I have no clue if I'll be doing more fan art in the near future.  However, I figured I might as well make a thread and if I do, I can post it here.

Feedback/critiques are welcome.

For starters, here's Solas.  I may do some more work to this later, and if I do, I'll edit this post with the newer, shinier version.

Yaaaaay I'm so excited to see more from you! I love your Solas. I think your piece highlights the fact that he's not human very well.

That is just incredible. Your shading and the way you have done his fur piece of clothing (I'm not sure what to call it) is exceptional. Any critiques? Well I suppose the background could do with a bit more detail and it might just be me but his forehead seems just a little too big, but this is just nit-picking. Really great work, I'm really looking forward to seeing more of your art. :)

Yes, the background needs way more detail.  You were right about his head too--it's tilted downward a bit but he was looking like a Conehead.  Noticed his eyes were also off kilter.

I made some changes:

I think it looks much better now, but I'm still not really "done."  I guess I never really will be, since every time I think I am, I see things I want to change no matter what I do.  I've also got a sketch in the works that may or may not be painted.  More Solas.

I'd like to try my hand at Vivienne, but her outfits are soooo complicated, and I'm horrible with anatomy... Still, she's cool and I love that bird outfit she's got.

Edit:  Just noticed, anyone else think that his left eye (the one to the viewer's right, sorry...) is just a little too high still?  I lowered it quite a bit, but it still feels off to me... I also think his chin is too square/strong, but that's going to be a harder problem to fix.

Nothing seems wrong with the eye to me now, it looks fine. I suppose his chin is a bit square but it's nothing too noticeable.

Out of curiosity what did you use to make this?

I'm seeing something off with the eyes.  Not quite sure what though.  I think his left eye needs more shading to look as deep-set as his right eye (screenshots indicate he's got rather deep-set eyes).  Once I fix that I guess I'll be able to tell for sure if it's too high up on his face, compared to his right eye.

As for what I used, I worked in Artrage 4.  I've been a fan of Artrage since Artrage 2 or 2.5 came out.  Looks like real media, plus has some bonuses.  It's pretty intuitive, and way more affordable than Corel Painter (which I'd love to have but can't afford, and I hear it's not precisely easy to use even if I could).

More Solas art, this time just his face (facing forward, which we don't have an actual pic of, but someone zoom-enhanced the itty bitty 3/4 view of him in a screenshot, so I worked from there):

And I actually did this for Easter, so here is the Easter-ized version:

Yes, I am a horrible person for doing that to him.  But it was fun...
