I doubt it. My impression is that Gaspard sees Ferelden as critical to Orlesian security. With the conquest of Ferelden, Orlais would dominate the Western Sea, have access to the breadbasket of the Bannorn, and never have to worry about a war on two fronts should enemies to the east start getting ambitious.
Yet the last time they were in control of Ferelden through conquest, Nevarra took a huge chunk of Orlais away...
Imshael is a very interesting concept. It insists it's not a demon, but a "choice spirit" and doesn't act like a typical demon. Yet it's as violent and desires posession much like any demon does.
I hope Ser Michel doesn't get himself killed questing after it. He ended up being my favorite character of the book.
Perhaps Imshael goes by the Dalish view of spirits, rather than the Andrastian perception of Spirits and Demons.

I am chilling as much as I'm physically able to, for the sole fact that this might not be over yet and there remains hope of fixing it in the actual game.
Pretty sure Imshael doesn't consider himself a demon since its one of the more powerful spirits. Demon seems derogatory to him.

Incompetence all around back then. Gaspard no doubt believes he can do it better. He'd certainly be hard pressed to do worse. And it's unlikely he would send a worthless exile from court to be governor of the newly conquered territory. He'd probably send his best and brightest.

Meh, I wouldn't say it's necessarily the Dalish classification that he goes by, but more or less, I agree.
“There are all kinds of spirits, boy. Spirits of love, and honor, and valor, and justice…” He waved a hand absently, turning to pace along the edge of the circle. “And yes, also rage, and hunger, and pride. We all carry some connection to this world to bring us through the Veil.”

lol did you think the romance would have a happy ending?
Celene is the empress of Orlais. Briala is an elf. Did you expect Celene to crown Briala or something?
The way it was handled was perfect. They loved each other but they ultimately had divergent goals. If you thought it could have gone any way differently you're sadly naive.
You mean something that happens to relationships regardless of orientation
Ares, let's just let it go, man.

Xil... remember that what you're hearing here is our individual interpretations of this couple. I'm not asking you to like it, nor approve nor for that matter even read it if you don't want to.
But don't judge mr Weekes' writing based on us.

Best to focus on the juicy new lore we got.

I know! Weekes did an excellent job in that regard. So many new mysteries and pieces of lore!

I really hope that Felassen isn't really dead for whatever reason. I love his viewpoint.

I haven't really focused on him much in my discussions of the novel thus far, but I must admit I'm interested in the potential for a spirit/demon who is a complete character rather than a few smarmy/threatening lines followed by a bag of hp. I would not be disappointed if we encountered him multiple times throughout the game, even possibly as shifting between ally or antagonist depending on the situation, before finding a permanent solution to him nearer the end game.

Wouldn't be the first Bioware character randomly pop up again, even after death.

Please reread previous posts, as they likely hold the seeds of reasoning why I don't really care about in-universe reasons except inasmuch as they drive home the betrayal aspect.

Surprising though it may be, I don't actually enjoy being this angry and I don't wish to enhance it beyond the level it's already at. I also don't give a **** about his prose; I care only about the plot points in this case.

Indeed. And I wonder how they'd incorporate his dominion of choices in dialogues with him. I'm excited.
So mad
Different strokes for different folks, you know. What pleases some people is going to displease others. People have different feelings about Briala and Celene, as the quite interesting exchange between TK514 and Sir JK reads. Xil feels strongly about the depiction of this same sex relationship, for reasons she's articulated time and again, and she's entitled to her opinion.

The story isn't going to please anyone, so it shouldn't be a surprise that some wouldn't like it (for one reason or another). I wasn't too happy with the depiction of Clan Virehn myself, as they felt too one-note in their characterization.
And a lot of foreshadowing for DAI. Your post in the other TME thread is very interesting.
Ummm, which one? I've lost track of all the crap I have been posting lol

I did get that impression.
If it really is one of the Forbidden Ones, Imshael may be part of a whole new classification of Fade spirit. A proverbial "bigger fish" from teh deep Fade.

I apologize, Xil. It was not my intention to further upset you or stoke your anger on the issue with the discussion.
