon Age saga? What do you think of the two episodes?

Allegra Clark - I'm a fan since Dragon Age: Origins is out! Shortly before the game's release, I had read a gay friend showed me and spoke of LGBT romances in the game description of the story -. Representation and promises of [LGBT] - then had enough to convince me to try it. I bought the game when I went home for the winter holidays, and I am immediately fell in love! I am as much a fan of Dragon Age: Origins than Dragon Age II , although the latter has a slight head start because of the fact that the fighting in DA: O was not very nice on consoles. And I am extremely excited to see the mix of the two gameplay in DA: I for this reason!

DAF - In general, are you a fan of video games? What are your favorite songs, and why?

AC - I actually play video games every night - it's my way to relax. My favorite franchises are Dragon Age and Mass Effectto their stories, Assassin's Creed for its historical, Borderland for humor and gameplay, Kingdom Hearts for his adorable magic, Uncharted and Tomb Raider for their acrobatic and archaeological adventures ... I could still cite many others, but I'll leave it to those. I am also - and surprisingly - addict mobile games and puzzle games, because I think it is very appropriate to provide brief moments of intense fun without spending hours and hours on the couch.

image.jpg

DAF - We got to see some of your cosplays on Isabela (and which we enjoyed the Qunari Version), is your favorite character? Appreciated by you most about it?

AC - Thanks! Isabela really is my favorite character of the whole saga. In addition to its bawdy humor, I'm a particular fan of his insurance, and his impassive face of criticism of others. It's a very mature very mature way of seeing things, "Not very many people will not like me, then it seems to be that I am, haters gonna hate . "This is something which I I always wanted to incorporate my personality. The passage of the game on the Isabela friendship returns it to the notion of self-improvement, while remaining itself as it faces its own shortcomings. It fears its own, but she made sure to pass on. It was really interesting, in a video game, to see a woman wear such emotional burdens on his shoulders, and have managed to identify with it in the end. Inevitably, this means you answer yourself, and that's what makes it important to be fitting with who we really are.

[General and Professional Issues]

DAF - Question also asked by Florence, France subscribed to Dragon Age: Have you ever done voice-acting front, not necessarily for video games?

AC - Yes! I did it for a previous Dragon Age (independent game Omegalodon ), but this was my first real work of this kind for a video game. I worked for many commercials throughout my career - both on camera but also as a voice - and also for promotional / industrial videos as well as for positions presenter. Make original voices for video games has always been a career goal, so I was very pleased to receive this opportunity [to work on Dragon Age: Inquisition ].

DAF - is sometimes imagined - naively - that the profession is to speak into a microphone with a beautiful voice, but it is not too often that the voice-acting is a real acting profession in itself. What can you tell us about the voice-acting, in general, to enlighten us? What is the amount of work that represents a dubbing session?

AC - Here's the best way to explain it all: make voice-acting  request to transmit all that is going on inside yourself. Eg [scenario]: your eyes scan the room as you tend nervously to somebody you are trying to deceive, desperately trying to act normal. You want to bite the lower lip but you should not do it, and instead you put your hands behind your back, trying to relax your shoulders no matter how nervous tension therein. [Doing voice-acting] is to transmit all these visual cues only with your voice. In the case of a video game, a cinematic designer [= the equivalent of a director for a video game, ndt] will be able to place all these visual clues in the cutscenes, but the responsibility of the Voice actor is to make sure that all these details are already vocally.

Maybe your character through a humid jungle, he is hungry and hurt, but you [as an actor], you're in a room with air conditioning, as well as a bottle of water and an apple close. And you certainly go to lunch afterwards. Does your character is accompanied by someone? You, for cons, you are alone. At best, the lines of the partner of the stage you can be heard, but you also just hear the head [of the recording] read them himself. You need to use your imagination to fill the gaps and feel what your character feels, or imagine like him. Disconnection [with reality] can disorient the beginning if you do're unprepared, and so you can hear totally flat performance from actors yet you're used to regard as excellent (I will not mention any names, but you definitely need to know). It takes more concentration (and endurance, since the recording sessions are linked very quickly) than anyone can imagine until he tries it, but it's tremendously fun and rewarding .

[Note-off interview: to illustrate the words of Allegra, we can take for example the excellent Peter Dinklage ( Tyrion Lannister from Game of Thrones ), who lent his voice to Ghost , the companion of the hero of the video game Destiny , and whose vocal performance was considered disappointing by the public despite his acting skills globally recognized]

DAF - What are the prerequisites for making voice-acting? Will he schools, special curricula, skills?

AC -   I've heard of schools offering courses of training voiceover (my friend Sylar attends classes at the University of the Academy of Arts in San Francisco, where they teach their classes do the voiceover), but it is quite possible to get into the middle with general knowledge Actorat, you will have strengthened with a few sessions of training in microphone. You absolutely need to know techniques to the microphone! I also recommend you propose as voiceover in animation schools because it allows you to practice singing, develop characters and accents that bring you - even if they are not mandatory - you still give an edge, as I have seen it myself!

DAF - Exactly, because we are talking about accents and therefore language, it seems that you speak fluently the French language! A small personal note to our fans?

AC - Hello to all the wonderful French fans of Dragon Age! Thank you so much for all your questions, I am honored that you want to learn to know me better: D I hope you have a great time when the game comes out in November!

DAF - Apart from the French, what other non-native accents and languages you know? Have you ever lent your voice to non-English speaking projects?

AC - Alas, I stopped at the French and Italian. I've played in theater plays in both languages when I was in school, but never professionally. For a time, I wanted to learn Portuguese, but I never managed to perfectly manage the pronunciation! About accents, I had courses in accents and dialects when I was in college. So I can do the accent PR [NdT: RP = " Received Pronunciation ", the standard British accent], Cockney , Irish, German, and Russian, as well as some specific to American English accents. My natural accent is fairly neutral, but if I'm not careful, I can quickly fall into a heavy italiano American accent typical of New York / Long Island. And especially when I am with my family! Eyyyyy!

DAF - When Bioware contacted you, what was your reaction?

AC - I cried. I jumped over and I cried. I wish I could say that I had more restraint and I was more worthy than that, but that was not the case at all.

DAF - A Will it be easy to get into the skin of Josephine summer?

AC - Yes, absolutely. No Spoiler, we have several things in common that helped me to introduce myself in the shoes of the character. From the moment I spoke a little Italian before we started shooting (for that, I usually recite the listings of the Hellgate present in the Divine Comedy in Italian (song 1, verses 1-9)), it spent all alone.

DAF - if we ask you to describe Josephine maximum 3 words, what would they be?

AC - ONLY 3 ??? Goodness. Well, let's go with: "idealistic", "persuasive" and "competent." Oh, and "cute", too. I'm sorry, I must emphasize the word "lovely. "

DAF - How long did it took the dubbing? And how to organize a day in the studio? Do you have any funny stories to tell?

AC - I completed it all in about 8 sessions. I had to take flights from Seattle to go record in Los Angeles, so 6 out of the 8 sessions were grouped to minimize the number of flights to take.

The sessions themselves were held relatively simple manner. We were given a replica to be made by session number, and we plunged fully into it. We took a break around the middle of all replicas, usually for 5 to 10 minutes, then challenging ourselves to work. It was a very fast pace, and we had to adapt to the different shades of character voices and appearances of the game in question [the replica]. Once I had finished with the replicas of Josephine, I usually had a fewNPCs to play, so I had to quickly abandon Josephine and Italian accent to dive into what BioWare needed. It was fast, intense, and INCREDIBLY fun!

About funny stories, it's hard to tell without it breaking my confidentiality clause! I would say that at times, there were passages referring to previous games in the saga, and it took me by surprise by making me laugh. I guess these are the side effects when a fan of the franchise are hired;)

DAF - Have you met other voice actors, Alix Wilton Regan as? If so, how was the contact between the different actors?

AC - Yes! I met briefly Brian Bloom [original version of Varric, NdT] before my sessions of June. We only had time to say hello and shake hands before having to return to the cabin, but that was fun! Otherwise, if not, I have not had the opportunity to meet other actors apart from the few conversations I have had on Twitter with some of them.

Questions from fans:
via-dragon-age-keep-bioware.png
Via Keep Dragon Age, Bioware ©

Florence - I want to know how you were approached by teams Bioware?

Allegra - It is I who first approached. In fact, I met David Gaider [lead author of Dragon Age, ndt] at the San Diego Comic-Con 2011 and we discussed my work voice actress as well as my skills in various accents ; From there, I sent him my demos, which he transmitted to Caroline Livingstone [ndt: responsible for voice & producer of Dragon Age] to make him listen. She contacted me with scripts later hearing and the rest went fairly standard way.

Florence - What, besides Josephine, the character that you like the most in DA: I, according to what you have seen so far?

Allegra - I do not have the right to say "all", I guess? They are all really interesting and fabulous ways. I'm really looking forward to spending time with Vivienne, Dorian and Blackwall, although I feel a bit betrayed others by selecting only those! I am also a big fan of Leliana and Cullen, and since these are the two characters who speak most Josephine, I feel better about who they are. The dynamic between the three characters is really wonderful.

Melany - I was wondering, since you're half Italian and you speak French, and that Josephine has a French name and she just Antiva (which makes like a little piece of Italy in the game) do the developers have chosen you so that you can make a French and Italian flair to the voice of Josephine?

Allegra - The focus of Josephine is purely Italian. Speaking fluent French was more useful to the voices of several French stylish NPC.

Pierre-Marie - Which characters do you love / hate, and the event that was most striking to you in the game Dragon Age?

Allegra - I love all the characters in the saga, even when I want to strangle them - or even because I want to strangle them, exactly. I think one of the most memorable moments for me was to spare Loghain to then bring to Ostagar [via DLC, ndt]. If you thought this passage is relevant with Alistair and Wynne, then go ahead with Loghain and Wynne instead, as this will give a lot of details about the character and motivations of Loghain (you remember when Loghain told that Cailan it would be wrong to go along with Orlais? I think you want to see his reaction when he finds out that Cailan had finally reason). I praise the merits of the franchise Dragon Age because of this complex and fascinating writing enemies, and Loghain is by far the most interesting to me, especially because I have a hard time seeing it as a true "bad guy" after having spared.

Dcreas -  Do you know (and can you tell us) so we'll see Isabela in DA: I?

Allegra - Spoilers!

Ritch - If thou mayest answer this question, do you know if Isabela and Josephine know?

Allegra - Spoilers!

Cliiment - I wonder if Josephine and Isabela are somewhat similar, or if it was something really new to do, a new character in the skin that make.

Allegra - Oh, they are quite different. You will realize in when you see Josephine! But to assume different roles / characters is part of the job, and honestly, it's often the most fun part overall.

Dragon Age France - Thank you, Allegra, for taking the time to respond! We wish you good luck and good luck in your work, and look forward to hearing from you in-game (for those who play in VO or VOSTFR)!

Well that explains a lot about my Hawk's relationship with her. But, the thing that set me off was it referred to Allegra as a "he". Out of a the English classes I have taken in my life, I know that messing up the pronouns when talking about a real person is extremely rude.

Thanks BC and Kallen for both the original and translated articles. It was a pleasant read and Allegra was true to her word by not giving anything away in the spoilers department.

Are we any closer to getting a decent screen/vid of her new hairdo?

As much as I want to see new decent screens and vids of our Joise (heck, just one would do right now), tbh I just do not see us getting any of that until release day when we will find be able to find out for ourselves. But I would love to be proven wrong so its a case of hoping for the best but expecting the worst.

Here is the whole interview translated:

Thank you for posting that! The translation is a bit hard to follow in a few places, but we could get the major points which is what matters. Sounds like Allegra puts her French accent to use, probably as Orlesians (it'll be fun trying to spot her voice - it's a hobby of mine identifying VAs). Hmm, Isabela. Well, that could make a PT interesting even if she just gets mentioned between Josephine and Leliana since I couldn't resist the Warden-Leliana-Isabela-Zevran encounter when I romanced Leliana (topped off by leaving poor Alistair standing by himself in a whorehouse, which was unintentional but made it funnier).

Idealistic, competent, and persuasive, oh, the more I actually find out about Josephine, the more she fascinates me. An idealistic Antivan... :D
