I suddenly recall that quote from the Bourne series:

"Look at this, look at what they make you give"
As Bioware fans....we come to expect failure.
We expect romances to crash and burn and suffer angst, we expect drama and unremitting pain for characters.

Yet when a story lacks those things we seem to go out of our way to get ready, because we think its winding up for a bigger blow.

Maybe we should just be happy our romances biggest shock was a duel for love, rather than a breakup or very damning revelation.

Yeah, that's what BioWare really needs. More vapid, weaker writing. That's something we just didn't have enough of. Way to shovel on the evidence that those 'angsty' stories are dead on when they continually claim to be smarter and more mature.

Struggle is an absolute necessity. There can't be any triumph without it.

You missed the point.

Romance arcs can have different dynamics and progression. They don't all have to have to be sad or dramatic.

Mature storytelling isn't exclusive to one end of the spectrum or to the other.

Did I say I want a story without drama? NO

Did I say that I want a simple story? NO

I only said that we expect bad things to happen in romances and it leaves us nervous when they don't happen.

Yeah, sometimes they can just be genuinely good things.

I'm only just back on the forums after a couple of months, so only read back a few pages (and I've only really ever lurked on this thread anyways... ) But I have to agree with this post. My own canon BioWare romances are Liara, Leliana, Isabela and now Josie. I have to say, I found Josie's romance refreshing in a way, and also damn adorable. The other three are all fantastic and I loved them dearly. I even loved the angst - it added to those arcs in so many ways. Leliana being separated from the Warden, Isabela's commitment issues, Liara's cold attitude during LotSB...they were all nice, meaty, realistic romances.

However, Josie's romance was also great but in a different way. It was nice for one of my PCs to have an easy time of it for once.  :) Yes it was very cliché and pretty Disney fairy tale, but why not? Maybe it's the slight novelty I found in being able to have that kind of archetypal storybook story with a same sex romance that makes it more enjoyable for me, I don't know. But I think it's nice to have variety. AFAIK, Josie's romance arc is one of the few in both BioWare universes that is relatively drama-free. Also, I think it really suited her character quite well. She is a bit of a Disney princess after all.

Everytime I hear this song I just think of the Tenth Doctor singing it while pretending to be drunk in "The Girl in the Fireplace".

If only we could have also ended the night stumbling around with our sash tied around our heads and a glass of wine in hand;

"Have you met the Orlesians? Dear Maker, they know how to party!"

I would find it really funny if Josie was a really undignified sleeper.

Like she flopped around, managed to hit the PC in her sleep, and ended up pushing the Inquisitor off the bed.

Or at least I think its funny, I doubt the Inquisitor would.

Early one morning in Skyhold.

Qunari Inquisitor: AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH! Where my left horn?!

(looks to the other side of the bed to find Josephine cuddling horn with both arms)

Qunari Inquisitor: AHHHHHHHH! Why? :crying:

(Josephine slowly awakes)

Josephine: What is it my love?

What is the name of the episode with that french robot? I can't remember... I just remember doctor who talks to a french princess through a fireplace and the robots try to turn the humans into a smoothie for their ship.

The episode was The Girl in the Fireplace. And the French woman was Jeanne Antoinette Poisson, also known as Madame de Pompadour. The clockwork robots tried to harvest her brain because they used human organs to repair their ship, which was named after her.

Bit of a random question, and wasn't sure where else to post it...

If you don't romance Josie, it's implied that she and Blackwall have a thing for each other. However, they can't actually be together because they are of "different stations". Now obviously I wouldn't want them together, because Josie is mine  ;)  - but I'm just curious as to why...? I know Josie is nobility, but still. Grey Wardens (which Blackwall supposedly is) are pretty highly regarded, at least prior to events of Inquisition where they seem to have lost their minds. Or is it the fact that he's not actually a Warden, but a criminal? It just seems weird that my Tal-Vashoth Warrior is considered acceptable for courtship if she's so strict about propriety and decorum. Although I suppose being the Inquisitor and possible divinely ordained savior gives you a boost on the social ladder.

The Qunari Inquisitor is a Vashoth. You can't be a Tal-Vashoth if you were never part of the Qun.

Plus, said qunari is still the Herald of Andraste; Bro of the Orlesian Emperor/Empress; Inquisitor and 3-Time Savior of the world.

Also, Grey Wardens are revered, but they're largely outside of the social caste by design so I'm not certain if Blackwall would be a suitable match. Unless Blackwall single-handedly ended a blight or was somehow able to acquire his own land and title like the HOF did.

Bah. Blackwall is an ill-bred vagabond from the woods. Let us not sully this thread with discussion of that ruffian.

As pointed out above, Grey Wardens are not supposed to hold stations. If a member of nobility or even royalty joins the Wardens, they are supposed to forfeit any claims to that station they had. The only two nations where this is not the case is the Anderfels, which even then the Wardens don't lead technically but in reality do since that nation is constantly plagued by Darkspawn raids, and possibly Ferelden, and those were really unique circumstances.

Then after the revelation, the reasons should be obvious.

Is Dorian the only one who remarks about your romance with Josie? It was something like "Curious thing, I was talking to your ambassador the other day and said "Dearest Josephine, why do you look so flushed?", and she dropped, her pen. Bravo Inquisitor" (It's pretty cool since I headcanon that the Inky and Dorian are friends)

I got dialogue from Cullen & Sera about Josie while in a romance, but only when i asked them specifically about her.

Oh I don't talk much with Cullen and kick Sera out in all of my playthroughs.

What do they say?

Sera: "Now Josie? You don't need me going on about your little Josie. You know her better."

Cullen: "Josephine seems happier of late. She's been smiling constantly since your trip to Val Royeaux. I swear at one point she was humming."
