So those materials do have an irrational fear of water lol

Not quite. Substances are hydrophobic because they are nonpolar. Nonpolar molecules are made up of elements with little difference in their electronegativities so they do not have charges or partial charges. Water is a polar molecule so it tends to be attracted to other molecules that are polar as well.

Skyrim spiders are the worse. Especially since they always want to creep up on you :(

ME: Okay there's webs spider coming up. Brace for it...brace for it...

Spider: HIIISSS

ME: GODDAMNIT

Without fail.

DAO was also terrible with that damn overwhelm :( so not only am I surrounded by spiders it's mauling spiders that I can't do a damn thing about.

Ok, 1) it's a game, they aren't real, and 2) if you hate spiders so much, don't play.

I hate spiders irl (especially big ones like tarantulas and Brazilian wandering spiders * shudders *), but I don't mind the ones in-game.  I know it's a game and they aren't real so they don't bother me.  I'm just glad I'm not in the game so I never have to see those dog-sized beasts in person.

How about you not be condescending?

My humblest apologies o'Divine One. I would never dare to be condescending in your exalted presence. I meant to put a smiley face at the end of my missive, but it was early and I felt lazy having not had my daily infusion of coffee. T'was merely a poor attempt at humor.

I knew that. I was just making a joke like the OP because hydro means water and phobia means irrational fear of something...okay I really need to get some more sleep now.

Dude if you're afraid of spiders, slaughtering them like a total badass in a video game should be freakin' therapeutic and awesome!! My advice (if you care :P ) is to go out and actively seek mediums like these that can help you indirectly deal with your phobia.

I have a mild phobia of mirrors (I say mild because it really depends on the day heh). Sometimes I get really paranoid a ghost will come out of it and claw my eyes out. It's stupid. It doesn't make sense. But yesterday I forced myself to re-watch an episode of a show that I think greatly contributed to instilling this fear in me back when I was a kid... and felt way better afterwards, because I had made this conscious effort to confront my fear.

Anyway at the end of the day Dragon Age is "dark fantasy," and it's SUPPOSED to be scary. I don't think accommodating people's phobias is really an option for devs.

IMO, if you are afraid of video game spiders, you have more of an issue than just not being able to play DAI. I used to be afraid of everything with more than 2 feet, then I became a Buddhist and forced myself to respect all life. Now I'm sleeping with spiderwebs and indeed spiders above my bed and I don't even notice them anymore (now obviously if I were to see one of those Austrialian spiders I might **** my pants a whole lot), but never in my life was I afraid of spiders or insects in games. If you are afraid of pixelated ones you should really think about the seriousness of this problem.

Asking the developers to put effort towards this seems rather silly. If you don't want to play spidery games, don't play games with spiders in them.

Again, a phobia is an *irrational* fear - That means that logic or rational thinking won't help a sufferer very much.

There is a difference between being scared of something (e.g. 'I don't like spiders, they're creepy and freak me out') and being terrified of the very thought of it to the point that you can't live a normal life (e.g. 'I can't sleep in this house tonight because I saw a spider in my room' or experiencing a panic attack).

Phobias are deeply rooted in psychology. They could be considered a disability in some extreme cases.
Don't be so quick to judge - especially if you don't have a phobia yourself.

Or the ones that crawl into your nose and ear and stay there for days because its moist, warm and comfortable. ( Something very similar happened to me, though with a ladybug)

Anyway, the Wolfspider carrying its young on its back always reminds me of a dropship carrying infantry into combat. Pretty cool.
