I know it's been said many times over, but I still dislike the ambiguity of whether or not Josephine and the Inquisitor were ever physically intimate. This isn't another "adults can handle sex scenes" rant; I would've loved if Josie told the player she wants to wait until marriage* and/or is asexual or demisexual. Give us a new type of romance arc that we haven't had Bioware! Now I understand the writer's reasoning, to allow players to be able to headcannon their relationship with Ms. Montilyet, just that for a couple of reasons that it doesn't work for me personally:
1. I admit I've become weary of ambiguous storytelling in general; is he good or evil? Is she alive or dead? Did they get back to their proper timeline or not? is it all real or just a dream? Now there's a difference between Unreliable Narrator, where the layers of first person storytelling is the whole point, versus Omniscient Third Person narrative where huge portions of plot and/or character develpement is hidden. I also admit this quirk is not necessarilly an absolute for me, and some of my favourite tales are ambigous. But said ambiguity is a pretty big hurdle for me to get past anymore, so new stories that use it better be good
.
2. For me, the "did they or didn't they" aspect is just one more symptom of the utter passtivity of Joshephine's romance arc. You can be a jerk, anti-Andrastian, choose Lelianna's plan in Of Somewhat Fallen Fortune, and you can still woo her**. If Josie had told the player that she wants to wait until marriage, it would have been something towards reclaiming her agency.
*I agree you should have been able to marry Josephine in Tresspasser. As well as any of the Love Interests, barring Solas for obvious reasons.
**One more problem of Advisors not having an Approval Meter. Hopefully Bioware will fix this (as well as being able to choose Advisors) in future games.
