Seeing past DLCs, they have less content than the companions but hey we never know. Maybe it is a DLC heavy on a non-combat side of things like the MotA.

I found a very nice little essay about someone's opinion on Josephine's and Leliana's friendship.

We aren’t privy to how their friendship developed - to sepia-toned scenes, flashbacks of pivotal moments. Instead, we arrive when that relationship is already established, with only scant details to be gathered through dialogue selection and careful observation. And as such, perhaps we might read too much between the lines.

But a certain love is evident between Leliana and Josephine. It’s far from overt - it’s subtle, but even so, warm and alive. You hear it in the way they speak about one another, with tones that may at times be chiding, but never disparaging. There’s fondness, with worry clinging to the edges. The ‘warning’ conversation that Leliana gives to an Inquisitor flirting with the ambassador, the concerned comments Josephine makes about the spymaster and her demeanor - we don’t bear witness to conversations between these two alone, nor to any murmurings of affection, to the quick embrace, or the hand clasped so as to convey support and strength, but it’s easy to imagine these gestures, so natural would they seem.

They are, for each other, anchor and harbor - safety and security through familiarity, the calmness of confidence in one another’s capabilities, and a steady foundation of trust. Which is, as they are both aware, a perishable commodity. It’s a risky venture - as a diplomat and a former bard, Josephine knows that the smallest weakness (perceived or real) can be exploited. And Leliana has had her faith betrayed under the guise of love, has had to reassess her convictions.

At Haven and Skyhold, aside from their own romantic partners (and perhaps a bear-obsessed Seeker), they are each other’s sole source of reliability. Their bond is greater than the amount of years they have known one another - it’s significant for its depth, for the vulnerability each has seen, for the near imperceptible muscle movements indicating mood, for the late night revelry (and the pinned smallclothes), the comforting proximity when the world is at its darkest.

It’s heartwarming really, to know that these characters, despite the hardships and struggles, despite the swirling vortex of miasmic green in the sky (all the uncertainty and impending doom) have each other. That their relationship is solid, is a given - a present, tangible thing. So too, it’s refreshing - that we get to experience and observe a friendship between two women, free of competition and spite, free of schemes and malice. Just deep, abiding, unconditional love.

*snip*

Wow that was a great read, I agree with all of his points.

I honestly love Josephine because I feel she plays a part in bringing out the good in Leliana. I  imagine she becomes ecstatic once Leliana becomes her old self again (in my playthrough at least). I believe that their friendship is one of the best written companion friendships in the game, if not the best.

Anyway. Who's gonna be spending their valentine getting cozy with Josie? No? Just me then? Okay

To have some fun, when the DLC for DAI eventually comes out what do you think Josephine will do in them?

Have sex?

To get on topic, I think part of the reason that people think Josie is boring is that her cunning is always so subtly portrayed. Let's take one scene at Haven at the start with the noble who wants to evict the Inquisition from Haven. She plays off the Inquisitor perfectly - regardless of what you say she has an immediate answer to take command of the situation and guide the conversation to a rapid resolution. She eschews violence because she holds herself responsible for taking a life and it makes her a welcome breath of fresh air from the usual borderline psycho companions we have. I mean, I love the IB, but he's so gleefully into murder that it's a bit maladjusted. Josie's biggest failing is that she's a real person in a setting that doesn't want real people in it.

I think that's not the problem, at least not for me. The problem for me is that she has no connection to anything the PC does. The other advisers have this problem too, but Leliana always sort of holds herself apart, and I've never had any romantic desire for Cullen, so both of them work for me. But in Josephine's case, it seems especially egregious, maybe because she's new.

Ultimately, Josephine has no relationship with the Inquisitor or the Inquisitor's actions. She's there, doing the same thing no matter what you do unless you romance her... and if you do romance her, it feels forced and fake to me, because the romance doesn't seem to be happening for any reason. Are you the kind of person that she actually likes? It doesn't matter! All you have to do deal with the assassination plot and flirt with her. The romance doesn't advance the character arc of either character, nor does it reveal anything about Josephine... and sometimes it seems like there's very little to reveal anyway.

I like Josephine as a person quite a lot, but I really dislike her implementation.

Okay[/size] [/sub]

I love when Leliana mimics Josie. "Niceness before knives, Leliana. Haven't I always told you?"
Cracked me up.

Best Sismance, those two.

Hopefully a sex scene is something they don't bring in via DLC.

They did that with Samara and while I appreciated the bonus content I longed for, I didn't want a sex scene, so crossing my fingers they don't do that with Josie ;-;

I dunno. I just have this hunch that DLC won't have a lot of romance content, if any at all. Romances are optional, and if new scenes are added for all 8 romances... that's a lot of content and feels like it would be a whole DLC in itself. Although I'm sure a lot of folks would Love a Romance DLC.   ^_^

I'm thinking it will be more story focused- new quests and possibly a new area or two on the map. As far as romance content, I'd be happy with just a new conversation with the LI. Heart icons and all.

Yeah, they did the same with James Vega too in Citadel. Hope you are right.

Since they said they aren't doing big expansion packs, you are most likely correct.

So my other attempt at a fully Josephine run has been stopped due to complications of this new patch. I'm almost tempted to just look up the romance but it'll feel weird seeing someone else's Inquisitor there (as silly as that sounds) I'm hoping that when these complications are either cleared out or I muster through them I don't run into the same bug I did with my last Josephine run. I may start thinking the woman is cursed.

Optional content. If you have your sexless romance already, I hardly see what you gain out of denying other people opportunities.

Because the developers didn't want to add one nor should they if they don't want to

If they wanted to they would've done it

It's called respecting the writers wishes

We have literally no choice but to respect their wishes, as we can't change the product. All we can do is make requests; it's their choice whether or not to grant them.

That said, if someone could somehow mod that scene in, they'd be my new e-best friend.

Thanks. My first run with Josephine I ran into a really weird court approval bug at the winter palace so kind of rage quit it  and now so much freezing happening to the point I hold my breath when  loading screen comes up if I even attempt the game. I hope thats fixed or worked out or whatever soon since I really would like to actually finish her romance.

Two things to share:

First Josephine is the tiniest girlfriend

Also why my Inquisitor took a lot of time to pick his dialogue options when romancing Josie.

Cause like really I swear he probably could have spent the day just staring into her eyes and smiling like a complete idiot without feeling bored.

I just laugh imagining Leliana rolling her eyes at her friend doing the whole dopey staring at each other and smiling things all day thing.

That seems a Leliana thing to do.

Innumerably varied reasons specific to each person. What are they in this case?
