I doubt it.  My impression is that Gaspard sees Ferelden as critical to Orlesian security.  With the conquest of Ferelden, Orlais would dominate the Western Sea, have access to the breadbasket of the Bannorn, and never have to worry about a war on two fronts should enemies to the east start getting ambitious.

Thus far, I'm unable to see why Gaspard doesn't have to die.

As of now, I care about nothing in that piece of crap other than fixing this problem, and the Eluvians. Imshael's nothing special after Gaxkang and Xebenkeck, the Dalish were idiotic strawmen and everyone else is yet another Orlesian noble. I'm extremely angry at Celene, but I won't necessarily kill her if this issue can be resolved.

Why are you necessarily so angry? I honestly saw that coming from a mile away. The very second Briala had the first flashback, I knew what Celene had done. I'm a little sad that their relationship was built on such lies, but I thought it was entirely in character for a person like Celene.

Well, at the very least, I would think that the Veil tear will cause Gaspard to put his plans to retake Ferelden on hold. And once the situation is solved, Orlais is probably gonna have to do some rebuilding before they launch another attempt on Ferelden.

He's worth keeping alive if he can be convinced becoming Emperor isn't for him.

Which doesn't matter. The point, as I've stated many times over, is a repetition of a horrible pattern, and this time really grinding it in like broken glass with the focus it has in this novel. Weekes is no ally of mine.

Imshael is a very interesting concept.  It insists it's not a demon, but a "choice spirit" and doesn't act like a typical demon.  Yet it's as violent and desires posession much like any demon does.

I hope Ser Michel doesn't get himself killed questing after it.  He ended up being my favorite character of the book.

I'm not sure it'll be possible.

I would guess that his death is almost certain, otherwise the PC wouldn't be able to fight it.

You say that, even though he wrote a very well characterized lesbian character in Samantha Traynor. And despite it's tragic ending, I'm damned glad to see him writing a s/s romance as the main romance in a novel, and not epically ****ing it up.

I still think he definitely could be classified as a demon. That being said, he is certainly an upper tier one, something stronger than pride. Perhaps, because he is so much more powerful, he can choose to focus on things other than his "dominion", that being choices.

Anyways, I like how Choice is now a classification of demons. Pretty good choice in my opinion.

It may not be.  In which case his death would be regretable, but necessary, imo

if Celene became a empress worth following i can easily see it happening.

No doubt he would be watched for the remainder of his natural life but he is far more valuable alive then dead.

Well, for one he can be reasoned with, and he keeps his word once given.  For another, he's going to be fairly powerless to follow through for some time given Civil Wars are pretty hard on standing armies, what with them fighting and killing fellow Orlesians, friends and family, rather than foreign soldiers.  The Exalted Plain preview seems to suggest the fighting is particularly brutal, so it may take years to rebuild.  Lastly, he doesn't appear to be particularly racist, nor is class as important to him as merit.  He's really quite egalitarian, all things considered.

I'm sorry. But there is nothing in the book that supports the idea that Briala meant to help Celene become a better person or win Briala back. The entire relationship was built and maintained with deception and dependency, and it ended when the deceptions were exposed and Celene cast off her dependency. The Empress even thinks about how she doubts that now she will have any trouble sleeping, even though she's sleeping alone. The book hammers you again and again that while they are heartbroken that the relationship is over, it is conclusively and unambiguously ended, and both feel better for it.

Maybe. I guess I'm just a hopeless romantic and optimist at heart sometimes.

I admit there's not a whole lot going for my theory except one thing: Celene strikes me as someone who pursues her goals relentlessly. If she wants Briala back, and I imagine she does on some level, it's something she'd go to the ends of the earth to achieve.

But I'm dropping that topic now... I've taken it far enough. Even if I am right, despite everything, I doubt it's something we'll see in the game. As such perhaps not the most appropriate in this thread.

It is a departure from the more emotional states other demons focus on. Though, choice can be argued as not too divorced from emotion.

I don't know if 'choice' is a Classification of demons or just Ishmael's 'type'. It might be very different from other demons.

I find it intersting that it continually insisted that it was not a demon.  And had no apparant preferred mode of attack.

Indeed. Perhaps because it no longer see itself as demon, considering that title to be beneath him.

It does continue the trend, granted, but that doesn't mean that in and of itself, the romance was badly written at all. In fact, it's one the best s/s romances in a novel that I have read. Period. So in that regard, he didn't epically **** it up.

I honestly don't know which contender my first PC would support.
It depends on how they act in DAI.

It depends on what Bioware write them. From what I know they don't seem the Alistair kind of people that would let a contender of the throne live.
I guess that they can be convinced to spare the other. We'll see.

It is NOT. It's a horrible and unhealthy sham. It deserves no regard in any universe.

I think we're on the same page, hope wise.  I'm right there with you.  :/
