Or he could have thrown in with Briala.

I don't think so. Her goals are exclusively elf centric, he wouldn't really have had a place in it. Plus despite what happened, he never would have brought himself to actively work against Celene. That's something that, as a Chevalier, even Gaspard recognized.

In the epilogue they talk about how he can never go back to Celene and he says "And I won't insult you by asking you to serve me."

The fact that he considered being a chevalier at all worthwhile with what he had to do to get there is a major part of the problem.

Well it's better than his past life

It's almost as if Michel is his own character with his own goals and desires.  Weird.

And Briala was a bard right?

Yes.

Disagree.

If you do it right it can be corrected and needs to be. We are talking about some basic human rights that should never be taken away.

Are you suggesting that whatever we do, elf and humans will never get along?

Now, for the politically correct answer:

Maybe humans and elves can get along but it won't happen by the actions of one or more elves during a single generation nor will it happen by using magical artifacts to prolongue civil wars.

For him personally, perhaps.

imo Michel was the most noble Chevalier I've ever seen/heard of.

Something that wouldn't exactly be difficult to achieve.

Yes. They do not include atoning for his earlier atrocities, and they are very likely at cross-purposes with my own.

And Briala was a bard right?

I never said she was perfect.

Starving urchin doesn't have a lot of merits.

Briala's goal is to use the conflict between Celene and Gaspard to emancipate her people, but that doesn't necessitate the dissolution of the human armies, or the crippling of the empire to a point where a Nevarran incursion would lead to an inevitable victory.

Then how do you imagine you'd be able to prevent the Orlesians from taking the Dales back if you don't think the Orlesian Empire will be too crippled to resist a Nevarran invasion? A new elven state will always be threatened by some more powerful human state or other.

He's the most noble character we've been introduced to as well, of course this is just my opinion, but... wait you haven't even read the book... why am I arguing with you on his integrity. The prime examples that prove it have been completely missed for you.

The most noble in the series, or in this book?

Also, please feel free to list said actions.

Exactly the human powers need to allow it which won't happen as long as the elves use violence to attempt to achieve it.

Yes.

Well, even in the same racial groups dissensions happen, total peace is utopic, conflicts are parts of live. Celene and Gaspard are a good exemple of that, human vs human.(By the way, they could have stoped this silly war whenever they wanted to). Otherwise I don't see why CE and human couldn't "get along" or at least improve their actual situation who is clearly bad.

We have encountered a grand total of...two chevaliers. Let's wait a bit before condemning them all as some devious group in need of reform.

Definitely in his book, very possibly in the series.

Briala is owed a favor from Michel, for keeping his true bloodline a secret, once she is arrested she notices he tenses up. As she says;

"[he was worried] because he would actually have held himself to his promise. He was a more honorable noble than most actual nobles."

He would've kept his word and probably taken on the Chevaliers and Celene's word in order to honor his deal with Briala.

It's not exactly difficult to do so.

That's why I changed my post, as Xil already pointed out?

Indeed. After reading the book, I'm finally getting why Loghain hates Orlais so much.
