Does anyone remember if one of the Jade Empire, SWTOR, or the older Bioware games romances had a virgin option in them? Just asking since Bioware definitely seems to like to have at least one per game so I want to see how much of a trend it is.

The main difference being we meet most of them as teenagers. Josephine isn't a teenager.

I'm not disapproving at all, actually. I like how Bioware has LIs of varying experience since players have different preferences about that sort of thing.

Not really. Most of the ones listed are at least in their twenties, same as Josephine.

Ha I swear every female companion thread has gone through the "are they a virgin?" stage. I am actually curious why does it matter so much to people if some one is a virgin or not?

some like to be the first to plant their flag. Personally it doesnt matter cause in this day of age sex is meaningless just a biological compulsion(that is awsome) its more about connection

Cultural upbringing, I suspect. There are many cultures that promote abstinence until a person finds the one for them. And people like people who share their views, so it is natural that one would wonder if a character they like has the same views as them, including the views on sex.

I guess I could understand that it still seems weird to me though.

That's fine. There are views about sexuality that I view weird as well. Though that's why I'd never demand that all romances fall under my views on that and understand why Bioware has the trends they do, since it appeases more people.

Why does it bother you so much that people are curious about it? People are curious about the characters background, and given the romance that would be a natural question. It isn't as if someone said "Oh man Cass isn't a virgin, I'm not going to romance her now" or anything.

Not when we first met them.

Bastila was 19. Liara is an alien. Alistair was 19. Tali was 21ish(I guess). Merrill was...probably youngish looking at her and given the Warden's age being implied as teenager. Vette is late teens just like the Wrath. Josephine is well older than all of them.

To be fair Liara is around 100 years old when you first meet her.

Well, Leliana does say that Josephine is an innocent in romance/sex matters

As long as you don't roleplay as a stalker while doing it, I suppose not.

I actually found that whole conversation and follow up to be annoying.

Josie protests Leliana's description of herself, then goes on to prove Leliana right by misinterpreting the inquisitor's interest.

She's a freaking ambassador. She's a people person. She didn't get to where she is without some inkling of an understanding of human nature and how to manipulate it. Add to this that she's got to be at least in her late 20s/early 30s, and it just plain stretches credulity - is Leliana saying that not even one person has ever been attracted to/courted Josephine (an attractive noble woman) in all that time? (Mind, I'm not saying that she can't be a virgin, because she could be - I just think she'd have a better handle on romance/love since that would be a big part of the the Game in Orlais, and politics amongst nobility elsewhere.)

So I headcanoned that Leliana was wrong (and rude), and Josephine was just so focused on her work she didn't notice the inquisitor's interest.

Well it seems that because she is from a noble family her marriage would have been arranged, so perhaps thats why she's inexperienced in flirting?

Considering 60 is like Asari 16, and then they go on to be raging party girls for a good 200 years, yeah.

Welp I guess that's one of the down sides of talking on the internet. You never really know how people are saying things :P

But nah I manly asked because im asexual and alot of things people say/do in relationships don't make sense to me.

Creating a character like Josephine is a success. She is definetely ...how do you spell it? H-O-T!

A very nice personality. Trustworthy, honest, devoted and very feminine.

If you're going to make that argument, you need to ask yourself why a ~30 year old noble is not already married? Because not only is Josephine a noble, she's the heir to her house - and she needs to be getting busy having heirs of her own while she still can. (30, much later and it would be getting a bit on for kids, remembering that as the years pass it becomes a riskier and riskier process, especially in a world that doesn't have modern technology and I'm confused as to whether or not magic would make up for its lack.)

Besides which, expecting an arranged marriage doesn't mean that you can't flirt/become romantically involved with with your peers. Flirting is in the toolbox for both Bards (which Josie was at one point) and diplomats. As I said, if Josie is going to be understanding such things as the Orlesian Game and the politics of nobility, she's got to understand romance and love... Lest someone take advantage of her. Knowledge of these things would be like armour, IMHO.

(By the way, does anyone know if there's a way of blocking the Josie/Blackwall romance if she's not being romanced?

Spoiler
)

They may measure maturity differently, but years are years.

Too true. I think its merely curiosity though. Knowing gives people more insight into the characters background I suppose.

I wasn't really making an argument at all, merely posing a question. I won't pretend to have the answer as to why she didn't have a suitor before this. That's a question better suited for the writers.

As far as flirting goes, that isn't exactly a requirement to engage in the game. It's more of a tool that you can use to achieve an end. Doesn't mean you have to make use of it, and according to the game she never did. Take for example the inquisitor in the Winter Palace, you didn't have to flirt with the people of the court in order to achieve your end.

There isn't any Josephine/Blackwall romance. The only characters in this game that hook up if neither are romanced are Dorian and Blackwall.
