So I've finally got to my Josephine run and got the dueling scene last night and my goodness so much cheese! I love it! So over the top and just just wonderful with how cheesy it is. Normally romance cheesy stuff makes me queasy but it works with my Inquisitor and Josephine oddly enough and again hard for me to hate such cheese, ah the cheesy goodness I love it so.

So when I was going to fight the guy who was going to marry Josephine, I broke up with her. Then after Wicked Eyes and Wicked Hearts, I had the heart option and could dance with Josephine so we did. She acted like nothing happened?!?! If I rekindle the romance, I'm wondering if I'd get the same quest with the sword duel.

Also, after I broke up with her, she wouldn't talk to me at her desk. It took like a mission or side quest until she started talking again and said things like "Your worship...".

Depends on what you mean by normal, though I'll say Josephine certainly fits the definition of normal adult even without sleeping with someone yet.

Agreed.

You broke up with her during the duel? What'd she say?

Why does Josephine have to be so adorable? I'm romancing Cassandra with my second play through but she is making it difficult.

Just beat the game. Romanced Josephine, of course. I told everyone I would! Including Allegra, even. And it was so. Effing. Worth it.

Romance of the ever, whew.

You broke up with her during the duel? What'd she say?

The option was something like, "Maybe you're right..." and she agrees that the relationship isn't working out anymore. Her betrothed then asks her to marry him, and she says "NO!!!! I'm not marrying either of you!"  and she storms off. Her betrothed then asks if she has a sister...

When you go back to her desk at Skyhold and try talking to her, she says, "I need time to be alone right now..."

So you don't have any options to interact with her. But after a few missions, I can talk to her again like it's no big deal and nothing happened. And then I could dance with her at The Winter Palace??? I am confused. Apparently she's still super friendly to you even after you acting like an ass, because at the end of Wicked Eyes and Wicked Hearts, she leans in and touches your arm.  So, I have no idea what's going on.

Also, Leliana makes no comment of your relationship with Josephine after you break up with her, even though previously, Leliana expressed concern for the Inquisitor hurting Josephine.

From a game standpoint that is confusing. But considering how relationships work it's possible that someone could still care about you even after things end. It would be interesting to see Lelianas reaction.

I enjoy how integrated it is into the game, rather than being treated more like a "payoff" at the eleventh hour as is the case with most BioWare games. Of course, all the conversations leading up to that are valued components, but in DAI, at least with Josephine, it seems to be designed to offer more of a relationship feel for a change, rather than nothing but flirt-chances, then a commitment, then the "priiiize" seen in past titles. I approve.

the "priiiize"

Alright you...

That aside, Josephine is a far cry from the lecherous, amoral rogues I usually go for but she is a polite, intelligent woman and that damn accent sealed the deal.

It would be helpful if there was some indicator that we had a previous relationship instead of it making it look like it's just the game mechanics. I still don't know if my friendship level was the same and it just gave us another opportunity to romance, or if Josephine still had feelings. I guess I can put it in my headcanon that Josephine still has feelings.

Does everyone get the option to dance with Josephine after Wicked Eyes and Wicked Hearts? And were you in a relationship with her or not?

The way I see it...the game flags that we are *not* in a relationship but our friendship level is high enough to do the Heart dialogue option. It doesn't matter if we broke up or not.

Also I reloaded so many times, and I can't remember if I danced with her or not for my final save. Ugh...

That would've been funny, especially since she pretty much said my supper would be tampered with if I did anything to Josephine.

I have a question about the Josephine romance I noticed at the Winter Palace I can't ask her to dance at all and I could have sworn I locked in her romance, is that a bug or can I not ask her to dance right away? I oddly had an option to ask Cassandra to dance though despite only flirting with her once very early in the game and like I mentioned before locking in Josephine's romance.

Edit: I reloaded an older save and made sure that the option locked the romance and now i'm not sure it did so can I only dance with her after I lock in the romance?

The dance happens at the end of the ball after you've dealt with the Assassination plot.

Edit: And I found it disappointing not getting to talk with her a lot more too. I really wanted more content with her after the duel and found the lack of conversations afterwards disappointing.

So can you not ask the advisers to dance then? Cause I was able to ask companion romances to dance before then though I was told to wait until after the ball so I though that you have to at least ask in order to get the dance. Is that not the case then?

I don't romance guys so not sure about Cullen but with Josie you definitely can't ask her. Often I felt she was less developed than companions and possibly the other advisers though it may be perception based on finishing most of her content quickly where as Cullen's quests dragged on a lot longer.

Hmm alright well thank you this is my first adviser romance so I was unsure and worried I did something wrong. Thank you for clearing that up for me :)

After Morrigan says she'll be joining you, Josephine should come to talk to you and there is an option in the dialogue to ask her to dance.

Okay that's great to know thank you! I know with the companions I've romanced so far I've had that option right off the bat so it not being there had me slightly worried  Good to know I can still dance with her <3

Yep. It fades to black like all other dance scenes but you see them do at least one circle before it gets too dark.

You're welcome. ^_^

It... kind of does... but in an extremely stripped-down form because we never get banter about it and there are only a few conversations--and one of them consists of Josephine actually not understanding why we're starting a relationship to begin with.

You talk to her regarding the rleationship a couple times after the duel cinematic. Dialogue with her and her sister at winter palace, the dance, 1-2 times in skyhold via 3rd person convo, another in arbor wilds, and then once more in skyhold. After that it's the end scenes at the steps, and then the balcony. Overall I didn't feel like it lacked anything at all. I can see how some people might miss these convos though, they're generally tied to the main quest from what I've seen.

I suppose the problem could be that the game is long to the point of being bloated... or just that I hate being unable to bring her along and get to hear her talk about what I encounter. Some of my favorite moments of Merrill's romance in DA2 were in party banter.
