What does he say?

Spoiler

Also you can talk to Josephine's sister during the ball, which is hilarity all around.

Well, did you do their personal missions first? If so it may have locked you out of Josephine's.

I did not do his personal mission first. I had not even activated it.  Same with Sera

I saw a couple people with the same problem. You might have to advance Blackwall's story until you find a moment to break up with him if you want the other options back.

Josie nearly got me to switch from Cass. She's SO CUTE. I still call her Scribbles all the time too. :)

Ah, I remember that now.

And yeah, egging her sister's wild ideas about the relationship on was great. "I already have our bags packed, my dear." :P

Hmm, then I really don't know. I got hers long before anyone else so I don't know how far others can get before being affected.

I got that dialogue. I liked it. I also got some fun dialogue from Cullen and Sera. Cassandra too, but my game got wonky and I missed what she said. Has there been any other dialogue related to the romance? I've always enjoyed what the characters have to say.

Josephine got me to switch from Cassandra. Well, sort of.

It was weird. I was so determined that Cassandra would be my first Inquisitors romance but... there was just no chemistry between her and my Inquisitor, no matter what I did. Going through with her romance just felt so forced and unnatural, it was actually quite shocking and I had to reload not long after. I don't know if it was the writing or just my Inquisitor in particular. Meanwhile Josephine and my Inquisitor had so much chemistry it was begging to happen. I had to go with what best fit my Inquisitor in the end, no matter how much I liked Cassandra as a character.

That duel scene is fancier if you have the party outfit during it.

I like Josephine romance, is very light hearted, there is no crazy drama like half of the others. The duel scene was my favourite, because the dialogue is so cheesy and cliche, I just shut down my brain and start throwing an bunch of one liners. I also like how the Antiva guy is an good sport and accepts defeat. He went out like an gent.

Romancing Josie as a Qunari gives off a "Beauty and the Beast" vibe...

Spoiler

As Beauty and Beast is one of my favorite disney stories and Josie is the Disney Princess of Dragon Age, the vibe seems appropriate.

All we need now is a scene like this:

Yeah, he earned a lot of respect from me with how he handled that. He doesn't throw a fit but concedes honorably because he wants whatever makes Josephine happy, even if it isn't him.

So without spoilers, what is the thread's general consensus on Josephine's romance and character? Haven't gotten the game yet, but Josy is what I am curios to know most about in the game.

I just wanted to throw my two cents in and first of all say that having the creators/writers of Josephine share their input was really cool of them. I agree with what they said, specially Allegra, about how it was nice to have a bisexual woman of color not be sexualized and instead be treated like a princess. As a gay latina woman myself, it is a breath of fresh air by all means.

My first playthrough I was actually planning on romancing Sera since she was the only female-only character so I thought "why not?" but I most literaly fell in love with Josephine's character. There was no chemistry there with Sera except in a friends-sort-of-way. Josephine is such an amazing character and actually really reminds me of Liara in some aspects (who my Shepard romanced every playthrough no matter what.)

Some people are saying they wanted a sex scene with her, and I will admit that I also expected one since that's how all bioware romances usually culminate and how you know that "its the real deal" but with Josephine, after everything that you go through and the courtship, I feel like actually having a sex scene would have been almost disrespectful towards her as a character. There is enough ambiguity to let you know that, hey, yes, they are sexually active, if you want to see it that way.

Spoiler

All in all, I for one am thankful for there not being a sex scene. I don't say the "lack" of a sex scene because it did not make Josephine's romance lacking in any sense of the word. Josephine is innocent, adorable, romantic, and a sex scene would have been intrusive to her character in my opinion.

In conclusion to my long rant (sorry!) I just want to say that as much as I had told myself I would explore all possibilities in the game, I don't think I can romance anyone else but Josephine now. She's just too perfect and adorable. Kind of how I couldn't romance anyone but Liara.

So thank you, Sylvia, Allegra and Richard, for making such an amazing character and a wonderful romance.

Thank you for taking the time to share that TheAvatar. I do agree that Josephine is adorable (or lovely, as I notice the game itself uses a lot).

If you find yourself unable to pull away from her I suppose there's always Youtube for the others! :)

I honestly hope the bolded part isn't true, since BioWare romances really need more variety. Not when it comes to love interests, since that's been pretty diverse in Dragon Age, but when it comes to types of courtship.

It eventually really gets old when every romance follows the same flirt-sex-relationship path, which makes Josie's romance arc all the more fun and precious. Particularly because it suits her character so much.

I like to see more mixing it up too, though while I realize I'm speaking on behalf of Richard and could be wrong in my impressions, but I read his point more to the specifics (a duel) than "we'll only do the same types of courtships all the time from now on."  Honestly I'd rather see more stuff like Josie's, on a personal level.  I find it more interesting.

I cannot seem to trigger the final romance quest for Josephine. I have not used the romance dialogue for anyone else in the game, so I'm sort of confused as to why I can't progress.

I'd been going to come into this topic to say something positive.

But after learning of this? No longer.

**** me. They imbalance the romance options to begin with and then they play some kind of coy crap? Believe me, I'm not trying to be prurient on this, but... I'm infuriated. I like and value sex, and I never thought I'd have to worry about Bioware tiptoeing around this. Especially for one of only two f/f options.

People are not Disney princesses. Disney princesses are fluffy overmerchandised pieces of crap barely a step above Barbie dolls when viewed in total, and even if you ignore all the merchandising, they're part of a very specific and very restricted niche that you shouldn't just copy in a setting where the conventions are completely different. Not to mention that this gorram "gentleman's duel" thing is no better without sex at the end than with; it's a cheesefest tilted toward sexism in a hetero relationship either way.

I consider this a very poor decision, I will not add to Josephine's completed romance telemetry, and I will hope deeply that nothing like it is done ever again. And it was my mistake, I suppose, to have entered Josephine's romance while thinking that it could be taken seriously.

The consensus for this thread seems to be a vast majority of her fans like the romance, especially after the animator, VA, and writer explained some things.

With how much time and effort that went into the duel, you are probably right in that being what he meant. I hope so, since I love how this was done and hope that more romances in the future are similar to this one.

Ah, I just realized I didn't do Josephine's family crest operation at the war table. I had beaten the game and couldn't talk to anyone after that, luckily I had a save file prior to beating the game. I think that will enable me to finish the romance
