[Lukas Trevelyan]

Okay so here's my character; who I hope will be the final one I make (for my main play through that is ) 

Lukas Trevelyan; pragmatic, sensitive but pro-templar-circle-chantry for the most part. Has some self esteem issues but is kind and wants to help people. Respects all his followers but tends to avoid Sera, Dorian and Iron Bull. Disagrees but greatly respects Solas. In agreement but is conflicted by Vivienne. Looks up to and admires Cassandra. And Cole fascinates him to no end, he admires the spirit and he wants to be his friend.

But with more serious tone: That is, if what you say is true (haven´t played the game yet), you can be left with a idea that nothing happened. And I am past disney age so I leave cute cartoons for kids. Not talking about Game of Thrones kind of nudity by the way, just a hint would do.

I must say I enjoyed Josephine's romance, maybe because it had just simple romantic moments. I felt the lack of sex was actually a wise decision.

I completed Josephine's romance last night and i must say this is probably my favorite in a bioware game so far. I took some screen shots if anyone wants to see them.

I'd like to step in here and address the concerns from my perspective as well. Sylvia, Allegra, and I were all pretty much in lock-step when creating Josephine and specifically her romance. What I think might provide some perspective is to really consider all that you experienced with Josephine as a character, how cute and innocent she seems, how Disney-esque her courtship unfolds, and ask yourself; do I really want to see the scene where they both get naked? I saw it mentioned before that it would have been good if we at least provided a choice to either see it or not. I just can't imagine a situation where that would have been what was best for Josephine.

 

I'm so happy that Josephine's romance was not a "by-the-numbers" romance. Think of the fantasy that Josephine's romance arc allowed you to experience; a gentleman's duel for love, a unique scenario the like of which we have never seen at BioWare and possibly never will see again.

Thank you for the insight, Richard. It's cool how all three of you worked together when creating her rather than it just being passed to each other when one person's job was done. All we need now is Allegra to come on and explain and we have all of Team Josie. And I agree that having it wouldn't have matched the feel the rest of the arc had. 

 

I really hope there are more romances like Josephine's in the future. Ignoring the personal reasons I love it, it is just a good contrast to the other ways and gives a fresh feel rather than following the same formula for every character. 

 

 

I honestly hope the bolded part isn't true, since BioWare romances really need more variety. Not when it comes to love interests, since that's been pretty diverse in Dragon Age, but when it comes to types of courtship.

 

It eventually really gets old when every romance follows the same flirt-sex-relationship path, which makes Josie's romance arc all the more fun and precious. Particularly because it suits her character so much.

That's not a bad idea.. I wish I had more insight but the last Josephine scene I had was the morning balcony scene; then I wanted to reroll cause I didn't like how my character looked

I'm in the same boat, though I am 50 hours in and the reason for wanting to reroll is because I'm getting the strategy guide in a couple days.

My reasons are RP/gameplay. At first I kinda liked my dalish elf but I messed up a couple of RP dialouge options, then I just started feeling insecure about the character as a whole especially physically (male elves are really skinny, like me. Thing is I hate being as skinny as I am).

Then I made a rouge and got as far as Skyhold but I noticed that I didn't like my character's face at all, I messed up the cheekbones badly

I have been 100% on board with this since day 1, and told Sylvia and Richard as much the more I got into Josie’s script. I think having implied or non-existent sex is a really wonderful switch-up as far as BioWare romances go, especially given Josie’s race and sexual orientation (as in: it’s nice to see a bi woman of color l who gets courted and treated like a princess, given the bi stereotype of promiscuity and the woc stereotypes of “immediately sexualized” and/or “don’t need no man”). You can absolutely infer a more sexual relationship with Josie just as you can infer a chaste/asexual one (yay ace representation! really honored that Josie provided that option for ace gamers), but I really appreciate that sex isn’t a reward for Josie’s duel, since that would reek of awkward fantasy “I AM A DAMSEL IN DISTRESS LET ME REWARD YOU WITH MY BODY” trope. Yes, consensual sex between consenting adults, but it’s important to remember that the game mechanics would provide a sex as a reward for that in-game decision, so I’m more comfortable with that not being the case. (Key difference between, say, Cass’ romance where you find poetry for a date, and Josie’s where you LITERALLY WIN HER HAND) Really, it’s just more appropriate and respectful of Josie.

 

Just as Inquisition provides a variety of characters from all walks of life with different perspectives, it’s nice to see characters who either have very open views of sex and sexuality, or whose sexual views can be headcanoned to match more conservative or asexual ones. This world has Iron Bulls and it has Josephines, and they’re both really beautiful and wonderful and I’m glad BioWare has created a world where both exist without shame.

 

Besides, Richard put SO MUCH WORK into that duel. Poor man was busy enough without a sex scene too ;D

That's really interesting because I hadn't even thought to apply that angle/trope to it. But now that you've said it I can't not think it. Definitely the right decision there I think.

Yay, we had the entire Team Josie respond to this!

Yeah, I like how Josephine shatters several stereotypes. Both of things in the lore, like her being a bard who doesn't use sex and/or murder to get information for a few years, and of things out of the lore like the tropes you point out.

 

And then she also gives representation for various groups that haven't been shown in Bioware games much if at all. From sexualities like asexual or demisexual, both for the player through the Inquisitor and through Josephine herself though she would be considered specifically acebisexual or demibisexual if so, to lifestyle choices like those who would rather wait until marriage before becoming sexually involved, since the duel can be seen as challenging her fiance for the right to her hand in marriage. They may not be specifically stated like The Iron Bull being pansexual, but the things that can make it representation are still there. I know that I myself have never felt more represented in Bioware games than with Josephine.

 

As for the dueling scene, yeah I hadn't thought about how hard and time consuming that scene would have been since everything from the angles of the swords to the twirling hug to the cuddling on the couch by the fire that night would have to be different depending on the Inquisitor's race and gender.
